Title: Scrunchies?
Post by: Fae on July 06, 2007, 07:02:38 PM
I bought a pack of really colorful scrunchies two weeks ago, and I was talking to a friend over IM and she asked me, "What, are you living in the 80's or something?"  According to her they're really not in style anymore.  Does anyone agree, because I kind of like them... ???

Just look at what other women are wearing.  Straight hair is currently what seems to be in style.

I'm doomed then, my hair is curly and un-ruly right now

I haven't seen too many women wear scrunchies...shame, they're kind of cute.

I wear scrunchies sometimes.  I've been playing with straight hair lately and using my flattening iron to get a great effect. :)

Scrunchies went a while ago but I wouldn't worry because most fashion statements make a come back. In the past few years there has not been much about "hair accessories", however, that has changed and headbands are making a come back.

I still wear scrunchies at the gym or to bed (when I don't care how I look) because unlike regular hair ties it is less likely to pull your hair which can lead to breakage.

I tought the current in style was don't fight your NATURAL STYLE. So, if your hair is naturally curly (Not just small waves, if it takes one hour to straighten your hair, then you've got curly hair...), work with that, if its straight with that too. When you fight your hair, it damages them in the long run, so you end up with no so great hair.

Scrunchies, Yeah, 80's, but I use them once in awhile. I'm not a victim to fashion, if something looks good on you, use it.

I just like them because they're comfy, and like Yvonne said, they won't pull my hair like a regular hair tie.  I have really curly hair, but if I tie it back not all of it is long enough to tie back, so my bangs usually fall out to the side...makes me look cute!

I wear what is comfortable and sensible.
Scrunchies make the grade! Love them.
Functional beauty. Emphasis on function.
I think scrunchies are a classic that will ever go completely out of style.
But then again, I like to wear farmer's overalls in public too.
Oh phooey... Do I need to sell my stock holdings in Scrunchies Are Us Inc.?

Bah!  I touch my hair at work every now and then just to make sure it's tied back still.  I don't really care  :P

Do you mean you work on an oil rig Kiera, that's what the term redneck originated I think.
I can just picture you, all dainty surrounded by burly rednecks covered in oil slicks  ;D

ROFL!!

Kiera, I don't have too much of a problem with looking "cute" at work because I'm only there for a few more weeks before college starts back up.  Nobody seems to really care anyway, because while I can appear gender deviant there, I know I wouldn't be able to transition there.

Scrunchies..or scunsi...were huge in the late 80's and early 90's...when most people had big hair.....they became a joke and a symbol of bad taste..along with leg warmers...huge shoulder pads..etc..... ;)

On my many shopping trips I have never seen scrunchies anywhere!  Headbands, though, are everywhere and I own a ton.  I see those headbands with little scarf-type things attached to them too, but I have yet to actually try one.

Biggest Challenge Lately: Dissuading Dug, who I work with on a daily basis, (when he's not called sick and causing me to miss flights!) that "I am not gay" while at the same time not letting on that I am TG.

Don't know if you have tried this already, but can you tell your boss that he is harassing you and make him stop?

Here in the south the Hispanic girls have begun to wear them again.  I would imagine the others will follow suit.  They usually do.

I'll probably wear them once in a while, I mean they are pretty cute looking on me, and if it makes me comfortable then why does it matter if it's "in" or not?

roughneck. Roughnecks are the oil platform guys.

Redneck as far as I've ever known it to be originated from the sunburns all good southern boys got from working the farm.

Agreed.  Forget what's in style; it'll be out of style soon anyway.  Wear what makes you happy.

I love scrunchies.  The name just sounds cozy.  I think of them as a way to show my androgeny. So, I wear one everyday.   I have about 2 dozen of them and I can match almost every top in my closet.

The best part about wearing a scrunchy is that it takes my 'do one step further from being a "male tail."

I know about scrunchies being "out" right now.  If I had more hair I would definitely tie it with a tiny elastic, and cover that with a wrapping of my own hair.   Now, that is a fem way to wear a ponytail!

You have to wear what looks good on you, I have a ton of scrunchies, but I rarely wear them out.  I wear my hair in a ponytail in boy-mode, but in girl-mode, I let it roll!  I'm curly too, and I get lots of compliments when I get my hair looking OK without any accessories.

IMHO, tying up your hair in a low-set tail with a scunci is still hot for curl-grls!  High-set ponytails are passe, or for sleeping, though.

Just my 2 cents!

I'm naturally curly too, and yeah I look really hot with the back in a low-set tail with my sides hanging out :)
