Title: @mentions
Post by: Faith on September 12, 2018, 03:58:00 PM
@mentions don't work for me, no auto-complete, nothing. Rather annoying when you really want to point at someone.
I've tried variations of browsers, plugins, safe-starts .. no go. So, I decided to start doing it manually.

For those with a similar problem there is a work-around. @mention is simply a board code similar to those quick inserts above the message box.

Look at a users profile link, it has a number in it, copy the number place it in the tags, like so:
[member=####]NAME[/member]
Mine looks like this:
[member=56463]Faith[/member]
the result is this:
@Faith

sorry if this is shared elsewhere, I've seen the question come up regularly.

@Faith:
Dear Faith:  The biggest issues for many with "mentions" not working are members that use Tapatalk.  I do not use Tapatalk for that reason.
Regarding browsers, usually Firefox and IE never fails.

Also when attempting to use a mention, start typing the member name directly(no space)  after the asterisk.  Well before you finish typing the member name you should see a Pop-Up with the a variety of member name choices, instead of completing typing the member name click on the correct member name in the Blue Pop-Up.

I hope that this helps and it works for you.
Hugs,
Danielle

@Alaskan Danielle
nope, doesn't work. 30+ year service tech and network administrator here (aren't we all? it seems like it .. haha). If there was a way to make it work in my browsers I would have found it.  I blame Windows. No two computers can ever have the same thing work under the same conditions.

I'll stick to my text document and copy/paste it in

@Faith
Dear Faith:
I am so very sorry that none of my suggestions solved your problem with the mentions.   If your "work around" does what is needed you can obviously use it for now, until someone else can provide the necessary correct suggestions.

Who, knows, I may have a dream tonight about how to solve the issue that you are having.
Again, so very sorry I couldn't come up with right answers for you.
Hugs,
Danielle

@Alaskan Danielle
Nothing to be sorry about. I'd already tried everything except erasing my computer. I suspect it's a browser javascript issue. After a certain point, it's not worth troubleshooting. I posted a workaround for people that also gave up trying to make it work.

@JudiBlueEyes

I am not sure how it shows up in safari, I'd have to fire up a mac. In windows, I hover over their profile name/link and it shows up in the bottom status bar of the browser or pops up next to the mouse, depending on the browser.

You can also right-click on the name/link and copy the URL/Link address (sorry, I don't know what the pop-up in safari calls it) .. paste it in your text editor and the number is at the end.  I have one text doc that I have member numbers saved in so I son't have to look it up, just copy/paste

at worst, open their profile page in a new tab. The number will show up in the address bar.

hope that helps
Faith

Strange. While it doesn't work in the Tapatalk interface, if I tell it to show the web view it works fine. Also no problem in Safari on either the Mac or iOS devices.
