Title: Opinions on Dr Medalie
Post by: Jasonk16 on December 06, 2008, 08:09:43 PM
I'm not anywhere close to being able to have chest surgery but I'd like to pick a surgeon and I wanna try and stay as close to home as I can.

Any Opinions on Dr Medalie in Ohio?

He seems to be quite liberal on who he'll perform keyhole on, requiring many folks to go back for revisions.

Dont know if you have done them yet, as this post is 30 days out, but I myself would  find out how many TS  he has done and see as many post pics as possible.   I am going on a consult, which is free in Sarnia, ON to see a Dr. Kaila.  He is the director of Blue Water Surgery Clinic and specializes in breast aug.  I have done alot of research on silicone coheasive implants and they are far better than the regular silicone or saline.  He has done a great deal of TS/TG patients.  I know he may be alittle far, but i  would think worth the travel.  So it might set you back a day in a hotel.  I would worry more about the outcome than travel,  unless it is really far.  Sarnia i would think would  be doable.  You can get more info at http://www.bluewatersurgery.com/ (http://www.bluewatersurgery.com/)  about 98% of the implants they do are the cohesives.  Not trying to sway you, just a suggestion. There are many pros to getting this type of implant.

Whoa, whoa, whoa..... WHOA... Sarnia? That's where I live.

What the heck. Why is it that we have surgery in Sarnia but no therapists? D:

I would think there would be plenty of therapists in Canada..Maybe has something to do with their health care system.?  I know the coheasives have been approved for 2yrs., cause thats what Meltzer's scheduler  told me.  He of course is in AZ and uses the Mentor brand.

Sarnia is relatively small, if you want specialists you have to go to the next city over.

But of course.

I tend to fondly nickname it that myself.

What would you consider "liberal"?  I'm having surgery, oh, TOMORROW... so the faster I can get a response the better.  If I could get one before my consultation that would great.

whered my post go?  O_o

in short, i considered him, but he said no to me.  he had good prices for the work.  nipple placement isnt the best though.

By liberal, I mean that he'll perform keyhole on patients who would not be eligible through any other surgeon.  This results in more revisions (which he, unlike many other surgeons, charges you for) and some wonky-looking results.

he said no? I'm actually really pleased with the nipple placement. my only complaint is that somehow my left nipple ended up slightly bigger than my right. i'm not sure whether this is due to the cutting or the healing. it's only noticeable if you're staring at it though.

I knew what you mean in this regard... The vague idea.  I was just wondering if you had any specifics on what you considered "liberal".

The qualifications for keyhole are pretty clear.  He pushes that boundary.  If you don't know if you should be getting keyhole or not, you should've probably done a little bit more research before you booked your surgery.  I've posted on this topic repeatedly on this forum and the info is available all over the net.

I know I am a 36 B  and I am really too big for a keyhole. I chose a surgeon who is doing DI instead. - As far as what I thought and what I have read is too big for keyhole .

I'm aware, Mister.  You're pretty visible, even with a mostly white (but hilarious) icon.  I have researched the types of surgery and whatnot.  I wouldn't be getting anything done without researching it first.  I merely wondered what you were specifically referring to for Dr. Medalie, not a general definition or qualifications, since that's who we're discussing here.  I didn't know if there were specific mistakes he had made that could be pin-pointed or if it was really that general.

I guess I get to be a guinea pig.  All this talk the day before my surgery is making me REALLY tense so I'm going to go distract myself and not read any more of this until after I'm drugged tomorrow post-op.

He said no to you? Can you explain as to exactly what he said no about and why?

i didnt think his nipple placement was up to par, so i told him id rather have no nipples and then have them tattooed at a later date.  he denied me saying "you dont fit the reasonable template for a transgendered person"

so apparently i wasnt trans enough for medalie.  but its okay, i did some more searching and found a better surgeon for me.
