Im honestly considering getting a little stud ear pierce soon for both ears just so I can have something a little more feminine going on. I have large ear lobes so I can probably go with a few different things. Im new to this so Im wondering if there's anything I need to know about having them done before I start?
Get them done at a piercing salon by someone who knows what they are doing. I got mine done at a hair salon, using a piercing "gun". Although I followed all instructions, the hole closed up. Apparently the gun doesn't do that good a job.
I then went to a tattoo/piercing salon to have them fixed. The guy looked scary, and I had to listen to rap music while he worked. But he was a stickler for cleanliness, even changing his gloves between ears. He used needles to repair the holes, and I have had no trouble since.
I totally love the look of earrings, and I have at least a set of silver studs in them at all times. I put them in when I get up in the morning, and don't take them out until I go to bed at night. I only take them out when I want to wear something fancier.

Had my ears pierced @ a tattoo place as well and supposedly using a needle is much better than a gun. Before I went I looked up the people online first and my instincts we right because she did an excellent job. I had my mid lower lobes pierced. Okay good luck, it'll be a fun experience.
Same here, I looked up a good tattoo shop and had it done with a needle. I was careful to keep them really clean using only recommended cleaner and follow all instructions from shop. Everything turned out fine.
Newly pierced ear lobes need a stud in place 24/7 for many months to keep them from healing over and closing up. You must do cleanings with the stud in place as well.
Also these new studs need to be rotated often during the day.

When I had mine done last year, the piercer told me that they no longer recommend rotating them. Something to do with a study that showed that it hinders rather than helps. I was actually really impressed that they keep up to date of studies and standards. Definitely go for the piercer rather than the gun though. Much less likely to get infection and tends to be a much cleaner pierce, therefore healing tends to me less eventful.
Main thing is, wherever you go, follow their after instructions.

Yes! Always Always Always go to an actual piercing shop and never let anyone touch your body with a piercing gun.
If it fits your style I'd probably look into a helix just be prepared for a little more pain than what your lobes were. Cartilage piercings hurt and heal way slower. Imo it's worth it though.
Got them done in 1977, back then I had 2 gold hoops. My gran used to pierce ears with ice cubes, a cork & darning needle, we were tough back then!
I was also like you, i don't have long hair, so I thought that it would be nice to have earings at least. So I bought needle, I have a friend who knows how to deal with pearcing. So just buy special needle (https://tattooist.com/collections/tattoo-needles) and if you have friend who can help you use him. And if not go to special shop.
Surgical steel post earrings are highly recommended. Sadly, many shops that pierce ears do not sell them. However, you could go to a place such as Kelly's Beauty Supply to get some. You can even buy a piercing kit and have a trusted friend pierce your ears. Don't forget to take precautions and prep your ears before having it done.
I got mine done at Spencer's back in the 90's.I had to wear studs 24/7 for a period of time which wasn't a problem. I've wore earrings 24/7 since. I believe The studs I got that day were specific for new piercings. They probably did have a surgical steel post. The studs locked so they wouldn't come out very easy. You want a surgical steel post with a good back that snaps/locks real good. When you shop for earrings make sure that back part doesn't come back off easily or you'll just loose them. Something else I learned is I bought a couple pairs of dangly earrings on Amazon they were gold in color and made one of my earlobes turn red and sore. Stick with better quality ones.
I just pierced my ears 6 weeks ago. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to changing my initial studs. I thought about it-- a kid in a mall with a piercing gun was a non-starter for me. I made calls and found a local tattoo place with a full time piercer. Did it cost more, yeah it did. Worth it. She walked me through everything. Placement, choice of surgical stainless or titanium, gave me a can of saline spray to clean with, and walked me through how to avoid infections.
I went with surgical steel. Less expensive and titanium is for people with sensitive skin I was told. For me, the peace of mind was worth the extra price over "free" mall piercing.

Just warning and I hope this does not happen to anyone here.
A few weeks ago I believe I mentioned that a lot of us from work went go karting and after E & M two lovely girls wanted to get (another) piecing, I was so tempted to go with them, but decided that I did not want to rock the boat at home.
I found out that both were in hospital with badly infected ears needing intravenous antibiotics. M was in hospital for over a week. This is not antidotal as I know them both very well.
The place used had a good reputation and had been used by M many times before.
This was very unusual but does say be very careful where you go, check social reviews. It will not stop me when I am ready and should not stop anyone else but take care.
