Electrolysis and swelling

(1/2) > >>

tanya_sf:
So I went to my first electrolysis treatment on Friday and had my upper lip worked on for an hour. I was expecting it to be pretty painful based on everything I had read but fortunately i didn’t think it was that bad. I had some redness that went away within pretty quick but I was totally not expecting the amount of swelling that I experienced . I’ve been re-reading other peoples experiences and I am not sure how I overlooked and missed that after effect.  Aside from taking ibuprofen, using cortisone cream and icing are there any other ways to reduce or avoid this? I read some have used heat and cold but that seems counterintuitive and I’m a little nervous about trying that. I also know prednisone would probably work best but im not sure I would want to risk the side effects. I’m guessing I just need to deal with the swelling but hope it gets better.

My electrologist recommended cold 'Preparation-H' wipes. I don't know if it was the cold or the medication, but it seemed to help. I have also noticed that my skin's reaction to electrolysis improved after each session, similar to building up an immunity. The first few sessions covering a specific area are much more intense than subsequent sessions. My first facial sessions were so painful that they caused tears, eventually the experience became so mundane that I would fall asleep during treatment. It does get better.

Love always -- Jessica Rose

Welcome Aboard Tanya!

One approach is to have them do different areas in the same session so it is a little swelling everywhere versus, a lot of swelling in one part of your face… I opted for 3 day 2 tech marathon sessions down in Phoenix and just got used to taking the flight home looking like Richard Nixon with the mumps! 😅
