I'm a Son!!!!

(1/3) > >>

Arch:
My father and I haven't seen each other since I was in my early twenties; we have been corresponding by snail mail. He stopped writing actual letters several years ago, so I have felt rejected for quite some time. In the letters I have, he cannot bring himself to use my legal name, nor has he ever called me his son. Not long ago, when my mother died, my father was confused and was telling my brother that I had died. That kinda hurt, but I was hoping that my father, in his grief, was thinking of the old me.

I talked to my brother today; he has been moving my father into an assisted living apartment and tidying up his affairs. According to my brother, my dad's USAA account has me as a relative under my legal name. My relationship is listed as "son."

I'll admit that I wanted to hear it from my dad, even if only in a letter. But this is nearly as good. Even if I never hear from my father again, I'll know that he called me his son at least once to someone. You'd think that at my age I wouldn't care, but I do. I really do.

Oldandcreaky:
Atta son, Arch, atta son!

Kouji:
Congrats, man. It's a good feeling to be acknowledged.
My dad and I also didn't get along for a while but I was surprised at his acceptance. Sends me cards with it written on now. If you can try to get in touch with him more. Life is too short.

I'm afraid that my hands are tied; my father has been very clear about not wanting to see me. I send letters, but he never writes back anymore. He doesn't have much time left, so I'm hoping that he'll reach out now that my mother is gone.
