CARRBORO -- A political newcomer who wants to limit the size of the town filed Thursday to challenge Mayor Mark Chilton in his bid for re-election.

Ashley has lived in Orange County since 1984 and in Carrboro since 2000. She works at Phydeaux pet store, which recently moved from Carrboro to Chapel Hill, and has an undergraduate degree in political science from Guilford College. She is openly transgender and has two children from a past marriage to a woman. She says she hopes that will not become an issue.
