Quel matin!

Where to begin? At the beginning, I suppose (ask a stupid question...)

Got a call from my sister (the therapist) this morning, she was VERY excited to share some news with me. She told me about how she broke the news to her daughters (both of whom reached out to me in very lovely ways) and that was nice. And then she told me all the hilarious stories of when she told her friends... and how all she told them was that she had family news, and that it was happy news, nothing bad and to call her... and they were all guessing what it was. And she told me all of their funny, funny guesses...

And she told me how supportive they all are.. how they want to throw me showers, and parties, and... I forget all the other stuff. IT. WAS. A. LOT.

The thing is, obviously, I hadn't told her it was ok to tell her friends. I guess I hadn't told her it WASN'T? But I did specifically tell them they could share the news with their kids via my letter so that the kids would have my words in front of them, so... that seems like a pretty decent indication.

But I didn't say anything.

Here's why.

First, these girlfriends of hers -- there's five of them -- are basically family. I've known them as long as I've been alive basically. I actually referred to them (and my other sisters' friends) at the lunch over the weekend as one of the reasons I chose my name : people like that have been calling me this my whole life anyway. It'll be easy for them.

Plus my sister was just so excited by all this, as were her friends... so I just, I don't know, the people pleaser in me just couldn't say anything.

It should be moot within 10 days anyway, as we tell my wife's family this week, and friends next week.

Therapist seemed to agree with this take, so I'm good.

She also had a really good piece of advice (per usual). I was discussing the letter to my wife's family. I will obviously edit the letter to my sibs and make it focus more on my wife. But she also said it would be a good idea to have it actually be co-written, so there's not just me saying how my wife feels, but a part in there from my wife saying how she feels.

She is monumentally busy this week, so I'm assuming I will be drafting that for her...which I'm good with that. So long as it gets the job done.

I did manage to get in 2 miles on the treadmill, so that's good.

Love,
Allie

Megan Rapinoe Urges NCAA To Make 'Right' Decision On Trans Athletes

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/megan-rapinoe-urges-ncaa-to-make-right-decision-on-trans-athletes/ar-AA1nw8c9?ocid=windirect&cvid=b9d274955a404bf69ab1c1ed5beb7ee3&ei=25

Story by Chris Rosvoglou

Former USWNT star Megan Rapinoe has made her stance on transgender athletes competing in women's sports abundantly clear.

Rapinoe has signed a letter that is directed for NCAA president Charlie Baker and the Board of Governors. The letter was created by Athlete Ally, which advocated for inclusion in all sports.

The letter that Rapinoe signed demands the NCAA to take action and protect transgender athletes. It's also signed by basketball legend Sue Bird, WNBA player Layshia Clarendon and several other prominent names.

"To deny transgender athletes the fundamental right to be who they are, to access the sport they love, and to receive the proven mental and physical health benefits of sport goes against the very principles of the NCAA's Constitution," the letter says. "We call on you to be on the right side of history and affirm that sport is truly for us all.

"Do not ban transgender women from NCAA women's sports."

"It's particularly frustrating when women's sports is weaponized. Oh, now we care about fairness? Now we care about women's sports? That's total [expletive]. And show me all the trans people who are nefariously taking advantage of being trans in sports. It's just not happening," Rapinoe said, via CNN.

That is great news!

My wife was very accepting so I learned a lot about female socializing from her perspective growing up on the West Coast with sisters.

That is wonderful on all accounts, Marion! I'm so happy for you!!!

Since I grew up with three older sisters, that part I feel ok with... but as you know, having an accepting wife is the whole ball of string.

New federal rule bars transgender school bathroom bans, but it likely isn't the final word

https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/health-news/new-federal-rule-bars-transgender-school-bathroom-bans-but-it-likely-isn-t-the-final-word/ar-AA1nuhl5?ocid=windirect&cvid=32a8728ae3094e28809221a7c621bfdc&ei=36

Story by GEOFF MULVIHILL (22 April 2024)

A new rule from President Joe Biden's administration blocking blanket policies to keep transgender students from using school bathrooms that align with their gender identity could conflict with laws in Republican-controlled states.

The clash over bathroom policy and other elements of a federal regulation finalized last week could set the stage for another wave of legal battles over how transgender kids should be treated in the U.S.

In recent years, transgender people have gained visibility and acceptance in the U.S. – and some conservative officials have pushed back.

Most GOP-controlled states now have laws reining in their rights. Measures include laws to keep transgender girls out of girls school sports, limiting which school bathrooms transgender people can use, requiring school staff to notify parents if their student identifies in school as transgender, and barring school staff from being required to use the pronouns a transgender student uses.

Most of those policies have been challenged in court.

Here's a look at the new regulation, the states' laws and what could happen next...

Disc Golf Pro Tour event receives threat of violence as trans athlete participates

Story by Karleigh Webb (22 April 2024)

This weekend's Disc Golf Pro Tour event in Nashville, Tenn., the Music City Open, saw play suspended for nearly two hours during second-round play Saturday while Nashville police investigated a threat against the event.

A statement from the DGPT said that a call came into the site of the event that stated there would be "a threat of potential violence against a competitor at this weekend's tournament."

The second round was completed but with a higher level of security on the grounds. Among those who received additional security was Natalie Ryan, a transgender woman who is a tour regular who fought a year-long legal battle over her eligibility to compete.

Ryan later confirmed via Instagram that she was one of those threatened along with the entire tournament.

"I've dealt with threats to myself through my career, but today was different. Today someone called in a threat of violence against myself and potentially the other players, staff, and spectators," she said.

"This threat is a perfect example of what happens when extreme views are tolerated in a community. Tolerating and including folks with extreme views, like today's caller, breed these threats. Continuing to use language that makes these people feel comfortable and valid will only make our situation worse."

Louisiana tells schools to just ignore Joe Biden's new trans-inclusive Title IX rules

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/louisiana-tells-schools-to-just-ignore-joe-biden-s-new-trans-inclusive-title-ix-rules/ar-AA1nvV16?ocid=windirect&cvid=3b9a1f4701514b2b857af30d7a6d96ac&ei=35

Story by Daniel Villarreal (23 April 2024)

Louisiana has told the state's public schools to ignore President Joe Biden's newly released Title IX rules prohibiting anti-transgender discrimination that are set to go into effect nationwide on August 1. The state's head of education has hinted at a coming lawsuit against the new rules, and the anti-LGBTQ+ legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) has already agreed to sue.

In a Monday letter, Louisiana Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley said the new rules "likely conflict" with state laws banning trans athletes from playing on sports teams matching their gender identity, even though Biden's new rules don't mention trans athletes.

Brumley also said the new rules "likely conflict" with two bills in the legislature: one allowing teachers to misgender and deadname trans students, and a second forbidding discussion of LGBTQ+ issues in all grade levels, WVUE-DT reported.

"Brumley has made it very clear through his actions and through his letters that his concern for LGBTQ students is nil," SarahJane Guidry, executive director of the state LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, the Forum for Equality, told the aforementioned news station. "With such a small population of youth being impacted by this, but so harshly and so harmfully, it really goes to question what the motives of these legislators and this administration really is."

My question was whether she's ever been near when someone addressed you as female, and if so, did she react? I ask because the people who've only seen daily, ever-so-slight, incremental change often miss the accumulative, big change.

Back when I was still presenting as male, I attended a workshop with a colleague. Other than her, everyone was else was seeing me for the first time and saw me as female, even though I was presenting as male.

Off to the side, "They see me as female."

"Nah," she replied.

"Just listen," I said.

So, she did, and she heard "she" and "her."

She was astonished. She couldn't see it, i.e. the change in me, but she heard the change in others and understood that they saw it.

I'm wondering if your wife has had a similar experience, because when my colleague did, to the best of her ability, she looked at me anew.

Hi Gina,

Good on getting a rototiller and being able to fix it!

I just fixed my garden hoses so I don't have a dissimilar metal issues causing the fittings to stick together.

I use a drain spade for gardening.  The narrow blade requires a lot less work!
I've learned to garden while squatting so I don't have to bend over to dig out shrubs.

I suppose so, I suppose so.

Or... maybe there is a part of me that likes leaving that little bit of hope alive that it won't turn into a raging fire... 🤔

But let's face it, the contents of any dumpster is gonna light.

And since gas will let you get on with your day a lot faster, I so do like your style... 😘
