Nails curling down

Each time I grow out my fingernails the nails on my index and middle fingers have a tendency to curl down, i.e. they seem to follow the shape of my fingertips rather than grow out in a somewhat straight fashion. I know that all fingernails tend to curl down a little bit when left to grow out long enough, but mine do it to the extreme, but only on those mentioned fingers.

Does anyone have any idea what causes that and, more importantly, how to stop it?
