Title: Hormone levels early on in HRT affecting facial hair?
Post by: Sluggy on March 18, 2017, 07:29:42 PM
Hi all! I'm new to the forums and HRT.

I started Spironolactone and Estradial just about 2 weeks ago, so I'm still very early on and understand I'm not likely to see any effects yet.
However, I did notice that I've been needing to shave my face more?

I barely had much facial hair to begin with, and usually only can shave once every other day.
I feel like it's probably just environmental factors I.E. more exercise, or maybe the hair just appears more prominent because it's falling out from laser removal?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Welcome to Susan's Place. While some of the other blockers have been reported to cause a temporary increase in facial hair growth, I think I may have heard it only once with Spiro. Because you are receiving laser hair removal, that is the more likely cause as the body need to expel the hair and it may do it at a faster rate than the normal growth rate. As for effects, you may be feeling the mental effects by now and a couple of more weeks and you should start complaining about your chest. It may not be anything that shows for a while but you will know that you are on your way.

It is likely part of the laser treatments effects.  I have been doing research while trying to find someplace for facial hair removal for me, and it is mentioned that several days to a couple weeks after a treatment the hair would appear to grow faster as the body expelled the dead hair.  The Spiro has not had that effect on me, but YMMV, and it is not one of the potential side effects listed.

There are reports of laser actually stimulating new hair growth in places where there was none or where vellus hairs were only present.
