I just joined here and started Estradot meds a week ago. Long story for another thread but I'm a cross-dresser who was offered the trans option as a treatment for prostate cancer. p.s. I'm in my 65th year! Considered trans a few times but didn't proceed as there was no compelling reason to do so particularly as I'm hetero. Night need a whole new category?
Yes. I'm different in a group of different people. I've always considered 'Normal' to be another word for 'average' and I've never been motivated by or aspired to be average.
Anyways, I'm excited to be here and looking forward to a new world of experiences.

In answer to your question, like I said it's a long story.
I have been cross dressing for quite a few years now. Started with wearing pantyhose under my leathers while touring Australia by motorcycle for warmth and injury protection and discovering how good they felt against my skin ;D. From there it was my curious nature and the challenge of creating form and shape, exploration of differences, attitudes, posture and attempting to understand cause and effect within those differences. I guess a basically science based mindset and an unexpected comfort when dressed en-femme exclusively in the privacy of my own dwelling. (Usually a tent)
Anyway after nearly 20 years of living rough and following the sun, I decided to settle back in my 'Home' City of Newcastle, moved into a block of apartments and did all of the necessary things like find a doctor.. not as easy as it sounds when you have essentially disappeared for a decade or two. lol. Try getting a rental property without references...
Well, the new doctor, while examining an ingrown toenail, discovered some 'fungus' which he sampled and sent for testing, despite my pleas to the contrary and explanations of improperly removed yellow nail polish! It became necessary to reveal my private idiosyncrasies. He naturally jumped to all the wrong conclusions. I assured him of my sexual orientation and mostly because I love to allow people to explore their own harmless imaginings, I left it at that.
The nitty gritty.. I had tested 35 years earlier for a slight indication of a possible prostate problem and follow-up tests now show cancer, of a low grade, in both lobes. Not being a fan of surgery, or radiation, which would have me in an adult diaper being that old fart who always smells of urine, the alternative was to do nothing until things got worse and then use massive T blocker doses to put the cancer into remission. That path would also contain some risk of the cancer metastasizing before being stopped by the lack of testosterone from the blockers as well as other risks.
My doctor's, by now quite exuberant imagination, having been given full reign and time, came up with the idea that because of my particular circumstance, we could use the original treatment for my condition of oestrogen. It isn't normally offered to men due to their aversion to the feminization side effects but may be suitable for me. ;D I ask you, who with a thirst for knowledge and first hand experience and a genuine belief in gender equality and while not feeling a gender dysphoria but at the same time being ambivalent toward their natural gender assignment could resist? Not me.
My greatest fear was the reaction of others. I will never pass as a woman as long as my butt points to the ground. However, that afternoon, after leaving the doctor's surgery, I took off my DRAB attire for the last time and 3 months later have had nothing but helpful and understanding people around me. Even a woman that other residents warned me would cause trouble in my apartment building, stopped me the other day to congratulate me on my choice of clothing and suggested that I had missed my calling, being a born clothing stylist or designer. I even had a 'Born again Christian" lady who was sprouting the usual line bless me and wish me well after I nicely and patiently drew her attention to my observations regarding the true nature of original sin, its connections to judgment and the teachings of Jesus. She clearly felt enlightened.
So, no problems, no issues and a great deal of excitement on my part.

Hi Anon.
No need for curiosity on that account. I am transitioning. Decision made and I always give myself over fully to my decisions. That was the purpose, in part at least, of dropping the DAB and going full time DRAG.
A better question is, will the HRT magically make men attractive or will I remain lesbian?
The operation side of things is a life long decision based on research and a degree of faith and is highly unlikely to change specially in view of the same old pre-requisite of compelling need, which, at my age, would seem to be less than the remotest possibility.

I am a bit confused about the terminology you use and I only say this to prevent any misunderstandings on my behalf. So you are a Drag performer? I under stand the use of Drab but not drag in the context you use it or are you meaning your wearing of female clothing is drag?

Oh, the DRAG and DRAB thingy.
I used the terms in the original Shakespearian sense. Shakespeare used those notes in his plays to show an actor who was DRessed As Girl or DRessed As Boy. Those terms are still used frequently by crossdressers in their original literal sense.

Lake Macquarie is a very big area, with 465 Miles of shoreline and many towns. It has often been called the dormitory of Newcastle which was traditionally all heavy industry. I can only vouch for the people in my area and a few uneventful forays into some of the larger shopping districts.
I also have age and unconventional, for my age, experiences to guide me.
The first of those experiences occurred in my mid-teens during the early 1970's. Important to note that during that time and for the next 13~14 years it was against the law to be gay! Also, I was raised in a very strict Catholic Family who were business people and pillars of our community both civil and church. In this era one would take whatever ones elders and community/church told them as indisputable truth. Under those conditions all forms of unconventional sexuality was deviate and dangerous. All non-conformists to gender behaviour were automatically deviates, rapists and no male would go near any gay man for fear of being hit from behind and pack raped in an alley. I believed that and now I understand that some still do even now. I make allowances as a result and behave in an appropriately non threatening manner. What taught me better? I am and always have been a lover of music and every weekend a little band, called 'Benny and the Jets', played sets in the Star Hotel, Newcastle. Problem? The Star is/was the most famous/infamous gay hangout in Australia at the time and on band nights was wall to wall DRAG
By now I'm guessing that you are getting the picture about my curious and determined nature so it goes without saying that Benny and the Jets and I had an appointment at the Star. I found a burly and equally determined friend and off we went, literally watching each others backs and not game to venture to the toilets. Nobody in that bar acted any more perverted than one would expect occasionally from a mob of weekend drunks. Thing became more relaxed as the weeks and months went buy and I began at first talking with the other patrons and eventually was invited to some of the venues to 'kick on' after the hotel closed. They turned out to be the happiest group of people I ever met, with a love of fun and adventure like my own. Great non-sexual times were had by all...Myth dispelled. Sadly most men and women of my generation were not as lucky and their pre-formed ideas never challenged.
The other major step forward for me was a religious reformation. I wont go into that other than to say it took 35 years of research and continues today, for me to discover that the Bible is being entirely misinterpreted AND (This is the important bit) what the correct interpretation is. That gives me the opportunity to agree whole heartedly and truthfully with the quotes which those who use them in a weaponized form put forward and at the same time shine a new light on the true meanings for them. Sincerity is the key in that and is not recommended as a technique for the uninitiated.
Having said all that, I had my first young people throwing comments from a car waiting at the traffic lights today. A genuine smile with a slight giggle and a friendly thumbs up did the trick. I'm sure they didn't read my lips as I whispered the word Morons to myself >:-)
