Title: Minoxidil progress
Post by: virtualverny on December 29, 2017, 07:10:27 PM
hey guys! i thought that since i started minoxidil today (well, yesterday - it's 1am right now) i might as well start my own progress thread, to document how hairy my face hopefully becomes :)
i have a lot of peach fuzz, but i'm going to leave it and hope that it will grow out and darken as i continue to apply minox. i'm applying it on my beard area, my upper neck, my eyebrows and the gap inbetween my eyebrows.
this is today - i applied it at about 11, then got in the bath and washed it off about 12 hours later, then reapplied so i'll sleep with it on.
apparently very dry skin is a side effect of minox, so i drank a LOT of water today and moisturised my moustache area prior to applying the second time. i'll also be keeping an eye on how it affects my skin. over the course of the day a couple of spots formed in the areas where i applied the minoxidil, but they came to a head (this is very graphic, sorry!) relatively quickly and so had a pretty short lifespan, so perhaps they're just a result of me applying something new to my skin, rather than specifically the product.
ignore my very shiny face, i'm naturally an oil slick :p it's pretty much the exact same on both sides, but you can kind of see the pre-existing fuzz already on my cheeks.

update:
i slept with it on, for about 9 hours. i woke up with the WORST skin i've had in a while. i had several very big and angry spots in the areas where i'd applied it, and my eczema (which is in and around my nostrils) had flared up dramatically, resulting in a flaky mess around my top lip. my skin was so bad that my lip piercing had started to get agitated :( my lips (i'd gotten a tiny bit of minox on them, but thought i'd wiped it off entirely) were the most chapped they've been since the time i had an allergic reaction to a lip product and had to go to hospital with them; they weren't uncomfortable though, just ridiculously dry.

fortunately, after exfoliating and applying some acne cream to my face, my skin felt pretty comfortable. it's probably just my brain imagining things, but i THINK my fuzz on my neck and jaw has grown a minuscule amount, and i think i have a few extra hairs on the tails of my eyebrows, which is amazing! i'm going to continue to use the minox, and hopefully my skin will stop hating me for it :p

sounds like you can handle it, bro! keep us informed

i started it today (2%, wanna go easy on this, my health is already bad for itself). I have a terrible headache but i don't think it can be it, after just one application.

i'm sorry to hear about your headache rory :( i haven't experienced that (yet), but if i do i'll let you know!!
it's been 3 1/2 days (the half is bc i've only done one application today) since i started using 5%, and my eyebrows are getting more caterpillar-like by the minute. i've also noticed some velvety, but long-ish blonde hairs starting to come through on the base of my chin, and on my top lip. the progress i've made in days on it is more than i've made in 3 years, so i'm VERY VERY happy with using it so far, and i'll almost definitely be buying more to use throughout february.

The first time I used minoxidil I applied it twice. With the second application it triggered a migraine and heart palpitations. It may have been because I always put some around my upper lip for my mustache area and accidentally got it on my lips which I licked. I was fine after a while and I still use minoxidil without any more issues but it definitely could trigger headaches and such.

i found that if i apply it full-dose (1 ml every 12 hours) it gets me bad palpitations. I have to stick to half the dose, which is very few since it is 2% already, but i feel better with it.

Obviously as mtf I don't use it on beard, but I have accidentally gotten it in my mouth before (touch it fresh on head and not realize it, then touch mouth or pick my teeth or something stupid) and had some weird effects. Nothing as serious as what you mention, but it definitely made me a little light headed and my mouth numb.

I noticed so long as you use it on the sides and lower face area there are no side effects for me, but use it anywhere else and there are. So let's hope none of my hair falls out.

Blonde facial hair runs in my family, so I'm waiting for the month to be over to take pictures so I have a significant enough difference :p
My eyebrows are DEFINITELY getting thicker. They're gradually crawling towards each other, and I've noticed that they're growing thicker in the arch area, which makes them a lot straighter and gives me a very beetle-browed, dark and handsome appearance (I'm very modest about them, clearly)
I got some in my mouth the other day and got an AWFUL headache, though. I could literally feel my head throbbing. I've since tried other methods to apply it, rather than dropping it from the pipette directly onto my face. I find that putting it on my hands then rubbing it in works best.
I've also had a couple of people start stroking my neckbeard and sideburns, which is always fun!!

Hello everyone! I am back with the much anticipated one month update!
All I have to say is...wow. Blonde, velvety facial hair runs in my family so I'm not too fussed by how light it is, and I'm just so impressed. Before I started minox, my face was entirely bald, and my eyebrows were barely present. Now I have hair long enough for people to pull (most painful experience ever) and thick, increasingly close eyebrows. My moustache has yet to come in, but I am noticing hairs popping up. I've got a single black hair on my chin which I am INCREDIBLY proud of!

I have eyebrow slits rn, and the bottom two pictures are of my beard post face-wash (washing your face with soap makes the hair stick out more and appear slightly thicker (and apologies for my weird mouth pose, I was focusing super hard)). The minox doesn't aggravate my acne at all, despite feeling a little greasy. During the first week or so I noticed my skin flaking a little, but this has almost entirely disappeared. I occasionally get headaches if I get it in my mouth so I've been applying it with a cotton pad recently, and that seems to have stopped it.
I can't wait to see what happens next month!

Works well doesn't it.

After 2 months of it I have pretty much full activation of all the facial hairs on the sides, chin, neck. The only part still waiting to come in is the "connectors".

May I ask your routine and how you apply it? I had just bought some for myself and I am ready to try it out!

(In my case I use half a cap of foam twice a day after washing/showering, morning and before sleep. Apparently regularity of application is the important thing for results.)

I didnt get one with foam, couldn't find that unfortunately, mine is a spray, I wonder if I can put it on a tissue and apply it that way.

i haven't used minox for the last few days, and i'm a bit confused because my facial hair appears more prominent than ever. i'm going to attribute this to my skin not being dried out by the alcohol, so the hair might be sticking out slightly different, but i'm still a little baffled! anybody got a possible explanation?

I do occasional breaks using it on my scalp to let the skin heal for sure. If you haven't been, you definitely want to be using a good moisturizer though wherever you apply it, maybe even a topical medical cream (i have triamcinolone for psoriasis I occasionally use on minox area). Though if you want to get the most out of hair growth at the same time, use a 3:1 castor oil and coconut oil blend. I don't know for sure if it is supposed to work on beard, but couldn't hurt.

update: i've been researching minox and it turns out when i stop using it, my hair will fall out. i don't want this, and my unibrow is just starting to flare, and i want to come off the minox. i'm thinking off switching to castor and jojoba oil. will this prevent hair loss, or will the loss still occur while the oil causes hair to continue to grow?

Are you sure that's the case for beard usage? The reason it starts to fall out again with typical scalp usage is that DHT is still in play, that won't happen with beard I wouldn't think.

i'm not sure - i was basing that off a thing i read that said stopping minox would cause blood vessels to push the hair out of the body, but now i think about it, it does sound kinda dumb  ;D

The point of using it on the beard is to force the vellus hair there to turn terminal faster. Terminal is the adult male beard hair instead of the kind found on girls, women and young boys on the face. It works by increasing blood flow to the follicles, whilst you are undergoing your T-puberty. It doesn't do anything itself to the follicle, it just allows the follicles to respond faster to the T in your system because the have more oxygen and nutrients.

Stopping it hasn't made anything fall out for me.

When people use it on their head what they are doing is increasing blood flow to the follicles that are affected by DHT which shuts certain follicles down. The reason hair falls out when people stop using it on their head is because you shut off that extra blood flow from minox and those hairs were going to fall out anyway.
