Title: Toe Shortening Surgery?
Post by: eblewitt on February 09, 2018, 06:23:20 PM
Hi,
Has anyone gone through Toe Shortening Surgery? If so, how do you feel about the results? What are the pluses and minuses about the surgery? How far out of the norm does your toe have to be to be considered a good option for surgery.

Thanks,
Ellen

How is toe-shortening surgery related to transitioning? (Honest question, I'm curious. Hope that didn't come off as rude!)

Really??? OMG, the medical industry is making a fortune off trans women. Toe shortening, hip bone implants, rib removal, vocal cord surgery. It's unreal! Please don't take offense but why on earth would you ever consider toe shortening surgery??? I'm sure it's got to be painful. How much time is anyone going to spend looking at your feet.

Seriously I have big feet really big feet. Nobody notices or cares.

I have an aunt who had the last segment of bone removed from her second toe (on each foot) because she didn't like that it was longer than her big toe. To this day she just paints the skin on the end and pretends its a toenail.

That's all I have to contribute.

I imagine it's a procedure aimed to make one more feminine if your toes are extra large.

I don't know, but I think it's not much time off your feet. As I understand it, after the bone is cut out, titanium is put in to hold the toe together. Other than that I don't know much.

There are surgeons who will shorten toes, just not many of them. A google search will bring up a few names.

For us tall ladies with shoe sizes above 12 or 13, finding shoes that fit are a real problem. Often we just wear sandals or even men's athletic shoes.

Oh, interesting. Well, my best friend (natal female) has feet that are a few sizes bigger than mine. I mean, yes, I naturally have tiny feet but--feet come in all different shapes and sizes and I personally wouldn't invest in them. I doubt a trans woman has even been clocked by her toes, but to each their own!! xx

Actually, a lot of guys particularly like women's feet.  (I kind of like men's feet but I'm just weird.  Even cis women don't admit to liking men's feet.)  I don't think that the size of feet or toes affects their beauty, though.  Many tall women have rather large, beautiful feet with long toes.  I don't know why some women create ugly bunions by squeezing their feet into small shoes.

Wow! I didn't know that this procedure existed before reading about it here. A quick google search found that not only is this a thing, but there is also a foot reduction surgery. Both are very expensive though. But having a size twelve foot, it is good to know that these things exist.

I'd be interested to see a longitudinal study on this procedure, as the foot/toes generally grow to the size required to correctly support your bodies height and weight - mostly height. I'd be concerned about long term issues with things like arthritis and similar.

Hah actually I have exceptionally long 2nd metatarsals... greek feet syndrome or some some bs. Actually it can cause hammertoe, corns, and requires longer shoes than normal so can cause chafing with the other areas on the feet.

Has nothing to do with appearances or body dysmorphia or anything, but it WOULD be nice to get the little buggers in line :P    And yes they actually do have surgery to shorten it.  Its called a second metatarsal shortening osteotomy.

I haven't gotten it yet but its in the back of my mind. After my boob job and hip implants

I do not understand the thought process of toe shortening. I would leave the toes alone. There are more important things to worry about.

Toe shortening is way down on everybody's list, but if you have very large feet, just finding shoes are a problem.

I know we are talking about actual bone shortening in this post, but wanted to share that i went down 1 size in shoe size (from 11 to 10 - and sometimes to 9.5) after being on hrt for some time.

i can't speak for everyone but i am guessing i've lost muscle mass between toes??

not sure if that is it but when i recently tried on an Eddie Bauer men's puffer jacket after being on hrt for some time, the sleeves covered the top of my hands. You could only see my fingers if i wiggled them. it was like i had lost muscle mass. i ended donating the coat to my ex-bf.

so i figured that's how i explain the decrease in shoe size.....

I actually went up half a size after I started hrt. I went from a size 5.5 to a 6. 😞

I know a cis women who went to NY to do this, its not a trans surgery its just a very stupid surgery that preys on women who are dysphoric about their feet! Well she did it and she was fine for about 1 year and then shes had permanent pain in her feet for the years 4 after. Dont do it. Rather just get shoes in designs that make you feet appear smaller.
