Thanks for that! Actually my mum rang me to tell me about it as she wants to know as much about it as possible. She also asked me what a transsexual is. I think that's positive!
For those who watched it, what did you think?
Considering it is a three part series, I think too much emphasis was put on the surgery and the final stages of transition and not much at all on dysphoria and what it feels like. I thought this was a missed opportunity as it would be good for the general population to know the hell that is dysphoria and understand why we would want to change our bodies to fit with our internal identities. BUT I am also aware that the surgery will get more ratings which is what making TV programmes is all about I guess.
I enjoyed it. Few cringeworthy moments, but good non the less. I will be watching next week.
It must have affected me as this morning driving to work, I imagined myself in the place of the lady receiving SRS and having the 'pack' removed. She was in terrible pain, crying & swearing but thanked the surgeon. I cried this morning when I thought of me in her place.
Just reading the description of it on the ITV website made me cringe. Had the usual misconceptions that we were born one gender and we decide to become something else. Is it so hard to make a trans documentary which doesn't always focus on surgery and hormones.
And of course they never mention how long it takes to get medical help. It's shameful how bad the waiting times are.
Yes it's a good thing that the recent spate of documentaries shows that this is something we need to do and not a choice; but it still leads people to believe we were born one gender and become enough; that we're all stereotypically binary and that we all medically transition.

There is a lot of work to do to educate the masses! It's a very difficult thing as most cis-folk are not interested unless it directly affects their lives. Apart from the bigots who just seem to hate everything.
They did imply more than once that it was a choice to become the opposite gender rather than saying that the person was always that gender but their bodies developed in the wrong direction and transition is repairing that. Little things like that (from the TV company's point of view) make such a difference. Although having said that, it was implied once I think but not directly stated.
I'm not sure if having lots of documantaries and publicity is an overall good or bad thing. In one way it's good as it gets the concept of being trans into the public's mind but then you get the idiots saying people are doing it because it's fashionable or a cool thing to do these days. Human stupidity knows no bounds...

Very true. Many documentaries on TV if not all favour being sensationalist rather than accurate. It's both a good and a bad thing you can get more accurate knowledge wither on the Internet or YouTube than on tv
I watched it, wasnt sure if i would or not. Thought things may hit to close to home but im glad i did.
The ftm story was amazing. He looked like he was getting happy with his life. The ex sas girl looked stunnig at the end but was a shame about the marrage. The best omg moment for me was the larger lady having her make up done. Wow sums it up. Before you could clearly make out her origins but after even though it was clear there was way to much makeup and didnt look nateral those origins were gone.
Now i could handle the balls slapped onto the table but did they realy have to show that one shot during the mtf grs. If you watched it im sure you know the shot i mean

To spread awareness, anything is good but i wouldnt want to think anyone may get outed before they are ready by gossip about the show in the workplace for instance

The FtM story was incredible, that beaming smile on his face when he could not believe how good his chest looked. Really emotional. I'll remember that smile for a LONG time.
I felt really sorry for the ex-sas girl and her wife but these things do happen. It's harsh when you have been emotionally involved with a facade of a person or your own distorted image of who a person is only to be hit by reality. I really do feel for them and yes she did look lovely at the end.
The larger lady was a transformation but the amount of makeup was a bit overboard. Still, just shows what can be achieved by makeup.
ha ha. Yes I know the shot you mean. That was a bit gruesome. The testicles just looked like a vet's surgery programme which I am used to but the other bit! Eeeeep! I guess that will spark off more dreams where my penis has become detached and I'm trying to fix it back on unsuccessfully. Might mention that to my therapist when I eventually get my appointment! lol.
the bits on the table didn't bother me but the packing removal, OUCH. Then lady that worked for rail co was very good.
Don't forget the final episode is on tonight!! I'll be watching it. ;D

Right at the end when the stats were up ive got to ammit i started crying. I said its ok to be me about 20 times to myself. The last one was a bit emotanal for me

Awww sweetheart. **HUUUUGGGG** It's been a very emotional series. I must admit I was trying to hold back the tears more than once with my wife scowling at me. :(
Cis-people just don't seem to understand what an emotional journey this is. I think we need more programmes like this but also focussing more on the dysphoria and what being trans actually means and what it feels like rather than concentrating on surgery.
I watched the three episodes.
Sadly no coverage of emotional/dysphoric side but mainly the surgical side. However at least it covered ops other than GCS. Both clients clearly happy with their respective FFS and BA.
I was also glad it advised to a small degree on how to dress and make up (to hide the aspects of our bodies which may give us away).
Overall an average documentary but good that it highlights Transgenderism as an issue today. At least it is becoming more in the public domain.
