Title: How long would it take to get a full beard from T?
Post by: Jake25 on June 02, 2015, 08:31:17 PM
I haven't even started hormones yet and am so eager to grow a full beard. I know it will take time. Would it take some sort of hair growth stuff to help it along as well as the hormones? Post your methods. Any other trans men want to tell me how long it took them to grow an acutal beard, show pictures if you have them?

There is no set time frame. Some guys have respectable facial hair in only six months and some it takes years for a full beard to come in. It's all genetics. Some may not even develop a full beard.

I've heard of some people using minoxodil (Rogaine) to speed up growth, but I'm a little iffy on that process. It's only recommended if you've been on T for a long enough period for your body to grow the hair on it's own and you're not happy with the growth that you have. I've heard of the results some have gained going back to what they had prior to starting once they stopped tho.

Me personally, I'm at 10 months on T, and I barely have anything. I know it's in my genetics to get a full beard; men on both sides of my family have super thick beards/ mustaches and my brother could grow a good beard if he wanted to.
I have a few hairs that are darkening up in my sideburns and neck region, but this is basically all I have, about a week after trimming it down. Trust me, I'm very eager for a beard too. Everyday I hope for more hair... But it all seems to be going to my legs and ass and sadly not to my face :/ haha

I already have a mustache like yours without the T. I've had it ever since I started puberty as a girl. I used to wax it until I realized I'd be happier as a man.

Like Aero said, it's all genetics. Literally no one on this forum could give you a definite answer. I've known guys 7 months in with not a hint of facial hair, while I have a considerable prepubescent neckbeard/chin scruff combo if I let it grow. Not like, thick enough to make me pass instantly, but it's a start. My sideburns have also come in fairly well, considering my timeline on T.

The hair started growing extremely quickly on T—two days in and my cheek hair had grown out like crazy. It stayed blond fluff for a number of months, and now it's slowly darkening and thickening up as I get further into HRT. Gimme a minute and I'll post some pics I took in an edit, of where I am as of today.

EDIT: As promised, here's pics! Note that I trimmed back everything about a week ago with a length 3 clipper comb guard, so it's not *as* impressive as it was, but it's had time to fill in a bit. I'd show my stache but I shaved that sucker off, but you should be able to see it a little in my profile pic. It wasn't super impressive, anyway.

Sideburns!

"Beard"! As you can see on the sides of my jawline and stuff, I have a lot of blonde fluff that will likely become actual respectable facial hair within my first year on timeline, but we'll see! That fluff pretty much lines my entire face/jawline from sideburn to sideburn.

You look very handsome. I hope you're able to grow a beard.

It can take anywhere from months to even years. I apparently fall into the latter category having been almost three years on T and still waiting for something significant. I can grow a terrible pedo stache just to annoy my fiancée and look like an untidy nerd guy.

I don't even know what kinda facial hair is in my genes. I don't know my father and my mom's father always had his face shaved or just some stubble so that's not much of an indicator.

But that's how it's for me so I might just as well rock it so pedostached nerd it is.

If it's genetic than that's a good sign for me, all the men in both sides of my family were able to grow full beards.

According to my physician it'll take 4-6 years to actualize your hair growth potential. However I've heard from other people that you never stop continuing to get new or thicker hair as you age, in the same way that cis men can get hairier as they get older.

I admire those old hairy men.

I've been on T for 7 month and I have a light moustache and chin stubble. my father wasn't a hairy man, but ironically the women in my family are very hairy lol. I use biotin to help mines along. my doctor is actually increasing my dosage to help aid in the process.

The most typical answer you hear is 5 years for a full beard.

You also hear that it is genetics.  Both sides of my family had no problems with growing beards and my mother said that my father was hairy all over at age 18.  Here I am 8 months on T (the majority of it lower dose, though), and I only get hair on my upper lip (I shave it every week.  I assume it would only be a pedo stache).

Also, except for a bit of hair on my ankles, I have had no hair growth, anywhere.  So genetics may determine how hairy we eventually become, but maybe that doesn't mean how quickly one gets hair is in the genetics.  I haven't sought out any research on that, however.

I actually emailed my T provider yesterday asking to increase my dose due to no hair.  However, it is not a huge deal to me because I would still be shaving all the time anyway, as hair growing in here and there on my face isn't something I could have at my office job.  Until I have something solid growing in, I will just have to shave.

I don't see myself rocking the "neck beard" anyway.  To me, personally, that screams adolescence and since I am 45 years old, I can't really be doing that.

I've been on T for four years now and have a full beard, I definately lucked out with having Itallian hair gene's. I already had quite a bit of facial hair pre T but after a year it really started to fill in.
I'll send out happy beard thoughts your way!

Also my beard is still getting thicker so the 4-6 years for beard growth sounds pretty accurate.
