Considering Revision Surgery
EllenW:
When I had by GCS, for many reasons I decided to go with minimum depth. A number of those reasons related to dilation and how my late wife felt about me dilating several times a day. It has been two years since she died, and I am now thinking about having a revision surgery using the Peritoneal Pull Through method.
I would appreciate any suggestions as to surgeons and any concerns about having the surgery now that I am 69. FYI, a sigmoid revision is not possible as I lost my sigmoid to colon cancer 17 years ago.
Thanks everyone
Ellen

The go to surgeon for PPV would be Dr Ting in NYU. I know a few people who have gone there. He works with Dr Blue-Bond Langer. I have heard that Marci Bowers did some work with Dr Ting.

Hi Ellen,
Wow. I feel like I want to ask loads and write lots but I am just a newbie, feeling my way with this.
Can I ask why you want to go for depth now? I can speculate on several reasons but I'm wondering which is true for you. I think this is the kind of forum where people can express themselves honestly so if, for instance, you feel that depth is more real or that peritoneal pull through is more real, I'd be interested to know.
I wish you all the very best with this.
xx

I wouldn't say any version of GCS is more 'real' than another. Whether someone chooses minimal depth or full depth, penile inversion, peritoneal pull through, sigmoid colon or some other technique. Our genitals are only a small part of who we are, but they can be a major part of the dysphoria we experience. Some of us are in a situation where we need some type of intervention to make us feel complete, but due to other circumstances we can't always make the desired changes. The decisions we make are personal and unique. What is 'right' for one person may be completely different from what is 'right' for someone else. The individual involved is the only person who can decide what they need to feel 'real' or 'complete', and no one has the right to question someone else's personal decision.
In my case, I decided to go 'full depth'. I know a few women who opted for minimal depth. There are also some women who are unable to have any surgeries. No matter what our genital configuration is, we are women -- no exceptions, categories, or qualifications required. The same goes for transgender men -- regardless of their genital configuration, they are men.
Love always -- Jessica Rose

Hi Jessica, I agree. But I wanted to hear what Ellen thinks as to whether that's her reason. If it is, I respect her for it it even though for now I think I'm heading for a MDV.
But I'm also mulling this so all perspectives are interesting and helpful to me. I'm genuinely wondering, see here:

I guess I'm just really and genuinely interested why someone who is 69 wants to go from her MDV to peritoneal pull through. Ellen did mention about her partner being a big reason why she didn't go for full depth before.
