Title: HRT and Memory
Post by: stephanie_craxford on February 05, 2006, 06:01:31 PM
Gillian and I were chatting in the kitchen, and I commented on a TV program.  She laughed and said "You remembered that!  It must be the hormones".  I was surprised that I remembered the fact as well.  However, to those who are on, or were on HRT, did you experience memory improvement.  I must admit the I still "Forget" to take my medication from time to time :)

OH Yes Steph,
There is some medical truth to that Statement. I had been told by my DR. before we started the Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy for me that I would experience clearer thinking down the road too. Leah laughed and said "Now that would definitly be a plus." She really gets mift at me when I can think of the words I'm wanting and tries to finish sentences in attemps to helping me. I still forget on occation to take my meds and can expect to see some changes down the line in a day or so sometimes sooner. Mine are mostly in cream form now and fast acting so it's not as bad as it used to be. Those are abosorbed much quicker and the fix is within 30 minutes to an hour. So that is good.

Smiles,
Peggiann

Stephanie, Clearer thinking yes memory no. I forget to take my medication and if I actually took them at all some days, although I think very clear and remember things that directly have an impact on me like what shoes I saw in a catalogue or makeup tips and tv shows that relate to a certain thing but as for memory (HELP) I am such a dizzy person that even my wife comments (cant relate to males at all because I cant remember what they are talking about). Some days I can think so clear I can even hear people next door talking and they are about 200 meters away, other days all I think of is how bad I feel and that clouds my head a bit.

Before hrt I was totally different, thought I knew it all but now I am like a mouse.

Sara.

Here's a link to an article that cites two different studies on the effects of estrogen on memory.  I don't know what the study methodology was, so I don't know if the results are good or are just blowing sunshine up our derriers (sp?).

Here are a couple of quick google searches.  It's late, and I can't explore them just now.

I had the blood draw for my baseline labs on Saturday, and I should see the start of HRT within the month (if all goes well.)  I look forward to seeing if HRT will improve my CRS (Can't Remember S#!^) and speed up my acquisition of Japanese.
