In Manhattan, there is one at The Center ( https://gaycenter.org/tgnc )

208 W 13 St
New York, NY 10011

It meets the first Wednesday of the month. I've been a few times and it's OK, but I prefer the one in NJ better. There are some others in the other boroughs. Here is a PDF link from Callen-Lorde of NYC area Transgender Resources you should take a look at:  http://callen-lorde.org/graphics/2017/03/NYC-Metro-TGNC-Resources_July-28_2016.pdf

There should be groups on Long Island as well. I'll find out if you like.

If you don't have a place already lined up and don't have deep pockets I recommend finding a room to rent in Inwood (northern Manhattan, just across the bridge from the Bronx). You can expect to pay about $150 a week and it'll prolly be owned by a nice old Dominican lady. When I suddenly found myself needing a place to live I rented a room near Dyckman and ended up staying there for 5 years because it was so cheap, accessible, quiet and clean. If you are interested I can give you a few pointers on finding a nice room, some are vastly superior to others even in the same price range, and there are of course signs of trouble to watch out for.

I currently live in the Bronx, if you're looking for a place in or around Kingsbridge/Riverdale I can keep an eye for roommate wanted posters. Kingsbridge and Riverdale are neighborhoods just north of Inwood (Manhattan), across the Henry Hudson bridge. They are connected to Manhattan via the 1 train on the west and the 4 train on the east.

Edit: I too am looking for NYC groups to check out. I currently have no social life and it'd be nice to talk to someone IRL about this stuff, I have so many questions. Unfortunately after a thorough googling that one meeting on the first Wednesday of each month that Sydney was kind enough to point out appears to be all that is readily available to the public. I'm planning on going to that.

Hi Polly, for support groups I was told there's a "surgery group" every Tuesday from 6-7pm located at 356 w 18th st on the 6 floor.

I haven't gone yet but I want to! And I want to go to the one Sydney mentioned on Wednesday too..

Thanks so much for the info. I did learn that not all apartments (or roommates) are created equally with the last room I rented... I just moved to the upper west side for the time being. Will see how it goes for me.

Hope we get to meet sometime!

The Upper West Side is the best. I don't live there anymore but that's still the neighborhood I go to when I want to enjoy and nice day out. Good luck.

Edit: I did some googling and I think you might be referring to the below workshop, which seems to be a limited series.

Good thinking looking it up!! I was given the information back in October so it's probably changed.

I like it here too! I'm renting a room with 2 guys. It'll do for the next few months while I save some money to get my own place. But then I want to get surgeries too...

Anyway hope you have a great day!!

Did you go and if so what did you think?

There is a Vaginoplasty & Orchiectomy Workshop this Thursday, March 1st, from 6:00 - 7:00 PM at Callen Lorde on 18th Street. It covers: "Surgery techniques, recovery, and sexual pleasure post-surgery."
Unfortunately you have to be a patient there apparently.

I was there, I was the one with the dog but he's so quiet you may not have noticed him.

The actual group was okay I guess. I don't really like the impersonal way these groups are conducted. I have so many questions but I get the impression that actually engaging in conversation is discouraged and that they're geared more towards monologues and anecdotes.
Also, this is the 2nd trans group this month that was fixated on violence for a fair amount of time. I'm not really ever in the same situations as some so if that's what they wanna talk about that's cool but it's not really my cup of tea.

But all that's okay because after the group ended, Lisa, the 50 something (she looks great) woman who sat kinda near the main counselor let me pester her for 2 hours after the group. She answered so many questions and gave me a lot of great advice. It was awesome.

Everyone seemed very nice and I look forward to the next one.

I didn't notice! Until the very end when you were petting him- so cute how quiet he is!!

I was the one with the silver stars on my shirt and in all black.. or RK as I just went by the initials of my birth/last name.

I'm curious what you asked Lisa and where your conversation went! They mentioned something about having topics to focus on each group.. I think that would help a lot in terms of everyone having a chance to talk/have more conversations hopefully.
