Post by: CodyLevi on November 04, 2017, 05:46:02 PM
i am fourteen and live in Georgia, i am looking to get top surgery asap.Ive been on Testosterone for 4 months!!and have been publicly living as male for a year and a half. My dysphoria is really bad and causes severe menatal health issues which is why everyone is on my side for surgery. my pchychiastrist, therapist, physician, and mom (full custody). does anyone know of surgeons that will perform on minors in the south?

Have you actually spoken with any surgeons yet? I did a quick google, and found that breast reduction for minors is surprisingly common (at least surprising to me), so maybe it won't be a big issue to find someone willing. (Though I'd still wait for some FTMs to weigh in, I know nothing besides what google seemed to tell me two minutes ago.)

On the more general issue of finding trans friendly surgeons, look to the Atlanta area if you can't find any around you.

Good luck! I am in GA too, and know that outside of the Atlanta area it can be difficult to find the care you need.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I don't have an answer for you but it may be difficult to find a surgeon in your area so you should consider traveling. I have moved your thread to an area where you are more likely to get a response. Good luck in your search.

Hey there!

In Savannah GA, there is Dr. Most. I've seen a few results from him in the FTM/NB/GNC Top Surgery Facebook group and highly recommend you join if you want to see lots of results from different surgeons! I believe there's a surgeon in Atlanta but I don't know their name.

I saw Dr. Keelee MacPhee in Raleigh, NC and am very happy. She operates on informed consent and from my interactions, I think she'd at the very least consider it with parent and therapist support, but you'd have to ask. There's also Dr. Hope Sherie in Charlotte, NC and Dr. Eric Emerson, I think in Gastonia, NC.

I highly recommend that facebook group I mentioned above, you can search locations and other tags in order to get specific answers, or post in the group! I've had TONS of specific questions answered there. You just have to send a join request and maybe answer some questions, I don't remember the process exactly to get in.

I don't know for sure the minor policy on most of those doctors, but I'm sure you can send them an email or a quick call and ask about it! I know surgery for minors is becoming more common. Personally, I don't know of any east coast guys who got it before 16, but I know of a couple west coast guys who got it around 14/15 so times are definitely changing and hopefully that mindset is spreading over here.

I'm in no way a professional, but from what I know breasts still grow at age of 14, even if you take T, you're taking it really short and probably did not balance out the hormones very well yet. It would be of more use, in my opinion, to wait until they are grown out, unless you want to have several surgeries. A good binder should work for the time in between. Of course lots of surgeons will operate you enthusiastically, because in truth they just want their money... Or as a source claims:  "Breast reduction usually is delayed until the breasts have reached full development. " (healthychildren.org)
