Allie’s Blog III - Opening Day!

Seemed appropriate to start Part III of my blog today… since it’s the beginning of a whole new phase of things —
Day #1 of HRT!
(I will attempt to go back and add in links to part #1 and part #2… and some point I’ll actually know how to do this stuff here, honest… 🤦♀️)
So… here’s my initial thoughts.
First, bottom line, I’m really very happy to have reached this point… which is both an end to a quest and the start of another one at the same time. And because of that, I guess it’s my sports-brain, my instinct is still not to celebrate when there’s still miles to go before I sleep, you know?
I would describe my demeanor all day as just… calm. Occasionally I catch myself thinking “aren’t I supposed to be more excited? Aren’t people supposed to be excited? What’s wrong with me?” - and then I realized, that I’m not supposed to be anything other than me. And being me just fine. And the fact that I’m literally going about my day and this is just another part of my day, speaks just as much about how right this is for me as jumping up and down and crying would for someone else.
I do, also, know that I’m holding back being too happy because of my neurologist’s 70-20-10 formula, and not sure where I fall. For those unfamiliar, because of my chronic daily cluster/migraines my endo wanted my primary neuro to weigh in… and he wasn’t a fan. He said the research shows that for women suffering migraines, when hormone therapy is introduced, 70% see an increase in migraine (pain/frequency), 20% see no change, and 10% see a reduction.
My wife, working from home today, was on a call when I stuck the little sticker to my backside, but when I was telling her about it, I just said “here’s to the 30%”… because that’s what I’m hoping to be in. Thing is, I have no way of knowing when I’ll know if I’m in the clear.. So it’s going to be some waiting, and trying to not get too ahead of myself for a little while.
As for my wife, I thought today would be tough for her… and maybe (probably) it is, but outwardly she hasn’t said anything. We’re just having a typical day so far… and everything seems to be going fine. I didn’t expect her to be effusive in her joy that this was starting, I’m just glad she seems at peace with it so far.
Anyway… it is special to me to do this on opening day 2023 of the Major League Baseball season. I’ll easily always remember when I did this. I’ll admit it’s kind of a cheat, but it’s a good cheat.
Kind of like when when we hosted the #1 women’s basketball team for a home game one year and set a women’s attendance record, and — since I was the one who made up the attendance figure (sorry to break this to you - all attendance figures are made up) I made it my phone extension. No one noticed, but for YEARS people were always so darn impressed how I quickly knew the EXACT women’s basketball attendance record. 😂. Sometimes I’d push it and hand them my business card and tell them to call me if they wanted to talk more about it… but no one ever called me on it.

P.S. All attendance. Super Bowls, etc… I mean, sometimes they are gross exaggerations, sometimes they are legitimate attempts to count tickets sold, but the end of the day, someone says “the house is around here” and someone else says “let’s go with this.”
