Why would anyone want to sign in here under “hidden” mode?

Other than to try it out, to see if it works, I do not see why a member would want to do this.
Maybe for staff functions perhaps?  Maybe some here get a lot of personal messages and simply want to be in stealth mode because of that?  Maybe for a very quick login and a quick exit; but, you can do that regardless.

I suppose there are reasons other than out of curiosity.  No harm for sure doing it.  Any ideas on this?
I guess I am missing seeing something here.  No biggie of a question, I know.

Dear Chrissy:
The Forums software is structured for that VERY function which
allows members to not be seen when they are logged in.

It is a personal PRIVACY choice that each member can make for their
own personal privacy reasons.
It is each member's business in how they wish to be seen  or
to not be seen here on the Forums.

I gather that privacy might be important to some but it is not something that is needed for me.
As a member one has some privileges a guest does not, otherwise it would just as fine visiting as a guest I suppose if one wanted privacy.

But this feature is there to be used as desired or needed.

It's one of the Simple Machines features. People are free to use it, or not, at their own discretion.

I feel that it is better for people to see that the site is under supervision, so I usually won't go into hidden mode. But Staff members are free to use the feature if they choose to.

Bonus information: Staff can see who's online even in hidden mode. Their names just come up in italics on the list.  ;)

I have very bad social anxiety.  I am constantly feeling judged.

Based on previous forum experiences, I feel that if people know that I am on they might expect a reply or for me to see their posts.  I feel obligated to respond.  Sometimes I want to think and digest a topic and it might be one or two days later before I respond.

Sometimes I just want to observe.  It varies, but I like the security of others not knowing I am online or not...till I decide to post.

For this reason I like Forums waaaay more than discord where people can see me typing even if I haven't submitted anything.  It causes me severe performance anxiety and takes away my ability to decide not to engage.

So I am going to stay hidden as much as possible  ;)

Nothing personal.  Just a personality quirk of mine.
