For SRS is it better to stay at hospital ward or hotel for recovery?

Hello

I am doing my surgery in Bangkok with Dr Chettawut. Is it better to stay in a room at the WIH special care ward for recovery or to stay at the Bangkok Rama Hotel?
Thanks

If you have a complication of any type, the hospital is the only place to be.  Even for those who have a completely normal surgery experience a few days immediately after the surgery is preferable.

For my surgery, I was in the hospital for two full days, then I was released to my hotel room with daily visits from my surgeon for a few more days.

A friend of mine who recently underwent her surgery was in the hospital for 5 days, then to the hotel room. She had to return to the hospital for weekly checkups for a few more weeks.

My surgery was a long time ago (1998) so i don't recall exactly  how long afterwards i was in the hospital but it was at LEAST a week if not longer. That said although I don't recall if I "officially" in the hospital all that time even though i was in the same room... I seem to vaguely recall that Meltzer may have had a special arrangement with the hospital for his patients... I was at a small local hospital that no longer exists.

I do remember being there along enough to be bale to take walks through the Reed College Campus (Where Steve Jobs was a "drop-in"), and a rhododendron garden which was in the opposite direction.

I did not have complications during that time... but if I had had to go to a hotel just after a couple of days I would have been nervous!

Like in Thailand, Bluebond at NYU-Langone makes you stay around New York for two weeks after you get discharged from the hospital...I would have hated staying in the hospital for even one more day than necessary - I was in the hospital for five nights, which is the standard NYU regimin. I really enjoyed getting discharged to an Airbnb so I could cook my own meals and didn't have to deal with the hospital annoyances.

Two nights seems aggressive in terms of moving to a hotel room...4-5 nights seems more reasonable. I especially think that once the catheter is out and you're peeing and dilating on your own, it's going to be so much more comfortable having your own space, whether hotel or Airbnb. But I don't think that I would want to leave the hospital until the catheter is out and I could pee.

But Thailand could be different...can't comment on what the appropriate timing is over there.
