Does anyone here know what is required to change your gender marker on an Indiana birth certificate? I've tried to find the answer myself, but just about every website that I've checked says something different.
The indiana lgbt rights page on wikipedia says that srs isn't required to change your gender marker, but that's all the information it gives. Other websites say that it IS required, and others say it's not. I was told that you need a court order, and to get the court order, you needed a letter from a doctor saying that you've had enough surgery to change your gender, but that how much is enough depends on the doctor.
I contacted the state department of health about this, but they haven't gotten back to me.
I'm not ready to make that change yet, but if I'm going to live full time than I'd like to, and I'm not crazy about the idea of having to wait a year to do so, granted, I am going to consider srs, but I still have to be living as female ful time for at least a years before they will let be have it, and if possible, I'd like to change my gender marker when I get ready to start living as a female. Does anyone know what is required? and yes, I realize that some state will accept a court order from another state.

Hello! The following information is regarding people who were born in Indiana: The law is not very clear, but generally people have not been required to undergo any surgery. People have been required to document "permanent" changes that result in "gender transition" and you need a letter from a physician (not a therapist) that states this. Then you need to get a court order. The court order sounds kind of daunting, but it is actually pretty simple. You do NOT need a lawyer, especially since the president was set.
