Hi everyone, my name is Bernadette, I've only just begun my transition to being the girl i always knew i was. i expect its a familiar story, ever since i was little I've wished i was a girl, my mum used to get upset with people who saw mw as a child when they would say "what a pretty little girl".
My problem is i have left it soooooo long to finally admit to myself that this isn't something i can hide anymore, i was convinced i could that for my whole life, but i can't, and i was frightened of loosing my family, but Bernadette is here to stay and I'm so happy, but scared too. i came out to my best friend over the weekend, i almost threw up with nerves, they were very kind and supportive which was a massive relief, i know its going to be the same for everyone i tell but i have to do this, i don't have a choice. i hope to make new friends on this site and to offer support and a shoulder to cry on as well. Id love you to come and say hi.

Your friend is indeed the best type of friend we can hope for - completely supportive of who you really are. I bet as time goes on you will be surprised how many people around you immediately accept and respect you as someone who defines the best things in life on your own terms and then achieves it. I can relate to the nervousness you describe... coming out to two people in particular (my parents (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,226090.0.html)) was one of the most difficult things I have done. And so worth it.

I dealt with repressed feelings from puberty until a month ago and they are repressed no longer! Congratulations on taking your own steps. You are absolutely correct, you HAVE to do this, otherwise it is just going to eat you alive. The ladies here are very helpful, warm and accepting. Please ask us anything and someone knowledgeable will chime in.

Welcome Bernadette! I'm Jessica. Most folk, be they friend or family, if they love and respect you, chances are they will accept you. The ones that don't, didn't have your best interests at heart in the first place. Today's society is in flux. Even though it seems to be sliding backwards with today's politics, but society on a whole is moving forward much faster.

Repression kept me from my true gender for 40+ years. Happy but scared - you certainly sum up how I felt after breaking through, and truth be told, I still am scared sometimes. But, mostly happy, in a deeper & more real way than ever before.
