Title: HRT Frustrations (FTM)
Post by: lemon on August 21, 2018, 10:49:56 AM
Hey there, I'm pretty sure this is my first post here! I'm a 20 year old FTM who has been on T for almost 3 years.

I'm just wondering if any have shared my experiences when it comes to pharmacy/doctor frustrations. I must note that my doctor has always been extremely respectful and knowledgable about medically transitioning - but the office she works out of is poorly organized. Once a month, I'm allotted 200 mg/mL of testosterone for my doses, which does NOT provide me with 4 whole shots - the last shot is always short of testosterone because of the space between the needle's point and where the plunger ends. In theory, I should be able to do a month's worth of shots with one bottle, but in reality, that isn't the case. Every shot has testosterone lost in the in-betweens of my syringe.

That being said, I have explained this to my doctor and she basically disregarded what I had said (that it was difficult/impossible to get a fourth shot out of the bottle) and told me that it's possible to use it for an entire month. On top of that, the pharmacy her office is connected to is slow, understaffed, and irresponsible. When I need refills authorized, I have to call twice to make sure someone actually put the request in, as they will said one thing and do another. I'm currently a day late for my shot this week and running on half a shot from last week. I can feel the fatigue that is caused by the lack of testosterone creeping in. If the pharmacists had put in the request when I called last week, I might actually have been able to dose correctly today!

Not only is getting my testosterone a hassle, but getting correctly sized needles as well. I just want a streamlined process. This post is a total whine-fest, but oh well. I've been keeping this in for a while now, as not many people I know can relate at all.

*No Dosages Please*

Big hug! Welcome to Susan's Place!

Getting 95+% of your dosage is going to be plenty. Quibbling over a drop is honestly more anxiety
than it's worth. My hormones are dissolved under the tongue. I  can't tell you how many times I've
spit blue onto the sidewalk.

Relax, enjoy the ride.  :)

Hugs, Devlyn

lemon, you can make the first three dosages slightly smaller so to make them all the same amount.

lemon,

It sounds like you need a new pharmacy.

There should be no excuse for not having your meds available when you ask for a refill unless there is a national shortage. Testosterone is not an unusual drug. It is very common and readily available. A good pharmacy keeps track of their drug use and buys drugs ahead of time, so you do not have to wait.

Same thing with the needles. Everybody has personal preferences with needle sizes. You pharmacy should order the sizes you want. Many people fill their syringe with a larger needle and inject with a smaller needle for comfort sake.

Giving yourself a half dose for the last dose of a vial is not enough. You should have a full dose, especially since you are having unwanted side effects from the lower than normal dose for the last shot. I suggest a real heart to heart talk with your doctor. He or she may be concerned about you trying to speed things up by giving yourself a higher dose than prescribed. After you explain the problem you are having, your doctor should be able to provide a proper solution.  The main concern is that Testosterone is a controlled drug and there are restrictions placed on quantities ordered, but there are ways around this that will provide you with the proper amount of Testosterone for each dose.
