Socially, physically, whatever... what song do you think describes us?

I think I've always liked depressing music

The Ocean by Against Me!
especially the second verse
QuoteIf I could have chosen, I would have been born a woman.
My mother once told me she would have named me Laura.
I would grow up to be strong and beautiful like her.
One day I'd find an honest man to make my husband.
We would have two children, build our home on the Gulf of Mexico.
Our family would spend hot summer days at the beach together.
The sun would kiss our skin as we played in the sand and water.
We would know we loved each other without having to say it.
At night we would sleep with the windows of our house left open.
Letting the cool ocean air soothe the sunburned shoulders of our children.

While looking through youtube I came across Helen Reddy's "I am Woman" and think it could strongly relate to us.

This song has a lot of meaning to me.  Its a good representation of how living with multiple genders is for me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPfMb50dsOk

I'm not a fan of puppeteers but I've a nagging fear
someone else is pulling at the strings
Something terrible is going down through the entire town
wreaking anarchy and all it brings

I can't sit idly, no, I can't move at all
I curse the name, the one behind it all...

Discord, I'm howlin' at the moon
And sleepin' in the middle of a summer afternoon
Discord, whatever did we do
To make you take our world away?

Discord, are we your prey alone,
Or are we just a stepping stone for taking back the throne?
Discord, we won't take it anymore
So take your tyranny away!

I'm fine with changing status quo, but not in letting go
Now the world is being torn apart
A terrible catastrophe played by your symphony,
what a terrifying work of art!

Not really trans, but can't count how many times I find myself singing "Feel like a woman" by Shania Twain! ;D

Imagine Dragons "Demons" re: marriage/family issues

The end of the video is from one of their other songs... that has a refrain that's also perfect.

Not sure if the song is about being trans* but I swear the video is:

(oh btw, the male dancer in that video, yep, that's my dream body)

Not sure how well it describes the trans* condition overall, but certainly describes how I'm feeling on the MTF side right now..

Ayria - Girl on the Floor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxiNtJeTps8)

Mirror mirror, on the wall
I'm just someone with no self control
You don't know the real me,
but you get a glimpse
so you paint a picture
So vivid, but just so wrong

This little girl is broken this time (broken)
I've seen things no one should ever have to see
I paint a smile on to tell the world I'm doin' fine
While everything I've known flies out the window

(Chorus:)
I just want to leave this situation
I don't want to reach this destination
Can't you see I've lost the motivation
I want to leave this situation

Mirror mirror, on the wall
You see a girl with no self control
You ask what I want - it's complicated
The truth is: I don't know..

I guess it's not enough to be there sometimes (sometimes)
But I've been dealt a hand no one should ever have to play
I guess I've really messed up this time, messed up this time
but I'm too tired to fake the strength behind this lie

CHORUS

And now I sit here,
all alone in the world
My head is filled with
advice I once ignored:
That all you get from this moment,
is all you gave to your past
And all you'll get from this moment,
is what you gave to your past

I'm turning to the next thing
and I laugh just for this moment
I'm crying on the bathroom floor
'cause nothing is the same
I'm turning to the next one
Then we're laughing for the moment
I'm crying on the bathroom floor
I can not regain strength

CHORUS x2

And now I sit here,
all alone in the world
My head is filled with
advice I once ignored:
That all you get from this moment,
is all you gave to your past
And all you'll get from this moment,
is what you gave to your past

EDIT: oh and erm, the full story behind that song from the singer herself if anyone is interested: http://www.ayria.com/2010/11/song-dissection-8-girl-on-the-floor/ (http://www.ayria.com/2010/11/song-dissection-8-girl-on-the-floor/)

Not a world away, is it? :(

Not exactly trans* but I love this song, and I think a lot of trans* members can relate to the feeling of not being quite in or out.  :)

Alright, well, I fail at posting videos here. Lol
While not a huge fan (I prefer Stone Sour) the song Slipknot - Vermillion Pt. 2 is a pretty great, albeit kind of hopeless look on it.

My Body is a Cage by the Arcade Fire has always done it for me, Peter Gabriel's cover of it is pretty good too, though.

I think this song, though its lyrics are very simple, sums up my feelings about my biological male appearance and self. "I don't love" it  :-X

Behind Blue Eyes's by the Who was very profound during my coming out phase.  I listened to it over and over again, and really got me moving.

Behind Blue Eyes
No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man, to be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it's like
To be hated, to be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams, they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance that's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger, none of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams, they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance that's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

And if I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
And if I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man, to be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

When I came out the song that described my trans status was "Breaking the Habit" by Linkin Park because I was so sick of living a lie.
I can't do links as i'm using an Xbox not a PC but every time I listened to the song I would picture the male me singing the song infront of a mirror, the reflection would be the female me singing the song whilst trying to smash her way through the glass, i'm glad she's out of the mirror now.

The 2 songs that now describe being trans best for me are "When you believe" by Chloe Agnew & "To Be Free" by Mike Oldfield

"Demons" by Imagine Dragons
"Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera
"Not Afraid" by Eminem
"Same Love" by Macklemore
"Trust In Me Now" by Anthony Evans (christian theme, but wakes me up every time i hear it)
"The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World
"Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park

These songs are more inspiration than description. I got many more, but i think thats enuff for now.

Another Against Me! song everyone should check out is Searching For A Former Clarity. The song was on their 2005 album of the same name, way before Laura Jane Grace came out, and describes being on her deathbed without having been honest with herself. That's how I interpret it. As a sidenote, in just three days I get to see am! and ljg live up here in Vermont! So ready for it :)
