Any horseback riders
Gina P:
Do we have any horseback riders in our midst? I have a 24yr old Quarter horse Draft mix that I trail ride hundreds of miles a year. We do trail competitions, go on vacation together, camping, and most weekends a day ride. He has been on the beaches of New Jersey, mountains of Virginia, Pennsylvania hills, and upper New York state. We compete in trail obstacle courses and usually place in the top 3. The old boy crosses rivers, runs up hills and is the most gentle animal to kids and dogs. Here is a picture of my friend Dundee.

Dear Gigi:
Thank you for sharing your love for horses and the
photo of your friend Dundee ...
I grew up on a ranch in Eastern Montana and have
been around horses and cattle all my life.
Over the years I have owned several horses.
Here is a picture of my friend, Nutmeg ....
... ~15 hands, and as big as I wish to regularly ride.
HUGS,
Danielle
Gina P:
Nutmeg is very beautiful. How do they handle those cold winters in Alaska?
Dundee is 15 2 hands. I always felt a nice fit, size wise. He has a nice extended trot but his canter/jog is a but rough probably the draft. He seams a bit uncoordinated at that speed but I love him anyway.
Thanks for sharing.

Sort of, but not anymore.
My wife grew up with Arabians out in Tucson, and she brought her horse with us back to Texas when we moved. Interestingly enough, growing up in Texas, I had never been into horses.
The place we boarded her horse (Pasha) had a really big arena and they were really big into ranch rodeo events. I started taking lessons with the owner, and I loved it. Over time, I got to be "OK" at both team penning and ranch sorting. It was a lot of fun.
Eventually, I started getting into cutting, which was an ABSOLUTE BLAST! I used to ride a horse named "Spud" (after Spud Webb, because he was small and REALLY athletic), and I just let him work. Dang. It brings a smile to my face even now. I felt like I was just along for the ride, and what a ride it was!
Eventually, Pasha died, and we stopped going out there. I really miss it.

Dear Sara:
Thanks for your reply comment....
How long has it been since Pasha and Spud died?
When have you last ridden? It sounds like that you were
involved in more than just trail riding.... cutting, team penning, etc
take some practice, and are a lot of fun. I imagine that you
miss those activities.
Do you see yourself getting a horse again? Perhaps a
good "together" activity to start up again with your wife?
Do you have room at your home property to board a horse?
It is always nice to have your horse on your property if that
is available.
Thanks again for sharing.
HUGS,
Danielle
