Reasons women need testosterone.
CosmicJoke:
Hi everyone. I made this thread mostly because I am curious of some of the reasons women need testosterone. My current level is only 12 ng/dl. Apparently the female range is 20-80 ng/dl. I am not currently sexually active so that's what I told my PA when she asks this question.
So besides libido what are some of the reasons women need testosterone?

Why Testosterone is Crucial to the Proper Function of a Woman’s Body
Testosterone is categorized as an androgen. Androgens tend to be thought of as male hormones, but the female body naturally produces androgens too. A woman’s body produces testosterone in the ovaries and adrenal glands. Testosterone levels affect:
sex drive
fertility
red blood cell production
muscle mass and fat distribution
mood regulation
maintenance and growth of bones
women’s sexual health
vaginal health
cardiovascular health
Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder and Low Testosterone in Women
Low levels of testosterone can lead to hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSSD).This widespread women’s sexual health problem occurs in as many as 8% to 19% of women. The effects of HSDD vary and include:
fewer (if any) sexual fantasies
lack of interest in sexual activity
personal distress
frustration
sadness
decreased self-confidence
low self-worth
depression
fatigue

Good info.

A lot of people brag about their "zero" or undetectable T levels, but that's really not a healthy place to be.

I concur.. I make zero hormone naturally.. and it is a life threatening condition.. I take estradiol and testosterone on prescription from my endo.. Devlyn has already listed the reasons why./
