Title: "Vox Importantea" - some of my music
Post by: Candi.Krol on November 15, 2015, 08:04:50 PM
Hi :)
I've played music for years, released a few CDs and took some time off. I'm just finding my voice again, now with a new trans perspective :D
I'd like to share this first solo piece I did for voice, e-bow and guitar...
it's in a modern classical vein, I use my voice natural along with a vocoder (to trigger the guitar) and the e-bow is a small hand held thing that vibrates the strings of the guitar with a small electro magnate. all this into a looper peddle, so I am adding new layers with each pass.

hopefully someone likes it :D

Wow! I'm impressed. It sounds like you may have studied the Holy Minimalists; Arvo Part, John Tavener, and Henryk Gorecki.

In the first 16 measure double period, I can hear the same period repeated twice, with different resolutions. Then in the antecedent sections, it sounds like you modulate in order to exploit your lower, and then your upper range (I take it as the exterior and then the interior self crying out). I then lose track of what is going on in the loop, which is a good thing because it's obvious you want to create a desolate, meandering, and longing atmosphere. As the loop progresses, I can hear you using the same motif, to anchor the piece, but I will have to listen to it again to figure out exactly how you extrapolate it. I will also have to listen to it again to fully appreciate the interaction between the loop and your layering.

I wish I had time to listen to it again, so I could write more, but I have to go now.

wow, thanks autumn08 :)
there is more thought in your post than some CD reviews I've had lol
yes, I love Arvo Part, who I discovered by the way of Ligeti.

I'm working on another one more "string" based, as well as finding my new sound / direction (other than this atmospheric experimental stuff). :)

Good luck with your new piece! If you post it here, I will make time to give a more coherent and thorough review. Also, if you ever feel like talking about any of your compositions, or finding your new sound/direction, I would love to converse.  :)
