Title: Guys: Do you use urinals or stalls?
Post by: PurpleWolf on November 18, 2017, 02:19:22 PM
Have you ever tried urinals? How was it? Do you usually pack?

Or do you usually just use the stalls, ;)? Have you ever been self-conscious about peeing in a stall?

Is there any awkward moments you wanna share? Those "just one stall and lots of free urinals" stories... ;)!
---
Personally I don't pack, so... never used an urinal. Actually I avoid public bathrooms altogether... I don't even dare to use the men's room if I feel like I'm totally read as a woman... I have before, though. Now I feel I have to use the women's if I have to... though, to me personally, that feels inappropriate too from my part. But what can you do, ::)?

Oh, I have one awkward experience to share, though,  :D! Once I stopped somewhere while traveling... and was about to step in the men's room. As I opened the door, I saw there were no doors in the stalls :o! And there was this one boy sitting who looked kinda scared :o! I quickly closed the door... and didn't use the bathroom...

One other: I was about 13? Just came out as trans... We were traveling by car with my family and made a bathroom stop. Then, my mom goes in the women's and my dad in the men's. I SO did not want to use the women's with my mom. But was too scared to use the men's with my dad (who did not approve of me) either :-\! I really had to go - but didn't. Result: Severe pain in my stomach in the car for hours... Should have used that bathroom after all! Horrible experience! I begged the driver (a relative) to stop so I could go on the road side. He refused to stop. Totally should have used that bathroom at the gas station :embarrassed:!
This was a learning experience, though: Don't risk your kidneys with your pride, guys!

Stalls, definitely.  I haven't bought a STP yet, not sure I want to.  I'd rather save my money for a pack and play, since the STP I would get is $200.

I usually go into the stall, turn like I'm about to stand and piss as I undo my pants and either put down toilet paper or hover.  Then turn around as I pull my pants up and  refasten my belt.

Fortunately, most cis men don't look under the stall wall to see if you're standing or sitting anyways, since it could be considered "gay," or "threatening."  I do the whole thing simply for my own satisfaction.  One day I'll get a STP, so maybe its practice. [emoji16]

I have my own "holding it" story.  I went out to a local club and after having a few drinks, wanted to use the mens room.  I opened the door, saw the stalls had no doors and mentally said "NOPE!"  I held it for the rest of the night.  Its also why I ended up leaving early, so the bar lost out on me buying any more high-priced drinks too! Stalls, never used a urinal. I have the EZP STP but I rarely use it. I prefer to pack with the Mr Limpy day to day and honestly I'd be terrified of pissing all over my clothes when I was out which causes a lot more anxiety than having to use a cubical. I used to be scared to piss in the stall sitting just because I've been told by some of my mates that cis guys don't go to the stalls to piss but what are they gonna do when they hear me? Wait outside and confront me? Nah. It also used to bother me waiting an age for the only stall but if a guy needs a >-bleeped-< he's gonna wait, and that's what everyone thinks you're there for when you're waiting for a stall (if they even care).

I have many awkward pissing experiences. One of the best imo was I was out drinking with all of my workmates. We got to a club and by this point I was way passed my limit. Bearing in mind I'm stealth so my colleagues think I'm a cis guy. I really needed a piss so ran to the loo and locked myself in the cubicle. Turns out I'd run into the women's and one of my friends was banging on the door telling me to get out but I honestly didn't care, I needed a piss. When I opened the door I fell into her arms and she had to help me wash my hands, all the while two girls were in the corner staring at us asking why a guy was in the women's loos. Bit embarrassing but pretty sure I would have wet myself if I didn't get to that toilet. Drinking makes it go right through you. Definitely be careful drinking.

Same! Though I haven't even tried to use a packer, ever. Sometimes I do wonder what it'd be like to use the urinals... But I'm pretty sure I'd just wet myself,  :o!

BTW, why on hell do bathrooms have stalls but no DOORS in them?!! Whose idea was that?!

Some places do it because they're trying to save money and employee resources. Bathrooms can be fairly expensive to maintain and need to be cleaned pretty frequently in order to function optimally. Some companies, in an effort to curb general wear and tear on their facilities as well as discourage excessive messes, opt to make their restrooms as uncomfortable as possible (which usually means getting down to the bare bones). It works: A lot of people, off-put by the lack of privacy, skip using the restroom and the remainder are much less likely to, say, defecate all over the seat/floor and just walk off.

As far as the other question goes, I'll always opt to use a urinal if it's a single occupant restroom because they're the easiest for me to use. I've been able to stand and piss naturally since I was a kid; unfortunately, I have to pull my pants down just slightly too low to get away with doing it out in the open in a multi-person restroom. I've never been able to control my stream just enough in the last 1-2 seconds to avoid dripping on my pants otherwise.
That said, I usually just go into a stall, loosely shut the door and piss.
The most awkward thing I ever walked in on was a guy standing buck naked and masturbating in a public park bathroom. We shared a very brief moment of eye contact before he turned away and did a really weird, really hilarious 'gallop' off to one of the stalls. I just turned around and left.

When uou use a STP, they say to practice in the shower a number of times first and then use your toilet.

Personally, I love my packer.  Sometimes when I return home from someplace, I'll even wear it around the house.

Stalls only. Sometimes, I go through the awkward anxiety where I feel like I have to do more than just pee if it's pretty crowded and I'm obviously sitting. As I've aged though, I've started to move away from doing that.

I've never been a fan of the prospect of using an STP. I'm *extremely* prone to urinary tract infections so I can't imagine any excess urine not getting immediately dried off would be good for me.

The big thing that helped me was to find out that a lot of guys actually do sit to pee. In fact, one of my cismale friends said he does because he is Muslim and it's sometimes convenient to do so if he wants to be clean for prayer.

Great,  :D!

Yeah... I doubt that anyone really cares (or listens) what you do in a toilet... It's just us, !

i don't pack and i use the stall. i used to be very self conscious about not packing but as i got further in my transition, i stopped caring so much about what people think. i think once i started growing my facial hair and had top surgery, it became less of an issue to use stalls for me. i still want to get an stp but that is more for convenience then for dysphoria about it.

Depends on the place. The only times I've seen it were at a couple music venues. I think the idea was to discourage drug use.

I just prefer stalls.

Something about the more psychologically comfortable position of not standing around exposed with your back to a potential stranger.

Oh good, I'm not the only one that feels that way!

Of course, the fact that I've probably seen WAY too many slasher movies too doesn't help. [emoji6]

I always stand, but I use stalls.
I feel uncomfortable with my anatomy, even is that anatomy is lengthened with something.

Not sure if I´d ever be okay pissing in a urinal next to a cisman. I´m not that fond of physical proximity and much less so in this setting. I wasn´t even fond of sitting in a stall next to someone, back when I had to go to the other room.

I know you pushed this to FTM's but, the same could be asked of us MTF's as well. I would always use the urinal before but, shortly after getting on hormones I used the stalls. I would not use them for the most part before. After a month on e, I would exclusively use the stall in the men's room. It wasn't like a conscience thing I did, just was a natural transition.

That said, how many people use pee funnels?

I usually wait until the stall is free.

A lot of men seem to use STPs (Stand To Pee) devices.  I don't, I simply sit.  Most men don't pay attention anyways, often for fear of being thought of as "gay."  They go in, do their business and leave.

Places like University you learn which bathrooms have more stalls and which bathrooms are less likely to be crowded. Then you plan accordingly. There is at least a bathroom on every floor of a building so if a one stall bathroom is full you can just go to a different floor. Surprisingly some of the older buildings have more stalls than the newer ones.

Usually there is one stall or two in most regular mens' rooms unless it's someplace like a nightclub or airport with tons of people constantly using.

I'm fortunate that the convenience store where I work has single use bathrooms, so I don't have to worry about any strangers coming through.

For day to day bathroom use, I tend to try to time my going when it's emptier so I'm less likely to have run ins (I dont get out much so this is not an issue). I always take a stall so if someone does walk in I can just be standing to them, not sitting.

The way I do it is I pull my pants halfway (or all the way, even if it's going to look weird to people outside) down, I stand directly over the toilet bowl, usually I lean forward so my feet are in front of the bowl but my crotch is directly above it, that way I'm standing but everything is hitting it's mark typically at the rim, gotta be careful to take it slow and not to splash!

I DID go to the concert once and used the men's room, lines were packed, I had to refuse the urinal that opened up and let the guy behind me go but I guess nobody thought anything of it, and if they did they couldnt give more than a passing thought. I had my STP at the time which made that experience super easy to handle, boom, done.

i haven't tried packing yet, nor any stp device, and i don't "pass" to go into the men's room anyway... so i just pray for a gender-neutral restroom or hold it when i'm out in public because i can't stand to go into the ladies' room.

I've always grabbed a stall - why not avail yourself of some privacy?  Even to take a whizz.  But I'm different that way.  Transitioning as I am I do sit down more and more these days, at home especially.

Men have no qualms about using urinals; but they also don't spend time pondering why someone is just urinating while sitting down.  Guys might check out what you're packing, though.  An episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm had Larry and Richard staring in amazement at the well hung guy standing between them.

Don't forget to say not word one.  An article on urinals listed the four types that might speak while you're doing your business:  Friends, Weird Dudes, Weird Dads (weddings), Cell Phone Dudes.   :D  That jibes with my experiences.

Haha! I find it weird that women speak to each other, look at each other etc...!!! (I mean strangers.) Last time I used a public toilet (years ago...), had to line up with the women... (didn't pass!!!), felt absolutely MORTIFIED!!!!!! Wanted so bad to just escape to the men's (plus there wasn't a line at all, of course) - absolutely one of the worst moments of my life... And the women kept looking at me - and spoke to me there,  :o!

The other one I don't grasp is that there are multiple warnings for trans men to NOT use the urinal right next to somebody!!! I'm always like - WHO would do that  :o?!? And not just bcos being trans might make you vulnerable - I mean in general. Who wouldn't want some privacy?? I've heard the same with locker rooms... 'Don't take the locker immediately next to someone; don't talk...' etc.

For those of you who have more experience - I'd like to know if (guy) friends really speak in a bathroom? Or not? And I mean just friends.

Same with swimming halls etc... I just rather imagine no one's paying attention to the fact that you may be naked etc... and not interact with each other!

I've never used a urinal. Using a urinal is such a totally male thing that I never wanted any part of it. Women talk to me in the ladies room all the time. It's just usual female talk. Telling me they like the way I do my eyeliner, asking where I got my boots or other article of clothing, asking if this is the natural color of my hair, etc.  When I still used the guys bathroom no one talked and the men seemed to pretty much ignore each other.  They also did their business and left. They don't spend time in front of the mirror. They seem to want to do what they have to and go. Women definitely spend more time in the bathroom. They check everything in the mirror, adjust their makeup, etc.

Before I transitioned I got a lot of looks in the guy's bathroom. Confused looks, hostile looks, and sometimes a smirk. But surprisingly I never had anyone actually say anything to me. There was one time when I went into the guys bathroom at the mall a few months ago. As a lot of the ladies here know, when you take large doses of spironolactone you pee a lot. Try to ignore the need to pee too long and it suddenly turns into " find a bathroom NOW or wet yourself". I was at that point and the ladies room was out of order. I was still going to use it but they had locked the door! So it was either use the mens room or wet myself. There were 2 guys in there when I went in like a white blur. I don't know what the one guy said but I heard the other one say the ladies room was out of order. They were gone when I came out of the stall thankfully.

Yeah. Once while traveling as a kid my mom took me to the men's room only bcos we were in a such a hurry - and ofc there was a HUGE line to the women's! There was this one man who looked quite confused, but didn't say anything. What I can tell from my scarce experiences, I've gotten those 'confused/half scared' looks from men in the bathroom if I haven't passed that well... But no one has ever said anything to me!

I've also heard said that the guys' room is for 'everyone' - whereas women freak out if a man walks in there. But this might vary in countries/different places.

But at least from my experiences I have a sense trans guys fear in vain to step into the bathroom. Men usually don't talk - and don't say anything. (Even if they thought something.) I haven't got the nerve to step into one, though, if I feel I absolutely do not pass. But I guess even if I did, no one would say anything... probably,  ;).

I'm more scared of the ladies who talk to me there! Always have,  ;D! Like in the swimming hall as a kid... these older women will take the locker just next to you, etc...! And talk!! Even if both parties are naked/half-naked! - I've always felt kind of 'exposed' at those moments  ;D! I just prefer being ignored.... like I wasn't there - especially if nude!

I've always had this 'etiquette' in my mind that in places like swimming halls/locker rooms, where people might be naked & vulnerable, everyone should just mind their own business and pretend not to see other people! Born a guy, I guess,  ;)!

But I can understand how awkward the other men would feel if a trans guy started chatting them in a locker room setting,  ;D!!!

It seems like guys don't really like talking to each other in some situations.  Tyler and my dad were talking about this " weird" guy at the gym. I asked what was weird about him and they said he talked to anyone next to him during his work out. I asked what was weird about that and my brother told me guys don't like talking to each other a lot while they were working out. He said even he and my dad don't talk much when they work out. I thought that was the whole point of going to the gym together! I've said this before, guys are so weird. I will never really understand them. Lol

That happens a lot actually. You have to remember that if women are with a group of friends they go to the bathroom as a group. My friends always go to the public bathrooms with me if they need to pee or not. You are definitely a guy. Lol

Guys seem to be much less talkative in general. Unless it's something that interests them they don't seem to like talking. There have been times when I've been talking to Tyler or Tristan and they are looking at me and even nodding and saying uh-huh but I can totally tell they aren't listening to a word I'm saying.

Maybe all that could be called 'private things you do in a public space'  ;D. Including, but not limited to: using the bathroom, showering, being naked, dressing, working out...

So... like you wanna stay private sorta - and expect everyone else to respect your 'boundaries' by pretending you are invisible! Well, I don't go to the gym so don't have much experience on that, but... I can imagine people just wanna concentrate on what they are doing... And this same unspoken 'rule' applies there too!

Anyone been to the Pomona Fairgrounds in CA. Underneath the grandstand there are restrooms where you go in and pee on the wall.

Stadiums/arenas sometimes have troughs instead of discrete urinals, or toilets with stalls but no door, to curb drug usage and make them easier to clean, supposedly.  Let's not forget the cakes!

???

Urinals have little odor absorbing widgets - urinal cakes.  Talk about a puzzling choice of words.  Although "urinal puck" isn't any better...

Don't forget the urinal toys... splash mats with spinners.  lol

PWolf I have that fear you have about men's rooms but reversed I have only used the ladies room a couple time when the were other women in it. If there was ever a line OMG I would make a U-turn on the spot and be outta there. I went into one for the same reason you related I'd held it so long it was either go into the Walmart Store's ladies room or wet myself. I hurried in past a woman  coming out and ducked into the first stall and prayed I could get away without being discovered. This was just one of my minor adventures on my road trip. The DC area is so full of people it hard to find a private place anywhere.

Hugs,
   Laurie

Favourite urinal story: Last summer I was in Provincetown and the line on the ladies side of the public restrooms was outside. The mens side had no line so in I went. The attendant gave me a long look and watched me go to one of the urinals. On the way out, he looked up at me and I said "Lady at the urinals, it doesn't get any better than that." He grinned like the Cheshire cat and said "No, it doesn't."  ;D

Never mind the fact that I use stalls and sit down. [emoji6]

A+ here. Honestly, my immense hatred of being physically near people helps a lot.
You know those communal tables at some restaurants? I'd rather eat in my car.

I'm going to guess that that the same logic that is used to choose a urinal would be very similar to that which is used to choose a stall. Although there has been the odd occasion were I have walked into a stall and walk straight back out because the previous occupant has left it in a state beyond redemption :o

I don't really get this test at all. I thought it was like rules for using a urinal. I had no idea it makes a difference which one you would use. I got an F, but it's a silly test anyway.

Really, Julia,  :D?
Oh, there are rules!!! The idea is to avoid proximity to the other men as much as possible!
I totally get it  ;D!

I know. Guys have all kinds of silly rules. I didn't know it was like a challenge for a guy to look another guy in the eye. I found out about that from the guys here. And I've observed other equally silly male behavior among my brother and his friends. It really is like watching gorillas sometimes. Im tempted to throw a banana at them and watch them fight over it. Lol.

Depends on the setting. Like I said in that other thread - I felt weirded out by the women that kept actively looking/staring at me in that bathroom waiting line  :o! Mind your own business, ladies  ;D!
