Catholic Bishops in the US are behind a new campaign encouraging parents to reject their transgender children.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a letter this week that brands transgender people "deeply troubling" and claims that changing gender is a "false idea".
There is nothing in the Bible about transgender people or changing gender, but the Bishops have called for parents to refuse to allow kids to transition.
Studies have shown that an unaccepting or stifling environment drastically increases the likelihood that transgender youths will attempt suicide......

From a bunch of people that saw nothing wrong with covering up for 1000s of heinous acts of pedophilia this is truly pathetic. Sure they're concerned about children. What a hateful, despicable group.

Let's not let the evangelicals off the hook on this one. Lots of them signed the letter too.
Their position is understandable though. In order for their theology to be true then demonstrated reality has to be false.

I'm not certain, but I don't think the pope is on board completely with this.
I grew up Catholic. I never bought into it, but I had no idea how extreme they are. I will now shut up before I get myself in trouble. There is a line from "Game of Thrones" that is appropriate here. "Shame"...shame... shame...shame..."

The pope gets his LGBT+ information from Paul McHugh, the notorious transphobe and darling of the evangelical anti-trans movement.
color me shocked #EyeRoll
They are confusing gender and sexuality. I find it disturbing that the welfare of the child a back seat to trying to make a person something that they are not.
:(
Well I can tell you that, that is a load of bull. My grandma was a hard core Catholic and she believed everything God was good, her bishop told her to accept me for who I am because I was a gift from god regardless who I chose to be. So I love how people still think so poorly about this stuff and say that ALL religious figures are against trans when that is a lie honestly. I my self am not Catholic I am instead Wicca since Wicca is one of the only religions with no bias beliefs, my Grandma (Now passed) knew I was not one to follow the Catholic faith and instead followed the spiritual rout of beliefs, but even though she would tell me stories that where religious and share with me things she knew about God, she never pressured me into following the Catholic faith or even tried changing my mind. She supported me fully and even gave my mom and I her money as an inheritance to help with any needs I may have due to my transgender situation. So bottom line people just use that "Your sinning" stuff because they are immature and don't want to accept you, but in truth the bible does not teach to hate gays or transgenders, and if it does most priests don't bother with those teachings.
Given all the pedophile priests, why would any parent listen to the church about kids?

The Pope has only and ever opposed what he calls "gender theory." He's pretty stridently opposed to transgender recognition and rights.
He's a little more lenient of gay rights tho. Which I find odd.
But then again, he does believe that he is the living incarnation of deity, so I guess it's not really so surprising after all.

No Pope has ever claimed to be an incarnation of God. He simply claims to be the human head of the Church on earth.

Not in so many words. He's technically considered Christ's Vicar on Earth. Which is in turn translated into Christ's representative on earth. And so that brings us to the small matter of what is called Papal Infallibility. In other words, once he puts on the crown he is de facto infallible in all matters of church doctrine because he now had a direct connection with the divine. Parse it any way you want, but he in no longer an ordinary mortal. I honestly see only a distinction without a difference.
All Christians claim a direct connection with the divine. That's what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit. What the Pope claims is a distinction without a difference other than being the head of the Church.

:police: What does this discussion of the Pope and his standing in the church have to do with the news item itself? Lets get back on topic :police:
