I noticed that my crotch has a very different oder to it now compared to pre-HRT. The skin has also darkened quite a bit and is a bit more shinny. I'm wondering how much of this is HRT vs. being stuffed into panties everyday? My gut says a bit of both. I'm also wondering what I can do about the oder besides bathing frequently and avoiding my cotton panties because I love to wear them. Also the wife won't go down on me anymore and I would feel very self conscious about it now even if she did.

The only thing I've noticed is any odor has been reduced in crotch and pits. BUT my feet are more aromatic and not in a good way.
About undies - I don't "stuff" or "tuck" or anything like that I just wear Fruit-of-the-loom Microfiber Hipster style (https://www.fruit.com/women/panties/hipsters/women%27s-6-pack-microfiber-low-rise-hipster/6DMFLH1.html?dwvar_6DMFLH1_color=103#start=6 (https://www.fruit.com/women/panties/hipsters/women%27s-6-pack-microfiber-low-rise-hipster/6DMFLH1.html?dwvar_6DMFLH1_color=103#start=6)) I love um.
HRT definitely affects it
if you're tucking, you are contributing to the smell by doing so. It's crammed into a small spot between your cheeks and panties. You perspire naturally, plus given that area there's odor and bacteria down there that develops through the day.
A quick way to alleviate is before sex is to wipe off with some wet wipes or a rag and warm soapy water. this will get rid of the odor so the wife can do her thing without being nauseated.
I noticed a dark stripe on mine that seems to produce its own stickiness (especially at certain times iykwim), even when wearing loose boxers and stuff all the time. I think it's confused on exactly what it's supposed to be.
Or rather, it and I are on the same page, but the rest of reality is refusing to cooperate!
Just stay clean and try and take a break from tucking sometimes (like while sleeping maybe?), and separate it from the scrotum from time to time so it can breathe a bit and air out.
Personally, I think the whole situation would be improved dramatically if it was by itself, the testes are nothing but problems.
Crotch smells and sweats a lot differently. Starts to smell a lot like female genitals, which is nice.
So does your entire body odor change? I have a friend who is mtf and she fully transitioned. I remember when I first met her, she was already living as a woman and she had this weird smell in her. It wasn't B.O. per se like I'm pretty sure her armpits didn't stink but it was her whole body, like you know how after a long day at work you feel sticky and like you're not 100% fresh? Like your "natural" body smell can be noticeable? It was that. But it was kinda gross and I'm pretty sure she didn't realize it.
I've had a definite change of smell in the crotch area. Also noticed skin darkening too.
Umm, I thought it was just me. Yes, the smell down there has changed and is distinctly vagina-like.
I think your chemistry changes. You get female like body odor in all places. I think it is a better smell in all cases. Which is interesting because on men, i love their smell. We are complex creatures.
I dont have the ability to go looking for the info im gonna comment on atm and it was 3 years ago that i had found the answer to this but ill paraphrase from memory.
Body chemistry changes emmensely for a vast majority of people on hrt.
MtFs will find a change from an acrid, salty smell to a sweeter more pleasant scent.
The opposite for FtMs.
This is due to multiples of reasons. When we sweat the smell that results is from body chemistry and the strength of that scent is largely due to the amount of sebum glands in your skin.
Typically people with an estrogen / progesterone based endochrine system have less sebum glands then those with higher androgenic based endochrine.
To add, stress also contributes to type of scent, strength and quantity of sweat. This i dont know as much about but i do know it plays a role.
And for one last point... diet also contributes to body scent and amount of sweat. Some people consciously change there diets during transition for varrying reasons and not allways consciously. This also ofcourse plays a role in what your noticing.
Personally I wasnt even on estrogen yet (only spiro) for a few days when i noticed that there was very little noticeable scent coming from the major sweat zones. By the time i was on low dose estrogen 1 month after starting spiro i could smell the very clearly female smell while changing.
I even noticed a difference of urine smell shortly after starting profesterone cycling.
It was so relieving that i didnt smell like a dude anymore that i cracked a rear of joy a few times.
Stuff shrinks. Skin darkens. Glans of penis always looks moist. Odor definitely different. Thought it was just my 50 year old self.
I never had a strong smell
But when I was taking injections my under arms stopped smelling and my crotch started to smell
When I went from injection to patch everything reversed itself
Across the board, my smells have improved. Before HRT i always needed to do antiperspirant, now i can do deodorant only. I have noticed a change down there but its been a more pleasant one.
I'm 60 and not on HRT.
An interesting observation I've made that I am inclined to attribute to so-called andropause.
Over the last few years I've pretty much stopped smelling typically male. Underarms are nearly odorless at the end of a typical day. My crotch no longer has a musky smell and even my feet don't tend to smell when I take off shoes. In fact, at the end of the day my underwear tends to have a rather characteristically feminine smell.
Also, I've noticed my skin is far less oily and generally softer with my very sparse body hair nearly invisible now. Facial hair is softer, so much so that I shave in the shower with simply lathering my face with body wash or soap. I can barely feel the tug of the razor against the skin and a blade last for weeks.
Also, I'm generally less horny, cuddlier.
I'm almost afraid to think what would happen if I were to begin HRT.
As I think back on it, The onset of these various effects seems to coincide with the awful rise in dysphoria I began having a few years ago.
Given, it's only and n=1 observation, but gives me pause to consider the possibly causal relationship.

geez the rabbit hole gets deeper
Yes it does change and to me it seems a lot stronger. But then again I can smell a mans body Oder from several feet now where before I almost never noticed it. Weird huh?
I know before it did not find my urine offensive but now on Estrogen HRT I kinda do. It smells very much like female genetalia. Also as I no longer have "normal" ejaculate, I get just clear fluid. Sometimes it just comes out some on its own. No stimulation at all. I believe this is Cowplers gland fluid. And yes the perenium seems to get moist without any tucking happening.
Overall body Oder changed dramatically. My wife noticed it right off. Sometimes guys seem to react to what I guess are pheromones. Also a very weird experience that I have never had living as a guy.
Everyone is different, but I had some odor too; what really smelled (and still does) is my pee. I drink more than enough water every day and the color is good but that definitely has a not so non-offensive odor to it. All my blood work is good, Doc says it is not a problem so not to fret over it much.
Hope this helps.

I had most of these symptoms including Steph's except that I began andropause in my 40's after 2 decades of testosterone over-production which made me heck to live with. TMI, but orgasm was the only thing that mellowed my strong emotions then. Without the testosterone my dysphoria ramped way up and I was seriously suicidal when not distracted. When I finally realized that I'm trans and went on HRT changes were slow but steady and sexual desire finally returned to where it had been before andropause in the last 6 months. (Three years on HRT in a month.)My emotions are generally nicer and less volatile. I still don't need deodorant. I suppose that will come back eventually. I did notice last night, after a day in the Florida heat, that I had a nice but strong feminine fragrance between my legs. I think that whether you're wired lesbian or straight has some effect on whether or not those odors are pleasant. I have yet to find a male who smells good to me.

April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Good riddance in my case. The odor that is gone is something that I can only liken to the smell of raunchy rotting wet grass clumped under a lawn mower deck. Not freshly mown grass or hay.
Now it is something almost vaguely perfume-like or slightly floral.
A welcome change.
Even my feet are far less stinky. I don't perceive the typical rotten Swiss cheese smell (propionobacterium activity on fatty acids) characteristic of feet.

I'm noticing this as well. I'm still not 100% sure if it's my imagination or just a better sense of smell but it does seem stronger than before, also the glans seems to be a bit more moist (not much though) while before it was basically dry all the time.

Steph,
I love your very accurate smell description, but are we talking Fescue or Kentucky Blue Grass? lol
I had gotten rid of the male smell being on HRT a while. It came back when I got off HRT for 6 weeks for surgery last year. Then it was gone after a short time with the hormones. This year same thing, off for surgery, GCS, but so far the smell has stayed. I would think it would have gone by now, especially since I no longer have Testosterone in my body. The E dose does get reduced after that surgery and I no longer need Spiro, so I am not sure what the cause is. The remaining beard seems to be growing faster too. Yuk to it all.

So much for Cordon Blue tonight - thanks Steph LOL
Cordon Bleu is fine on the plate, not so fine in the crotch or the feet. And now for the question of what wine best to drink with this dish... Probably something like a Cote du Rhone or Beaune. the wine seems even better without your privates smelling like the undersides of a raunchy lawnmower.
Steph.
OMG, so this isn't just in my head. I thought maybe this feminine not-so-fresh odor was just my overactive imagination, or at least just wishful thinking. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have noticed this.

So I'm not just going crazy. I started to notice a lack of BO after a few weeks and by the second month the smell down there was much different.
It stinks down there. On me or to me anyway. There is a spray for that down there. I had to buy some. By the next day just before my shower it would get pretty ripe. Never had that before. Been in hrt for a year now. So hopefully the spray works. Today is the first day I've used it so I'm the morning I'll know if it's better.

That happened with me. After a embarrassing incident I started using the deodorant spray for down there. I had just finished working out and my brother and his friends came in and sat down. I got up to get a drink and when I came back my brother said he needed to ask me something and took me back to the kitchen. He told me I smelled. I sniffed my pits and he said no it wasnt BO. I asked him what was it then and he told me I smelled like "sweaty pussy". I thought he was messing with me but he swore he wasnt and that his friends had noticed it too. I didn't smell it and I'm not sure how that can happen since I don't have a vagina to smell , yet, but he was dead serious and said it was kind of strong. So I don't know if maybe its the crotch sweat or what but I don't take any chances.
I have much the same issue. Changing your base hormone changes the composition of your sweat and other fluids. If you tuck that just makes the change more obvious. This creates an environment conducive to bacteria (many of which are symbiotic) found on women and less conducive to bacteria found on men. Eventually your personal ecology switches. Kinda nice.when you think of it.
