Hi everyone. So last night the doorbell rings and there's this girl looking for Tyler. Apparently she's his latest flavor of the month. He told her he thought she had to work and she said she did but work was boring so she ditched and wanted them to go out and do something. So Tyler goes to take a shower and this girl comes into the living room and sits with Tristan and I. She's typical of Tyler's type. Blonde, very pretty and big boobs. No sooner than she sat down she asked me " OMG, why are you so pale??" Sigh.... I told her because I had albinism. She asked what albinism was so I explained it to her. She said " OMG, how did you catch that?". I told her it was a genetic disorder and that I had been born with it. From the blank look she had I'm pretty sure she didn't know what genetic meant either. Then she said " so I guess you can't be in sunlight. So do you just like sleep during the day and just do stuff at night then?". I told her yes I slept during the day in a coffin in the basement. Then she says " oh, so you're like a goth then?". LOL! I've never met anyone who was too dumb to understand blatant sarcasm! I think Tristan was afraid I would say something nasty because he changed the subject. So after a couple of minutes she asked him where he was from. He told her Australia. She said that was really cool but that she could never live like that and she bet he was glad to be in the USA. He asked her live like what and she said out in the wilderness. Then she said she'd seen some nature specials about the outback and it was all just like the wilderness. Tristan said yes, but that was the outback and he was from Perth which was a huge city. She said she didn't realize Australia had cities like the USA. LOL! He told her they had indoor plumbing and everything. Lol. So then a few minutes later she tells me I should look into a tanning bed. I told her a tanning bed used UV light. She said " yeah, but it's not sunlight so it should work on you". Sadly she's not the first person to say that very same thing to me. So she talked about her job a little but was staring holes through me. Finally she said " I could swear your eyes are glowing". I told her it was from my albinism and she says " oh you caught it in your eyes too. That's awful". Thank god Tyler came and got her and they left.
Tristan and I just laughed for a couple of minutes. How does someone that utterly stupid even survive? ? I mean it's a miracle she hasn't managed to accidently kill herself through stupidity. In any other person I would have taken the stupid questions about my albinism as an insult. But I could tell this girl actually was that dumb! How does that even happen?? Is there like a stupidity epidemic going around??

People are so stupid. There was a girl at school with cancer and some people actually didn't want to sit near her because they were afraid of catching it. Thank god you can't catch stupidity or the human race would be doomed!

Then say that it's all not that bad as you have a great nightlife and get to drink all the blood you want but prefer someone who's just eaten spicy food because it tastes better :) And that it made you a Transpire!

That's hilarious. Lol. I don't know why people tend to associate albinism with vampires. That and cold weather. Many people have asked if I like the cold or assumed I have some super tolerance to it. I hate the cold! People have also asked if I can see in the dark! I realize my natural eye color is strange but night vision? Really? Lol.

Seriously... I've met a few people like that. I can't even deal with them for more than 30 seconds. I'd just have to go find something else more intellectually stimulating to do... like count blades of grass or something.
I don't think anyone is inherently stupid. Some are very uneducated, but that isn't the same thing. Some people get by on their looks. By living a certain way. I don't think that's stupid. I just think some people are happy to do that, and don't feel the need to learn anything. But then in their own little circle, they don't need to. Because it doesn't matter whether they know if there are big cities in Australia or not. It doesn't affect them on a day to day basis.
I don't think it's stupidity as much as it is being self absorbed and only focused on their own world. People see vampire movies, where a lot are portrayed as very pale,with white hair (look at Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and just don't know any different. It's an aesthetic that a lot of movies and TV go for, to portray a life lived without sunlight. However much or little truth there is to it, that's the kind of thing people can be exposed to. It's not hard to make the leap for someone who's never met someone with Albinism and just doesn't know any better.
As for cold weather, I believe it's to do with the physical appearance of Nordic/Scandinavian people, a lot of whom live in colder climates. Being seen as blonde and pale skinned. Again, movies and television have a lot to answer for with this. They push this imagery on people.
This girl sounds like she probably gets a lot of her information from movies, or TV. Rather than actually learning anything. So while it has no basis in reality, I don't think she's being intentionally dumb. Someone I used to work with didn't know how to put petrol in a car. Literally had no idea. Because she lived with her parents and never had to do it. She had no clue what a petrol cap was, and just stared at the hose at a filling station with a completely bemused expression.
People know what they know, and don't know what they don't. I would give her the benefit of the doubt, Julia. In her world, you might not know things that she would consider rudimentary.

I know that this is an old thread but it is a classic. For newer members and for Julia-starved fans, I think that it is well worth airing again.
Honestly, it sounds like Tyler likes them blond and stupid so he can have sex with them a few times and then go onto the next one. No offense to your blond brother.
But really, I think they breed them that way for looks. Breeding for brains takes extra effort. :D

I knew a guy in college who thought that Alaska was an island. You know, because it's always by itself on the side of the map.
I knew a different guy who never paid attention in our accounting class and was always behind because of it, one time he straight up fell asleep for the latter half of the class with his face in his book and didn't wake up until the lecture was over. He was surprised the next class day when he discovered that homework was due, which he did not complete because he was not awake when it was mentioned in class. We were always given homework every day that we had that class, so I don't know why he assumed we had no homework just because he was asleep.

That would be incorrect. Julia was here as late as yesterday. I don't know but I suspect she has something much different on her mind at the moment. Just about now she should be busy dealing with her GCS and probably has more important things than the forum on her mind at the moment.

This is the first time I have seen a Julia post immediately on top of a Charlie post. Based on the avatar pictures, I am now certain they are sisters. Perhaps separated a birth. But sisters none the less. From the same super-model parents.

Not missing exactly, just spending time developing a routine with some self care and meditation in it, as a part of my therapy, that means much fewer hours on here :( and longer term, fewer pills for me :) yay.
I am reading/ listening though, of that you can be sure...
