Eyes swelling closed after FFS?

(1/2) > >>

Rayna:
A friend had FFS some time ago, which included forehead reconstruction, orbital rim shaving, rhinoplasty and jaw reshaping. Her eyes swelled shut for a couple of days following the surgery such that she was effectively blind.

Has anyone else had, or heard of, a similar situation? I plan on having similar FFS procedures, but am not planning to have a companion who could feed me, get me to the bathroom, etc. if I couldn't see.

Just wanting to prepare myself...thanks!

Allie Jayne:
While I don't think it happens to everyone, it can happen. I have seen people who had Blepharoplasty who couldn't close their eyes for a few days after surgery, and had to have ointment on their eyes to keep them from drying out, effectively blinding them. Talk to your surgeon about these possibilities and try to find someone who can be with you for a time after surgery.

Something which isn't often mentioned is the mental effects of FFS, and many people get depressed soon after the op. Another reason to have someone to support you.

Hugs,

Allie

FFS can mean being flayed, scalped, and chiseled. So, yeah, swelling is going to happen. Follow Allie's advice.

The was the case for me... I was scheduled to go on "guest status" a day or two after FFS with Dr. O. (do people still know who de is?) back in 1999 - which meant moving to an unused floor in the hospital that was used for "guests" (there was no medical staff/service)...

Because I could not see, it terrified me to have to essentially be on my own want to stay under medical supervision ... Dr O.  was having none of it and just pulled my eye lids open despite the swelling!

I did not get depressed...

But FFS was much more painful/uncomfortable than the SRS with concurrent BA, which I had the year before!

I know some people for whom that pain was a lot harder to get through thant it was for me, and that could be a factor.
