Legal Matters / Who can and can't see my deadn...
Last post by JackintheBox - Today at 11:22:39 AM
Hey folks, I'm new here and created my account just to ask this. I'm having a really hard time finding information online.

I was born in and currently live in Michigan. In January of 2023, at the age of 18, I had my name and gender legally changed on everything I had. My ID, my birth certificate, my SSN profile, and my high school records before I got my diploma. I didn't have a driver's license at the time and because I was under 22yo I didn't need to give finger prints. I also have a clean criminal record. Sadly, I did have to publish a newspaper about my court hearing, but it didn't share any details other than the date and my deadname (which was my legal name at the time).

I'm currently 19yo and I've done a lot to remain as stealth as possible. However, one of my fears is someone finding out my deadname. It's obviously a very feminine girl's name, I couldn't play it off as a name I changed just because I hated it. Who can and can't see it? I figured government officials can obviously see it, but can cops see it just by running my plates? Can employers see it when running a background check? Can the public see it by looking at public records?

I've tried using free background check services and have yet to find anything. But I'm unsure how much better paid background checks are. I used the official Michigan public records search, but it doesn't allow for name change records to be shown. So I'm at a loss. I'd like to just live a normal life without my past coming to haunt me. Is there a way I can get my name change records sealed in Michigan?

Couldn't agree more.

However, a) not much I can do about what they've already done and b) everything they are doing is so much being done out of love and and excess of exuberance... it feels awful to criticize it.

But it does need to be curtailed, it's just a tough needle to thread.

Here's the (edited) version of the text I just sent them:

Hello charter members of the Circle of Trust 😉😘 Couple of quick updates as I have just returned from my weekly electrolysis session (or "doctor's appointment" or "getting lab work done" to all my friends - can't wait until THAT weekly deception can end! I think they all think there's something wrong with my blood! 😂) Anyway - just a reminder of our plan: we are telling [my wife's]family this weekend, and then hopefully our friends next week. So while I know you may be sharing this with your closest friends (who are basically family at this point anyway) and that's great, I just want to make sure that when you're doing so that THEY know as well that this isn't public yet and it's a close hold.  Our biggest concern would be someone finding out before we get a chance to tell them. Would hate that to happen. Especially for folks who could run into people like my friends or their parents. I'm certain you knew all this but hope you don't mind me just making certain! Love you!

That was the shot I decided to take. Maybe it wasn't forceful enough, but I am hopeful it will at least resonate.

I'm an 'activist' insofar that I came out, transitioned, work and live my life as myself in the same area that people have known me for 50 years now, 6+ as 'me'. So people had the chance to see it all first hand.

I don't force an issue. I don't run around with a chip on my shoulder. If people ask and are willing to listen then I'm willing to answer - within reason. Education one person at a time.

If I'm wronged, I gauge the pros and cons about doing something about it. Bathroom issue at work? I stood up for it. Bathroom issue at a private club? I stopped going. If people asked, I told them why.

the only real issue(s) I have with people asking questions is, 1) they saw me as trans (disheartening) or 2) someone told them (pisses me off).

I was asked once if I was always a woman I replied simple, "yes." the fact that I wasn't aware of it for the first 57 years of my life is none of their business.

Other veterans in my support group have stated this exactly. We don't want to get militant or political. We want to be left alone so we can get on with our lives.

I prefer to get militant and political so young people don't have to. I'd rather have someone bring their issues up with me than have them bully a teenager.

Hormone replacement therapy / Re: Patches

Mylan offers the once-a-week. I didn't like them because they didn't seem to last the whole week. My levels were rollercoastering, so doc changed to twice a week to even things out.

I'm not sure I can tell a peak from a trough.  I use two patches changing every 3rd day (72hours).  ESTRADIOL 0.1MG/DAY (EQV-VIVELLE-DOT) APPLY 2 PATCHES TO AREA OF THE SKIN EVERY SEVENTY-TWO (72) HOURS FOR HRT. TOTAL EVERY DAY DOSE 200MCG EVERY DAY.  I noticed a sister said they changed only once a week?  I didn't think there was an option for that, what brand?
