Title: Crossing Lines: Understanding My New Privilege as a Transman
Post by: adoubek on August 04, 2013, 03:35:04 PM
Over the last few months I have been finally passing as a guy. With this comes the fact that I now look like a cisgender, straight, white, middle class man. I have been exploring what this is like and have been trying to find a comfortable place in my new amount of privilege.

How very refreshing to have any man be aware of privilege.  I can only applaud and thank you for bringing all of your experience with you on your journey to manhood.  I have been involved as an activist since 1975 and my greatest disappointment early on was the discrimination within our minority groups as some are so ready to note how much more gay or trans or black they are.  I used to joke about being issued a platinum gayamericard, but it really isn't funny.  I am now more keenly aware of and better able to understand the white male privilege I once took for granted.  It really does help to walk in another's shoes.
