Title: Do you feel younger after transition?
Post by: PurpleWolf on December 17, 2017, 06:28:58 PM

Did going on hormones/transitioning made you feel you kind of started a new life/chapter in your life? Did that make you feel younger? Do you look younger now? More energetic maybe? Full of life? Do you feel you are living again your youth/teenage years/the life you were supposed to have years ago?

Do you think you look younger?

It seems looking at those pre/after pics that many people look strikingly younger/more full of life afterwards!

Or did you have the opposite effect,  ;)? Like on T? Did that make you look older than you used to look? (I mean - many trans guys look like teenage boys more like.)

I'd hate if that happened to me  ;D! I wanna stay young forever!!!

I'm not on T yet so I can't answer for appearance on T but I have never felt my age. I am almost 40 but I feel more like I'm in my late 20s... and I tend to act like it too...

I look younger, due to the baby-faced trans guy effect mentioned in the OP. But I feel older. With the dysphoria and anxiety eased, this is the first time I've felt able to really take charge of my life like a grown adult should.

I would yes positively to this one wolf!!!! When the hormones started to kick in, it did make me feel younger, but I think like you mentioned it was more of I am living how I want to live life. I am also around a young crowd so makes me feel young. It has definitely made me feel more myself and outwardly gives me a glow, like a pregnant woman (no I am not saying I am pregnant, lol). I think it is that we are more full of life because we are living how we want.

Everyone who learns how old I am says there is no way I look my age. Before HRT I was looking my age and then some. Even the person at the checkout of the supermarket look twice when I bought a bottle of cider. E smooths out wrinkles and makes skin look and feel healthier.

Well I now have the alcohol tolerance of a 19 year old instead of a 30 something so that's awesome.

Seriously, I don't feel younger mentally, but in body I do because T gives more energy and heals me up faster and helps with motivation which is like being younger.

I've been getting a lot of comments from the GIC docs about looking young for my age. They all think I'm 25 and not 38. It seems to be something they think I have an issue with for looking potentially boyish I suppose. Honestly I don't care if I look young or old at this point. They do say if you're one of those youthful looking types you'll look like a boy right up until one day, wham, you'd suddenly resemble an old man. Whatever. I'm not too concerned. I usually find a way to get what I want regardless of my looks.

I have always felt like I was 17.  It's a bit of a shock to look in the mirror and see that I'm not.

On the subject of looks, however, I had my ID rejected at the bank because my records (correctly) said I was 62 and the teller didn't believe I was.  I should have asked her how old she thought I was.  (I couldn't do that without feeling like I was in an Oil of Olay commercial!)  She apologized profusely when I corrected her, but I told her that she had just made my day!  :D

I have since asked others how old I look and they guessed late 40s.

No not at all. I feel my age. The last year I've actually felt like I would be 19 forever. I will be 20 in February which I'm looking forward to. But I still have 14 months before I'm 21. Which does suck. I don't drink and don't care about drinking, I would just like to be able to go to a club with Tristan. Technically I am still a teenager until February but I really hate being referred to as teenage. I feel older than that. As for looking younger I've seen some amazing looking older women here that don't look their age at all. But I totally hope hrt isn't making me look younger. People already think I'm younger than I am which sucks. That could be genetics though. My parents are both 39 but they could easily pass for 34-35 years old. I guess I will appreciate looking younger when I'm older but it sucks now.

Hello Purple Wolf,

You can put me down as a Yes!

Transition itself is a very inward facing journey... It requires a period of intense concentration on self but, on the other side of the process, We turn our attention outward once again and see the world through new eyes... In many ways, like a child seeing it all for the first time... Everything, even the familiar can feel new... Our feelings... How we relate to others and the world around us...Everything about our life is viewed through a new lens.....

This is the part of the process where we realize what all the struggle was about... When we set off to carve out our place in the world and make a new life, finally our own...

Onward we go!!!!

Ashley 😀❤️🌻

Transitioning or better yet, just realizing that I am Tia Anne has freed me from the iron constraints of my old life. Being able to laugh and feel and cry has taken decades off of my soul and yes, that definitely shows in my face, spirit and vitality.

By the way, my current picture is two weeks post op at sixty nine and a half years of age (yes I am still counting in partial years, won't give up a day without a fight), in my old life I looked a lot closer to my age.

Still feel 19, I'm 60 but look early 40s. Long hair, punk rock, drainpipe jeans, leather jacket, army boots, bikes, braces on my teeth just like being a teenager again

I always get carded going places even if my friends aren't. I'm 27 so it's kind of annoying because I don't think it's a compliment to be carded it offends me lol
My ID has a big fat M on it so maybe that's why I'm self concious about it.

I stopped being carded as female recently but then started being carded again as male. It amuses me being born in the 70s and still being asked if I'm legal to buy so much as some razors. Well, not the buying razors part, asking for proof of age for those is just dumb. Especially when they only ever seem to ask the dudes.

I feel much older.  That said, my transition has been a long, drawn-out process and I actually am a good bit older.  Additionally, I have been in relatively bad health for the last year.  Hopefully I'll be well again soon and get that spring back in my step.

I've always looked about 5 year younger than I am. Since starting hormones, I look about 10 years younger than I am. I have less energy because of the lack of testosterone, but I'm happier.

Short answer: yes. I look younger than my age and I'm in a place in my life where I'm completely starting over (going back to school and switching careers). But there's shades of Captain Kirk's "I feel young" at the end of Star Trek II. All the certainties of his life have been destroyed. I'm coming off a long term relationship with someone I thought was cool and hip and queer and kind but who is actually a >-bleeped-< and a covert narcissist who convinced/coerced me into destroying my career and delaying my transition (as well as giving up most of my friends and hating myself). Trying to put that all behind me. I'm literally scared to date or hook up with anyone because I messed up so bad with her. (It was only supposed to be a casual FWB situation but in a few years I moved in with her, she broke up with her other partner and we even got married. WTF. And living with her was miserable from start to finish. Low self esteem is a doozy.)

The good thing about blowing up my career is that I can actually conceal my trans status to a degree going forward. I don't want being trans to be the first thing people know about me. I don't want to be misgendered any more.

I could be depressed at turning 60. So many my age are gearing down their lives. Me, I am invigorated by living as a woman. I am only 2 years old in my genuine life. I try to cherish everyday, well, unless I'm sick. As for how I look, I don't think I look my age. I had some surgery so that is cheating as far as what you are asking. Hope I look as good as Anne Blake in a couple of years.

Feel younger?  Yup
Look younger?  Yup. I've been told I dropped 30 years in appearance.

I may be physically weaker through the HRT and loss of testosterone, but without the huge weight belt of depression I feel lighter and more energetic. I know I am
I'm better shape.

Pre-HRT I was told I looked like I was 15-17 years old (at age 20).

Now I'm told I look my age (but could pass for someone as young as 19). I'll be turning 23 in January.

Moni - I first thought you must be around Laurie's age coz you joke around and are good friends seemingly - but then I thought nah, that can't be... Seeing that current pic I was certain you were more like 40  ;D!!! I thought I must have been badly mistaken for calling you an auntie...! That should make you even happier, right,  ;D!

Now you can live your other half of your life as yourself,  ;D! So do not slow down - ever!
