Title: Davinas diet (attempt !)
Post by: davina61 on January 02, 2019, 04:33:14 AM
Having been of work for 2 months has not helped and with holiday food and stuff like going out for meals I have ended up putting on 7LB when I already needed to lose 20+ LB . Nearly finished all the holiday food so starting to cut back on intake , porridge and banana for breakfast to keep energy levels up . Exercise is a problem due to my right Achilles tendon being very weak , bone out of place in foot and ankle tips over. After walking any good distance I am in pain next day and wake up with cramps. As I will hopefully be going to Gender Clinic in the next few months the battle is on ,BTW I have been over weight since always , managed to get down to 11ST 8LB  to get married 30+ years ago , Since then its climbed to over 15ST , think the HRT has not helped either.  Anyways will keep a log of weigh ins

@davina61
Dear Davina:
Yes indeed, a very bad combination...  being out of work and all the rich Holiday-time treats, meals and gatherings too!   Obviously exercise is an important element in weight loss, but also watching what you eat and the types of foods you eat.

For me to keep my weight where I want it to be, I do exercise a lot,  most of the time I eat whatever I like but I use portion control, smaller portions, smaller plates, etc.   ...   obviously everyone is different and their metabolism is different so you have to find what works for you.   I do a lot of baking as I see that you also do, and I enjoy giving away most of what I bake and cook...

Yes, regular weigh-ins at the same time of the day, usually first thing in the morning without wearing heavy clothing is a good time to see your progress.... your progress or lack thereof will help you to modify your exercising and eating habits.

Wishing you well and I am rooting for you to get back to your target weight... when you do, you will feel better about yourself and about life....
...plus you will have to buy new clothes perhaps!! ... that can be fun!!

HUGS... and well wishes as always,
Danielle

You can do it. Cut surgar and portion sizes while also doing some light walking and you will see the weight melt off.

I use stevia in drinks. It sweetens them up.
But even stevia can have added ingredients, so look before you buy.

Just watched a diet cooking program, but it was for folk that eat junk and was to get them eating fresh cooked meals. Something I do already mostly. It was followed by a show using twins to see the best ways of doing things one of which was diet verses exercise,one twin (there were several sets) ate 1000 cal less than RD (recommended daily) and the other exercised 1000 cal per day. Diet won as between them lost 16kilo over 1 month as against 14 , also the time spent exercising (2 HR a day) and feeling tired (knackered!!! )  So diet it is ,just need to be able to work out calories for what I cook.

I freeze freshly bake goods and eat them later for portion control.  That way I don't eat too much.

Cutting back on wine with a meal has helped me.  Not that I drank every night, but I noticed when I had a glass the night before my number would be up a bit.

I am pretty sure it was @Drexy/Drex who made a great point to me about the amount of carbs I was eating and how much difference it made when you cut back. This was around the time when my weight loss had stalled just before surgery and I took time to reduce them and monitor the result. It was this that tipped me over the line to reach my goal...Good on you for committing to the weight loss and I have no doubt you will obtain you goal.

Good luck

Diet works for me, l do little exercise just do not have the time. So I eat around 1000 cals a day , about halve the recommend amount, no additional sugar, no sugar drinks just good food made with fresh ingredients. Lost loads of weight, currently 168lbs, only another 20 to go and at the rate of 10 a month should be there in March
Will power and determination does it and you can do it

I think it would be a reasonable goal to lose 10 pounds in eight weeks for most people, except for those who are underweight to begin with or if losing those ten pounds would make that person underweight.

It is so hard if you get hungry. I tell myself if I'm hungry and I do not eat then my body will take its requirements from somewhere else and so I will be losing weight

Then if you had done well for a few days give yourself a treat. If have some chilli choc penguins from hotel chocolat that I was given for Christmas and I will eat one of them as a treat for being good

@davina61   @LizK   @Jessica_K
Dear Davina, Liz, and Jessica:
I feel your pain ladies.....
Most obviously being hungry is not a good way to be if one is trying hard to lose weight.
In the past when I been on diets and watched my food intake, I found that if was getting hungry before meal time that I would just drink a cup or two of coffee/tea/diet soda pop/water  etc....
That would take away the hunger "pains" for a while so later I could have a decent portion controlled balanced meal.

Being super-hungry when one is preparing food or ordering in a restaurant is usually not a good plan.... our eyes get bigger than our stomachs and/or we tend to eat excessively and eat the wrong things....
....smaller plates, portion control and regular exercise seems to be a good combination for my body.

Good luck ladies.... I know what you are going through.   But my dear Davina, you love to cook and bake a lot much like I do, my freezer gets full before I can give it all away or invite guests to my home to entertain with a meal or treats.

Hugs, and more hugs,
Danielle

I have found a new way of losing weight. Digging a path to the house out of the snow
I have a large standing area for cars and a path meaning that the house is some 30m from the gate. Took about an hour of heavy shovelling to clear enough to walk to the door  ;D

The scales are yoyoing , got told I looked lovely last night all dressed up and when I said I needed to lose the stomach told I looked fine!!! Not so as the dress I was wearing used to be loose and I struggled to do zip up and its not from the extra on the girls either

@davina61
Dear Davina:
While your scales can yoyo up and down, it is how you fit into your clothes that should shock you into submission!!! :)

For me, I have a favorite dress that I use as guide.   When it starts fitting somewhat tight, then I know that I have to knock off the treats and cookies and hit the treadmills at the Gym.

Lately however I have been very pleased that when I put the dress on, it zips up easily and is not tight fitting...
... that is a signal that now I can have my treats and cookies.   ;)

Wishing you well with your continuing diet plans...

QUESTION.... how is your eye, and how is your wrist??? ???

Hugs,
Danielle

Scalles have always Yoyoed for me by a few pounds as I weigh daly and the scales are rubbish. Just ignore it and go with the trend. It will be down if you keep close to your diet. I weight same time in the morning and I have noticed that the ups and downs reflect how good I have been with a 2 day delay. This can throw you and seem disheartening if you ate good and the weight goes up.

I have been on a 1000C (ish) diet for 3 months and losing about 14lb a month

Love

If a new battery doesn't solve the problem you will want to make certain that the scale is on an even smooth surface...  if it still acts up it is time to get a new one

You can do it. Take walks. Drink tea or good old fashioned water.

As long as you eat less then you burn the weight will come off. Even if the number isn't going down stick with it and the unhealthy fat will continue to burn off.

This is certainly not new NEWS to anyone that is trying to lose weight...
It comes off so slowly, and ounce at a time, but in a flash you can gain pounds without even trying....

Keep on keeping on with your diet (attempt)
You will get to you goal with hard work, determination, willpower,
... and giving away all of your baked goods that you like to make.   ;) :o ??? ::)

Hugs,
Danielle

There is one other option. Spices and other seasoning can make foods like vegetables and skinless chicken taste good without the need to reduce your portions as much. I find sometimes I eat more if the food is boring where as if the food taste good, I feel like I have had something to eat and can get by with less.

The low cal recipes in the booklet use things like lard, cream and things you would think that should be avoided . Made a pepper and sweet corn curry, its all veg and 2 table spoons of veg (sunflower) oil . put less anyway.Its very tasty and hot as it has 2 green chillies finely chopped . Might take some to work instead of salad

Dear Davina:
Please do not get frustrated and give up.  In any weight loss journey, there are plateaus that are seemingly difficult to pass by.
Don't give up ....  keep tabs on your portion control, doing what exercise that you can and watch carefully the carbs and calories that you intake... and always keep hydrated and eat lots of high fiber foods.

@davina61
Dear Davina:
Great minds must think alike.
I just asked you about your low-carb diet on your  "Davina's diary" thread.

Wow, 3 pounds is wonderful news and great progress....
Whatever you are doing to lose weight, keep it up and keep it going!!!!

Hugs,
Danielle

Hi Davina!

Great to hear you are making progress!

I did some baking today.  Ate two servings today and froze the rest to eat at work during lunchtime.
