Is there a an abbreviations and technical term knowledge base? If there ain't one, there should be. It would be mighty helpful to us new folks to the forum. In other words, what does FFS, VFS, and GCS stand for? Same with terms like pansexual. Users tend to want to get answers from the forum (that they are on) than from external sources (links).

In general, when I am writing a post, I use the full name for something the first time and the acronym for subsequent references within a post. It's the teacher/writer training at work...
That is, I will write Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS), Voice Feminization Surgery (VFS), or Gender Confirmation Surgery (GCS) the first time in a post or article, and subsequent references in the article will use the acronyms FFS, VFS, or GCS. It's an easy habit to develop. Even better, some smarter authoring and tech writing software can do this automatically the first time it sees the acronym. Web sites, not so much... ;)

Thank you so much, Michelle! I actually poked around the Wiki, a bit too early in the wee morning hours, and could not find it. I used to be the Administrator on a auto enthusiast website and abbreviations and tech term Knowledge Base was the sticky right below the "Hey thanks for signing up, now here are the rules" permanent sticky. ;D I have been doing my homework for my therapist as I have been unaware of changes, advancements, and comprehension have been made in the past 30 years. I am way behind the curve. I am supposed to be discovering who Britney is. The more I learn, the more confused I am getting. ???

There has been an enormous amount learned over the past 30 years about the nature and treatment of transgender persons. A vast amount of knowledge about the medical side have been developed in the past 10 years, and is only now starting to trickle into medical care for us. We are living through a generational shift in treatment and understanding, truely a remarkable time.
Yes, it can be quite confusing!
Discovering yourself , never mind the outside discoveries, is quite a task. I was fortunate to have a good gender therapist, and decided early on to just be brutally honest about myself, and pay attention to the questions asked of me and my own answers.

Will do. I am awaiting the VA Red Tape Tango to start my HRT. Hey, I know that one! ::) I sort of circumvented their entire DSM-5 "business" model. Did I mention that I absolutely loathe red tape? I dealt with of it in the Navy with that Tricare farce. Great for the Dependents, an absolute nightmare for the Service man or woman. Anyway, I wanted to wait till I got my HRT approval to make my formal introduction. I am on too much of a roller coaster at this moment. Till then, I have 100 pages of 'Danielle, Huntress Unleashed' to peruse. 8)

Note though that it is also already right on the main menu at the Wiki. It would be helpful for that really long abbreviation that Michelle P posted today (LGBTQQIA2SPM+) to be added to the list of abbreviations. What does that mean Michelle?

Good question, I got on this ASAP. ;) It turns out that ABV (alcohol by volume) is already taken..OOS (out of service) ;) ... I find this intolerable...FUBAR if you will...a real SNAFU. :laugh:

While I have an absolute angel for a Mental Health Therapist at the VA that works with gender issues (becoming more prevalent in the Military/Vets), I came to them with most of the questions answered, who I am and what I need to be complete all figured out. 50 years of repressing myself, not out of shame or that I was broke, but just a complete lack of understanding when I was younger. I started piecing things together over the past 2 decades. Unfortunately, I just became too comfortable in my male skin and just accepted it as my random lot in life. Same with my Naval career ending, life on the skids Service Related Injury that has left me agonizing nerve pain and short term memory problems for the rest of my life. When I turned 50, I decided enough is enough and told caution and his pal, inhibition, to go take a flying leap. Time to put into motion what I have been postulating, contemplating and accepting for those 2 decades. I skipped the traditional VA therapy and went straight to the transgender care group. Once the therapist agreed that I was a transgender female I skillfully requested that she put in for my Primary Care Doctor to be switched to another Primary Care Doctor who exclusively sees transgender patients and is a transgender herself. While that did not cut out the required psychiatrist workup, it drastically shortened the time as the new Primary Doctor prequalified me as transgender female and set me up with a specific psychiatrist that she knows and works with. With the Primary Doctor's recommendation for HRT, the Psych Doc will push me right past the red tape! Sometimes, it pays not to follow the rules....only sometimes, though. I will also not be required to see an Endocrinologist, as the Primary will be handling my regime and can order any labs that need to be done. I already gave my baseline. I am so stoked, but at the same time overly anxious and apprehensive. Thanks for your support. Hope to be a good contributor someday soon.

Thank goodness! I was stuck on the math problem; "What is the sum when 4 is added to 6?". I kept giving it Common Core answers and it simply would not take them. :P
