I was interested in the lyrics of Mystery Jets' latest single "Someone Purer".

I first heard the song on the radio and immediately thought he was singing about gender dysphoria - especially its emotional aspects. But looking at the video it seems to point more generally towards connections made between the man's childhood memories and the realisation of his deepening guilt. I imagine most folks would not even make the link between gender dysphoria - probably think it's a bit emo-ish.
Suggestive words and images, all the same - especially the unknown girl running away from the headlights of the car; or the same girl(?) later seen lying (presumably dead) on the road whom he takes back with him in his car...and her final scattered ashes? Does it all point to his repressed feminine side - and him unwittingly killing her in the process? I don't know, it's all very cinematic and the words and images are suggestive enough to read just about anything. Also that line: "Give me rock and roll..". I guess it means he wants redemption, to find his trapped youthful spirit again, which will eventually lead him towards a new found wholeness.. But isn't "rock and roll" also a metaphor for bisexualism? Reminds me of that 80's English band James..
