Title: Gender? It's A Gray Area. Differences between Male and Female Brains
Post by: Buffy on September 24, 2006, 11:37:47 PM
 Brain Differences (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/23/AR2006092300968.html)

'The Female Brain' Dissects Our Differences Above the Neck

Men and women come equipped with completely different operating systems -- not only below the belt but between the ears.

"There is no unisex brain," says Louann Brizendine, author of "The Female Brain." "It follows these two brain models can produce quite different behaviors." (By Thor Swift For The Washington Post) Like bath towels, there are his-and-her brains.

Startling facts include:

• Men think about sex every 52 seconds, while a woman does only once a day.

• Women speak faster on average -- 250 words per minute vs. 125 for a typical male.

• A woman uses 20,000 words per day, while a man uses only 7,000.

• Boys don't listen to mommy (answer: because "he physically cannot  hear the same tone of warning").

• And "a woman knows what people are feeling, while a man can't spot an emotion unless somebody cries or threatens bodily harm."

Buffy, this is fascinating. It's amazing.  I fit everyone of these!  Although, I don't tend to talk very quickly.  I sort of have a drawl.  I've been thinking about learning a southern drawl.  That would make me more endearing ;)

Great article Becky!  I always knew that my brain was soooooo different from my body; there are in fact many articles written about the differences of male and female brains, and I'm very glad to know that the studies of gender are going towards that direction.

Who knows?  maybe in the future we will not have to deal with so much bigotry and ignorance, for there will be a definite test to diagnose our true gender.  Perhaps those times will come when the vessel of my actual body is no more, but I'll be here in another body, female this time... ;D ;D

I want to know her take on my brian then..

I think about sex about as often as a man would.
I do indeed speak fast and with more words, though I tend to be more concise than some women.
I do have the empathic side.
I do however enjoy maths and solitary computer time.

Ugh... reading through it all.. she seems more caught up on stereotypes and the 'average' brain.
What about the few of us out there that have both masculine and femenine mental and empathic traits?

I will attempt this...in hope not to arise someone's ire.
=====
ok...so we all knew anyway..way way back,...some time ago--this has been written about over and over.
we all know the differences between testosterone and estrogen...
we all know..men were taught way back when- to be hunters and killers and women were taught to be gather-ers and nesters...
---
we knew this.
nothing new has been added..........since the dawn of mankind.
------
what "I" question.........is.......1st this primarily re: bio male/female.
now whomever claimed trans folk make changes? it seems......SEEMS to MY mind here..using scientific logic...in the male world.......as "I" was given-------------------------
logic to me dictates..being raised and bred and taught AS male--the mind...save from lobotomy...is going to tremember that role and training and is not...going to go against it.
there is no way...in my mind that I would become anymore nurturing and nesting than I have before.

"I"..personally here...IMHO in all this......that I may be doing trans in due course of time...I am still going to remember my maleness and am not going to be any more sympathetic than I am now.......
as a matter of fact?  I ..MAY even be a bit colder.
maybe.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I myself..was told..sympathy is between sh** and syphilis in the dictionary...
and "I",....have a zero tolerance for sheer stupidity and ignorance.
I will give 10 points to anyone trying to help themselves..but someone that just sits there and whines...NO!

sympathy? empathy? I don't think so.
in my life..ain't no one give a damn about me...there is no way I am going to give a damn about anyone else.

i.e.--
"learn how to forget and forgive"
no.  no one ever forgot or forgave anything I ever did or said.
"learn to share"
no! I'm an only child--I don't have to share..I bought it..it's mine..
=====================================================
so I went off on a tangent here.
sorry.
but I needed to get it out, in this light.
