This International Women's Day, feminists should - finally - accept transgender women

To even consider whether transgender women belong in women's communities seems retrograde. Simone de Beauvoir's sentiment that "one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman" was expressed over six decades ago, during which time it's become increasingly rare for husky men to come home to a dainty, domestic woman.....

Tribalism abounds. In a minority segment that should know better, marginalization happens amongst us. It's perplexing, but I think it's from insecurity and a mentality of scarcity and penury that some want to protect or think they are protecting their ground. It's obvious to me many never examine what they believe and why. Does including trans people infringe on their rights? No. Do we somehow make them less? No. We face the same ignorance from religious SoCons.the same answers apply.  In both cases they are parochial subcultures that will be brought into the light, whether they want to or not.

I think calling it parochiality gives it too much credit. I suspect it's simple fear of males. I suspect they're so afraid of males that they can't risk regarding us as anything else.

With second wave feminists, probably so. Look at Germaine Greer. She does a SoCon proud with her transphobia. The younger ones should know better. Even Greer should. They are so lockstep with their beliefs that they can't consider that they are wrong. It's parochial and arrogant and ignorant. It never ceases to amaze what people believe and how they don't understand why they do or even what those beliefs really are.

We still live in a society in which trans women purposely degrade and misgender other trans women. As long as members of our own segment of society are doing that to each other, why should we expect everyone else to accept us? I can understand that women do that to women, but we have been through an awful lot to be whom we are. We deserve better treatment from those within our own segment of society. Practice what you preach. I know things look all rosy on this site, but that is thanks to the wonderful moderators.
