Title: What's the worst/weirdest Christmas gift you've recieved?
Post by: Julia1996 on December 22, 2017, 09:07:42 AM
Hi everyone. So what's the strangest Christmas give you've ever received? For me it was some orthopedic shoes my grandma gave me two years ago. The were special shoes for people who are on their feet all day. OMG, ugly doesn't come close! They looked like Frankenstein shoes. She wanted me to put them on and walk across the room to see how comfortable they were. Which I did. When I put them on my grandpa said " damn Marta, why did you buy her handicapped shoes ?" That made my brother get up and leave the room (so he could laugh) and my dad was really trying not to laugh. Yes they were totally ugly but they shouldn't have laughed. It's the thought that counts.  Last year someone gave me a chia pet. And then there was last year when one of my brothers gifts to me was a toaster.

Please share your weird gift stories.

My dad buys everything last minute out of a magazine, the Heartland catalog or something like that. One year, he gave me 4 DVD set of 100 "classic" movies from up through the 50's or so. At first I thought "hey, this isn't bad", but then I began to look at the movies. I had heard of none of them--and I know movies. 100 films, and only one or two even had filled out IMDB pages. This was the classic movie equivalent of releasing a "modern" box set including Carnosaur, and Spartan... but worse because I actually could name those movies, they were just bad.

I gotta admit, I was a little offended one year when my dad got me a DVD of "the 40 year old virgin". I was also offended the one year my grandmother put a slim fast bar in my stocking. I was 8 years old!!  >:(

Didn't think I can participate until I unpacked a bag we received earlier today. Amongst other things it contained:
- an 8 pack toothbrushes with one missing
- a dual pack dental floss (well... half of it)
- and an open pack of toothpicks.

Don't believe me? Here you go:

That's hilarious. And kind of sad too. Is the person who gave it to you a dentist?  Lol

That's mean! A slimfast bar.Lol.  Well when I was 12 my grandpa gave me an industrial sized bottle of vitamins. He told me if I took them every day maybe It would help me grow and I wouldn't be so small and scrawny. My grandpa used "scrawny"  to describe me all the time. I don't know why he was so fixated on my size.

Don't be so shocked. When they robbed my house, they took about half a pack of toothbrushes (about 8 ) and a partial package of tooth paste (two tubes). In my opinion it's hardly worth going to jail for however the rest of the stuff  they took would have been worth it.

I worked on Spartan:)

I've gotten terrible gifts and great gifts from the same people.  One year was a flashlight set, and I'm talking plastic everready.  Then the next year was an encyclopedia written in an alien language.  Amazing how he could get one so right and so wrong, but it happens.  I look at the encyclopedia still and it's been 10 years.  My mom gives me ties every year even though I ask her not to.  She got the hint after coming out finally!  I get a lot of weird gifts.  I got a lot of cadaver gifts one year, like toe tags, casket plates.  Another year a metal sculpture of the predator.  One year I got locks from the 1800s.  I used to use one at the gym on my locker.  There was no missing my lock that was welded together from iron plate.  Most of these were from my dad.  Maybe his brain fires like mine.

I don't recall any gifts that were that bad, but I did get a large musical/singing Cliff Richard Xmas card from my ex.

He knows that's the cringiest, most useless possible thing I could ever receive and I congratulated him on some cringe well done.

The few bad Christmas gift stories I have are sad, not funny, so indulge me as I tell a bad birthday gift story instead.

Two weeks prior to my birthday three and a half years ago I came out to Randi, my wife. Obviously a very emotional time and even now we haven't quite recovered. Randi, our friend, and the friend's husband planned to celebrate my birthday as the four of us were want to do.

When I opened up their gift, which she proudly said she had picked out, it was a fleshlight. (Look it up.)

All I could think was, "what the heck am I supposed to do with this?"

A few years ago my wife and daughters received maxi-pads from my parents at Christmas. I know my parents meant well and it was something they could use, but that was truly awful. Can't even use that at a white elephant gift exchange!

It's been tuff to explain that at 6'4" and nearing 300 lbs at the time, that you can't just go buy something off the shelf.

Lol. That's too funny! Well they were being practical. Lol.  Every Christmas for the past three years my brother gives me a box of personal stuff. My Venus razors, hair ties, nail polish remover, perfume, bath oils and make-up.  Depending on which female friend or girlfriend helps him pick it out, the make-up is usually stuff I use. I think it's a cool gift.

Personal stuff besides tampons, adult diapers, etc is a good gift. My brother wraps everything he puts in the box and then wraps the big box. That's a cute idea.  Speaking of personal gifts, when Tyler was 16 my dad put a box of rubbers in his stocking. He told Tyler he wanted him to have and use them because he was too young to be a grandpa. Lol.

When I was very young (4or5) my grandmother (the mean one) gave me a shoehorn with a brush on the other side.  I wanted a toy.  She was well off, we were dirt poor.

The fleshlight post reminded me of something but I didn't know if it was appropriate to share. I guess it is, it's gross but funny. Our old vacuum was a canister. I started noticing a nasty odor everytime I used it. I would put a clean bag in it but it would still smell bad everytime I used it. My dad noticed too when he used it to clean his car. I couldn't figure out what was causing the smell. Well I found out! My brother had been using the vacuum for self pleasure! He would take off the hose and put Mr. Happy in the opening. Of course his...seed got sucked into the bag. He must have done it a lot to cause an odor! My mom came home early one day and caught him red handed. Of course she told my dad and I what she caught him doing. He was about 14 at the time and embarrassed doesn't cover how he felt. Lol

OMG I came here coz I wanted to do a similar thread,  :D ;D!!!! Exactly the same!!!!

Coz I wanted to share this!

I haven't read the others yet but... I think this comes to close topping everyone!!!

My family has a tradition of handing some little gifts for everyone at first and everyone opens them at the same time etc. It's like 'for starters' before the actual gifts. So usually they are some little stuff etc.

Well, after coming out (!) one Xmas my sister gives me the 'first gift' and guess what it is?!! It's ugly women's white cotton panties. Worse still: She tells me she bought them for herself but decided to give them to me coz they didn't fit  ;D! That must be by far the worst Christmas starter ever (and the worst gift ever I've received)!!! You can guess that put me in some foul mood.......

They were like in a packaging that was already opened coz she had tried them on,  :o!!!

Top that if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that was after they all knew I was a guy,  :o!!!!!! Welcome to my oh, so thoughtful family... Soon after that I stopped spending Xmas with them altogether. It's just me & my SO. And we are bloody enjoying it that way!!!

(Did I already tell you that my sis is over 20 years older than me?)

If there's a way to totally invalidate a trans guy, that would be it.

Forgot to mention that my dad remembered me one xmas with a stack of copy paper. That was actually quite a good gift from him (he usually didn't give me anything personally, he let my mom buy all the gifts that weren't that good either). Since I like to draw and stuff, that was actually useful. Everyone needs copy paper, right?

After that I think he has given me copy paper some other years too.

Yes, sadly enough it's true. I guess horny teenage boys get inventive when it comes to self gratifying. How he ever got the idea to use the vacuum I don't know. It's not like he had ever used it. Well for its intended purpose anyway. But I had fun with it. Anytime we were at a store and got close to a vacuum display I would tell him to control himself and not get too worked up. Lol

I wouldn't have thought someone would actually do that either. One of his dumb friends probably had done it and told Tyler about it.  What I can't figure out is how he didn't get instant SRS. Doesn't a vacuum make suction with a fan? I would think anything you stick in the suction hole of a vacuum would get shredded.

As a child of about 8-9? somewhere around that age. I got a left hand plastic washing glove carefully wrapped in Christmas paper and placed under the tree from my Aunty Marg. I still recall it. I remember my Mum being quite vocal and saying words that I didn't understand, I have banned them from use on the site!

Then again, I remember the present and her. So was it the worse present??

Every year without fail my mother would use christmas to try to "change" me into a sweet girl. So I would get dresses, girlfriend mags, scrapbooking supplies, body stuff.

The worst however was the gift one year of 3 months in finishing school.

No worries, I've worked on far worse too, plus I'm still proud of the work I did in it, invisible effects, that nobody would notice an being fabricated.  Mamet is actually one of the nicest guys I've met in this business.  There are true terrible people, but not him.

Back on topic.  For a Xmas secret Santa a coworker gave me chocolate covered cherries since that was his favorite candy.  It's one of the few things that makes me want to come by taste it even smell.  Then he insisted that we have one together.  Me being nice I did.  I can still taste it, the rising bile.  Eef:)

Eef, I can't believe someone bought a glass butt plug as a gift.  Even as art, that's tacky.  Now a gift certificate from your favorite adult novelty store, that's a friend for life!

Not to go super off topic, but...

I've heard that about him, actually. And to be fair, I generally take issue with a lot of the critical darlings, so it's not just Mamet specific. ;D With Mamet, what drives me nuts that everyone is in love with and talks about how realistic "mamet speak" is, but I find it extraordinarily contrived. (In contrast I always mention Tarantino, who has contrived dialogue on purpose that has no pretense of being realistic.) Heist was what turned me against him so everything after that was just tinged with bias derived from it, and he has yet to redeem himself to me. ;D I actually liked almost all of his earlier stuff a lot, even Ronin. (Though I still think he was the wrong person to write Hannibal, even if it wasn't a bad movie.)

I'm a total wannabe film critic. ;D I remember when I saw Scream 2, and they had the scene with the film school kids talking about sequels near the beginning. I smacked myself in my head and said "oh god, is that what I sound like?". The answer was yes, yes it was.

Ha - I love those! Dark chocolate covered ones... yummy!

Always have to think of one of my coworkers: we have all been working in a building where coffee was strictly forbidden for religious reasons. Our Project Manager have all of US a small bag of chocolate covered coffee beans and we secretly nibbles away every time our customer left the room. So far so good, until on of my coworkers in a hasty arm movement spilled his bag all across the room which immediately filled the room with a coffee / chocolate smell. We collected all we could find but even month later I would still find them hidden behind desks... we all laughed so ha d about it...

I have a friend who works in an ER... and yes, on a regular basis they have adventurous boys and men come in and needing immediate attention for injuring themselves or getting it stuck in bottles...

So glad I never hurt myself trying again o use an electric sander for that purpose (very embarrassed). I should have sanded it off right there and then...

I've received some lousy gifts in my life. One that takes the cake: and old, worn out, paperback romance book. That's even worse than when my ex gave me 3 pieces of firewood. If I had received both gifts at the same time, I could have used the book to light the wood.

A dirty used book and firewood. Lol. My grandma used to tell us we would get a stocking full of coal if we weren't good kids.  When I was 8 my brother took the stuff out of my stocking and put charcoal in there. I guess he couldn't get any coal. Lol

At least coal burns hotter than books or wood. It has to. People forge iron with coal.

That's unbelievably BAD,  ;D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In top 3 definitely!!!!!!!!

Wait wait - Aunt Marg? Was she related to Aunt Marge (from Harry Potter),  ;D?!?

I have another:
Once my dad brought some souvenirs to me & my SO.
They were 2 books he had bought from the airport - 2 novels meant for adolescent girls,  :o!!! And we were adults!!!!!!!!!!!

So, like I said, the copy paper from him was a very thoughtful gift  ::)

Dark chocolate covered espresso beans are truly awesome.

Besides dark chocolate being way more better,  it has the added bonus of my kids not liking it so they don't eat it when I get some.

When I was a kid, we had a gag gift present each year. We did it like a secret Santa thing by drawing names. We added a caveat that the gift had to be worn somewhere on you all Christmas day where it could be seen. One year someone bought an extra large pair of light pink nylon granny panties for I think my brother. Those panties went from him to someone else the next year. They made the rounds each year until they made it to me. I made a fuss about it, but dutifully wore them sticking out of a pocket or something like that. Secretly, I was happy about having my very own panties, even though they were way too big. They didn't get passed on because I kept them for myself. I was still in elementary school, perhaps 4th grade or so. Yes, I've been at this a long long time and I have known it was wrong from even before that.

Hugs,
   Laurie

Someone left a 'Care Package' at my door last night, which was thoughtful and there were a few okay things in it

Unfortunately it was obviously a 'For Men' pack and also contained 'For Men' toiletries including body wash, shampoo, Barbasol shave cream and an Old Spice deodorant  :P  Lovely

I just gave away the my Suave shampoo (about 2/3 full) to my nephew so I didn't have to wait to buy nice citrus scented Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner. He could use it and I get to smell good under my wig.

That's funny. We give gag gifts too. For the last 2 years it's been a mummified banana. It's gone back and forth. I think my grandma had it last. I was the one who started it. I found this dead black banana behind our refrigerator.  How it got there I don't know. Most likely it was Tyler. Once when he didn't know I was standing there he had spilled ricecrispies on the floor. Instead of getting the broom or dustbuster he swept them under the stove with his foot. The banana was black and rock hard. No nasty odor either. I almost threw it away but I ended up wrapping it up for my brother's birthday. It been given back and forth for Christmas and birthdays.

Is this like one of those things where someone gives their 16 year old something car related when they don't have a car, the 16 year old is confused then told to look outside and there is a shiny new car, except in place of a car someone got you a time machine?

I got a useless gift this year from a girl at work. This girl has told me I should get a tan and I've explained more than once why I can't. She gave me a gift certificate for a couple of sessions at a tanning salon. I asked her if she was sure she meant to give it to me and not someone else. She said no it was for me and if I started working on it now I could have an awesome tan for spring. I explained to her for the hundredth time  can't be exposed to UV light or I would burn up.  She said yes she knew that but a tanning bed wasn't UV light, it used electric bulbs to tan instead of UV light. Wow.......I had built up a pretty good tolerance to imbeciles but there must be a new strain of them out there. We should just remove all the safety labels and warning labels on everything and let the problem fix itself.
