Four years ago today I had GCS

It seems like a lifetime ago, but it has only been four years since my first major surgery...

I dilate every other day now, sometimes I'll skip two days in a row and I don't notice much of a difference. I can see a few faint scars, if my pubic hair were a bit thicker I doubt I would even notice them. I no longer have any 'phantom' pains, and everything looks and works the way it's supposed to. I don't miss my old equipment, but Susan has a different opinion! I am definitely much happier now, which is why reminders about my past are so painful. For me, this was the right decision, and I have no regrets.

Love always -- Jessica Rose

@Jessica_Rose
Dear Jessica:
Thank you for sharing and posting....

For you, in all of the personally important ways... it was indeed a "...lifetime ago"

I have always felt that I have had a 2nd chance at life... a different life for certain!!!
It is hard for me to imagine not transitioning when I did.

Again, thank you for sharing your personal story.
HUGS,
Danielle

Congratulations on 4 years in your rightful body Jessica! Statistically it is about the best decision many of us make with a very low regret rate, and it can make such a difference in our lives! Give Susan a big hug as GRS is the hurdle hardest for partners to clear, so you are both so lucky!

Hugs,

Allie

Hey Jessica,
Congratulations on your fourth anniversary!
I can certainly relate to much of what you have said in your post.
So glad to hear that you are much happier now and may I say that it shows in your radiant smile!
Dilations every other day? I thought I was a keener at twice a week ;)
Whenever I feel down I do try to remember that transition gave me a second lease on life and a new name on that lease.
Rejoice and celebrate your milestone!

Jessica_Rose:
Thanks everyone! As others have mentioned, for many of us this does provide a second chance. About eight months after becoming Jessica, I was able to spend a weekend with one of our daughters. She had never met Jessica. We spent the weekend doing a little shopping and hiking around Devils Lake in Wisconsin. When it was time for me to leave, my daughter told me something I will never forget. She said at first she was concerned about my visit and was full of doubt, but now it was like meeting a completely different person.

I'm still evolving, still learning, but I will never return to that dark place I escaped a lifetime ago. Yes, some of the surgical procedures were quite uncomfortable, but the memories of the pain have faded. All that remains is the joy of simply being me.

Love always -- Jessica Rose
