As far as I know, the new one they are raving about is alli, but there are nasty side effects that I won't go into detail here.

Check out this site (below) that sums them up. If you are going to spend money on this stuff, research it before you spend your money.

This talks about alli and the top 20 diet pills.

It appears that scientists have discover the key to manipulating fat (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/07/070702084321.htm). This fascinating research could be the breakthrough that ends obesity.

Hey Wishy,
I'm just speaking my mind here, but don't do diet pills. They don't usually work, can have some pretty serious side effects and probably have a tendency to create dependency. What do you need diet pills for? I know that sometimes people have health issues like thyroid and stuff, so I want to be sure that isn't you or anything, but I don't think diet pills will help with that either.

If you are trying to lose weight and don't have a health issue causing it, look to lower caloric intake and increased cardio, depending on what you are trying to do. Maybe weight lifting to convert fat to muscle? In my case, I was trying to lose muscle and fat so I did an ultra low cal diet and a ton of cardio.

But not diet pills Wishy, I would be really worried about you if you went down that path. I asked some questions about dieting and weight loss and Keira knows so much about it, her advice really helped me out. I don't know the link to the advice, but it's in health I think.

Just worried about you :) Meghan

I have to admit, there was one brand in the link Lori posted that also increases testosterone levels.... But i'm in the UK and will have to find a similar product here and i think there is one that i've seen advertised for men.

I dont really want to loose weight and i'm not obese. But i have these fatty bits around my wrists and on y face that i really want rid. And i mean, i REALLY want rid!! And diet pills just came as a passing thought and i wondered if they work, will it rid me off the 'puppy fat' that i've got?

I presume it's worth a try, short of plastic surgery.

Interesting you should bring this up, Wishy.
My pcp just prescribed diet pills for me a few weeks ago, because I'm at high risk for heart disease, and a bunch of other cardiovascular stuff. They work well enough, I lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks.
I don't like the side effects though. All of sudden, I can't even finish a meal, have no appetite, and my libido's slipping. I used to require a minimum of 2 orgasms a day, now it's like 1 every other day. ::)
However, I continue to take them because I do care for my health.

These definitely work, but they're prescription meaning you have to be overweight to get them.
I wouldn't recommend messing around with any diet pills at your weight (from what I recall you're only 7 stone or so). Wait until you get on T, it'll redistribute your body fat. Although that 'puppy look' does sound adorable!

The thing is i cant wait to get on the T. It's years and years ahead of me and to me that is just too long to wait and quite simply put, I dont want to.

If there are other means of getting the effects of T before i can get on it, then by any and all means possible i will try.

My experience is that diet pills only work for a few months. After 3 months or so the side effects are more noticeable than the appetite suppression. I am one of those people who took the pen phen combination (phentermine and fenfluorimine)  a few years ago. I loved it and I had no bad side effects. I would take it again if I could get it. Since then I have tried phentermine and zoloft a couple of times. After a few months I found myself rubbing my tongue across the inside of my front teeth until it was raw. I had to stop. Also, the appetite suppression effects had diminished.

About a year ago, I started to experience uncontrollable weight gain due to abnormalities in thyroid function.  My appetite was normal but even though I watched very carefully what I ate, my weight kept on increasing.

Therefore, I sought the help of a dietician (M.D.) who basically transformed the way I ate.  She also prescribed Adipex, a pescription appetite suppressant that:

Quoteworks by stimulating a brain area called hypothalamus gland, which controls functions like body temperature, amount of sleep and appetite. It affects certain neurotransmitters also. These neurotransmitters are responsible for the communication between the brain cells. Adipex reduces the level of serotonin in the brain and gives a feeling of satiety to the person. This prevents him from eating again and again unnecessarily, which causes weight loss.

The thing with Adipex is that once you take it, you are not hungry for 24 hours; if you take your next dosage, you are "still" not hungry and can live without eating for days.  Of course, this is not what people should be doing.  People are supposed to be eating small portions of food, excercising on a regular basis, and adding more fiber and vegetables to their diet.  Additionally, Adipex should not be taken without doctor's supervision as it has been known to cause strokes and heart failure.

Some diet pills do work, but your health needs to be monitored by your doctor while on potent nervous system suppressant drugs like Adipex.

i'll bet this ssri is a schedule II -- meaning that it is highly regulated.

but i could be wrong, and right now i'm too lazy to go look it up  :D
I take medication for my ADD, which helps to suppress my appetite.  It is a schedule II drug as well, so it wasn't easy to get.  I had to get a psychological evaluation first to ensure I wasn't just "making my ADD up".  By the way, for the edification of those who aren't familiar with the "schedules" and may be wondering, the schedule I drugs are highly addictive substances that are never prescribed by doctors and are usually illegal to obtain.  Schedule II drugs are the most addictive prescribed drugs.

I think that I am going to purchase Myoffeine and see what sort of results I will get. However, I am a bit spectical on whether or not it will work, I am only looking for the weight loss to be honest but if its a Testosterone Booster and it works then thats great! The only reason that I am not getting the womans one is because it apparently enhancement the breasts and I honestly dont want them lumps any bigger!

I'm sorry you had to go through that.  I seem to be unable to get addicted to anything for some reason.  I'll have my obsessions with stuff that may last from a week to a year, but they go away.  For instance, in my bartending interest phase, I was mixing drinks every night because 1. it gave me practice  2. I liked how the drinks tasted  3. It was fun to get tipsy--I tried to avoid going beyond that though.  4. I was gaining weight and a lot of that went to my chest, which I liked.

However, after a couple of months, I grew tired of that and pretty much just stopped drinking altogether, just because I didn't feel like drinking.  That's about the closest I've ever come to getting addicted.  Also, I was hooked on coffee for a while, but I didn't like being dependent on it, so I weened myself off it, while catching up on sleep, and only have a cup like once every month or so.  It's weird, but I think either ADD or OCD actually prevented me from being addicted.  Since I need the meds to function (which have a similar effect to coffee), I plan to continue taking them for the time being and if I feel a.) that I'm addicted or b.) that I don't want to be dependent on them, I'll just talk to my doctor about stopping.  It's really about as simple as that for me.  Of course I do make sure to do it slowly to minimize any physical addiction symptoms.  I just had a dosage increase a couple of days ago, and I think my doctor said I'm now at a "normal" dose.  I just want to take as little as possible while still being able to function productively.

As for losing weight, I started doing that fast myself.  I've got one of those scales that measures body fat percentage and I've adjusted my diet so that my fat percentage is now dropping, although my weight stays on the low end of the range that it fluctuates in.

Actually SSRI stands for "Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor" and drugs (prozac, zoloft, paxil, lexapro, celexa, etc, etc, etc) that fit under this classification are schedule IV.  Pretty safe according to the DEA.  :)
