I'm FTM, transitioned socially at 11, changed name at 15, hoping to get on HRT soon at 16. Apart from obviously family, a couple old time friends, and one other trans person at my school, I'm stealth, and want to stay that way. Hopefully for the rest of my life. I've just been having a hard time lately and figured ignoring this part of me isn't going to help so.....coming back to this forum for the first time since I was 11 and figuring it all out, thanks in part to some of the posts on here. Still figuring out how this forum works, so sorry if my formatting or profile is awkward.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I already have a pretty good idea which religion you joined and while they aren't a cult, in some ways they are cult like. Your options are pretty limited and as I see it, you can continue stealth or find a religion that's more accepting. Knowing that religion, it's not likely they are going to change their policy anytime in the near future as these standards have been in place for a long time. I'm sorry I don't have a better option however your options are few in this case.

I suppose I didn't make it to hard to figure out, haha. I know a lot of people feel that way about it's practices, and without getting into how organized religion itself is by definition a cult, I can't really fight it. I believe my church is the closest and truest to Jesus' teachings and contains a huge part of the gospel that others are missing, so knowing and believing that, I don't think I could join another church just because it's more accepting. I'm sure I sound awful whiny right about now, complaining about the position I put myself in. I mostly just wanted to vent, though I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read about my situation and try to help. It honest to goodness means a lot to me.
My path through life has given me a fair amount of exposure to that religion and I have found them accepting of outsiders, even when I probably wasn't passing very well. I have learned about their history and practices so I understand it's a very traditional religion and it if weren't for a few places where they are intolerant, I can see where it might be a desirable religion to join.
It will be a difficult decision for you but remember the Catholic religion and Galileo. It took about 400 years for the church to acknowledge that Galileo was right so if you believe in god and you feel god accepts you, it is possible that your church is wrong on this point. It could take more than your life time for your religion to acknowledge it's mistake, but I am sure in that 400 years, many Catholics knew their church was wrong but continued to follow the remainder of their teachings.

I think that's a really inspired and thought out response, and I really really appreciate you saying it. I'm not the only trans person in the church and we generally have a consensus that we all believe that the church is just waiting on revelation from the prophet for the church to realize it's wrong in their view on trans people. I'm not too keen on being a pioneer in the church for trans people but I'm not going to turn my back on it because it hasn't realized it's faults yet. I believe God accepts me and he's put me in a position where I am able to remain stealth and be happy in the church, so I know he loves and accepts me, and that's plenty for me. You're a very smart and thoughtful person, so I really appreciate your conversation.
