Title: Women's clothing for tall people
Post by: Lucca on June 11, 2018, 11:20:08 PM
I'm 6'3", and I was wondering what experiences other 6-foot-plus transwomen have had finding female clothes that fit. I'm very tall, but I'm not very muscular, and probably about average body mass for my height. I'm hovering at just under 200 pounds and am in the process of losing a bit more.

I have really long legs, the (men's) jeans I bought recently are 32 inches long. Where does one get women's pants that are that long? (At least my legs are pretty thin and curvy, which is a plus.) My shoulders are also a bit wider than my hips, how do you find flattering tops that fit well without draping over your body and making you look wider?

You can order a good deal of what you want on the internet at JC Pennys. If you want the really good stuff, Long Tall Sally's (http://www.longtallsally.com) however it is costly. Better quality clothing can be worn for a long time so if your not a slave to fashion, the better stuff isn't really that costly.

American Eagle skinny jeans are a bit spendy but worth the dough.  They always come in a "long" version that has a 32 inch inseam and sometimes extra long (34 inch inseam)(in addition to regular and short versions).  On their skinny jeans they sell up to size 20.

Minimizing shoulders is more about not emphasizing them and maximizing hips with peplum tops, tops that flare or drape over the hips.  I have found that long sleeve tops are good for hiding muscular arms (something I won't need to do for much longer, thank you HRT) and bell sleeves work well to minimize large hands (which is why Caitlyn Jenner is seen a lot in bell sleeve dresses).

Torrid is a good shop for big and tall women if you have one in your area.

Hugs, Carly

Costco if you have one has ok jeans. Landsend works for tall dresses, always a sale. Threadup has been a cash savior for me. Amazon not so good, a lot of the clothing comes from Asia and XL or however it is sized is for 5'1 and 110 lbs

Thats what bugs me... the muscular arms.  I have fairly muscular... more wiry than anything arms.  Had more than one person comment on them when I expose my arms too!  It irks me even more that of all people, I had no reason to have any muscle growth there.  Just one extremely strange quirk of fate.  Not that I lifted heavy weights or anything either.  The rest of me is pretty feminine, just not my lying arms.

But on the note of clothes, I'm 6'2 too.  I really haven't had an issue for some strange reason.  I just buy size 10, size 10 tall if i can.  Maybe dresses are slightly short, but if you need to just wear leggings under the dress if it is cute enough to do so.  Just thoughts of mine :)

Look around. They are out there. JC Penny has tall clothes.  You can also adapt some dresses by wearing them over leggings, like a tunic. Long tall Sally is one place for tall clothes. I just think for the price the quality is a little to be desired. It's fairly easy to find 34" inseams at Old Navy. Lands End, I've been fairly lucky recently finding quite a few size 18 and xxl blouses. At Goodwill. Try them on. I am shrinking. I was 6'5" but I am now 6'3" after being on hrt for two years. We had one of the ladies in our meet up the other day sewing a blouse. I bought some ANA skinny jeans at Penny's with 34" inseam for not too much. I don't think it was over $40.

I'm 6-3 and have bought most if my "girl clothes" from Target and Old Navy.  You can get tall sizes from Old Navy on line if the stuff in the stores is too short.  I've gotten some leggings from Kohls and Penneys and I think Penneys also has tall sizes on line.

My biggest issue has been with tops. I've not lost much muscle mass as of yet and still need to drop at least 20 pounds.  I'm still big on top in the wrong places

EShakti and sumissura make clothes to order for anyone's size and considering that, they aren't all that expensive.

Maybe it's not as hard as I thought.

In regards to leggings, I'm afraid that having skintight pants around my lower legs will make my long, size 13 feet stick out. What's a good alternative that's form fitting and less thick than jeans? Boot-cut yoga pants?

Oh yeah—the boat race below my ankles.  Low to mid heels do a good job of visually foreshortening the foot.  Open toe sandals with two or three wide bands visually break up the foot and nail polish on the tootsies is a nice distraction as well.

Well, the problem with heels is that I'm already 6'3", so high heeled shoes might make my feet look smaller but will make me taller, which just solves one problem by creating another one.

Lucca.  I was able to find some boots at Long Tall Sally no heels.  and they go nicely with the skinny jeans. By the way my feet are size 14. I bought some really nice flats from Shoes of Prey. They have custom shoes up to 15. We are who we are, big feet, being tall. We didn't get to add our two cents about the decision. Our revenge is looking fabulous with what we got.

As others have said, I've had great results finding clothes from New York and Co, JC Penny, Old Navy tall collections as well as Long Tall Sally.  I haven't bought anything there yet, but I've been impressed with the website for Alloy Apparel as well and will probably give them a try.  ASOS also has some decent tall items.

I'm eager to read any advice about the foot thing (it's a shame I got rid of my birkenstocks, after reading the comment about sandals with wide straps).

Woah, looks like I missed some posts!

I've looked through Long Tall Sally's before, but some of their stuff is so expensive, especially shoes. It might be worth it if I can get a good pair of nice-looking boots though, I wouldn't wear them every day so I'm sure they'd last a long time.

For most casual outifts, I imagine I could probably just wear the shoes I usually wear. I like to wear pants that are wide and drap-ey enough to cover my ankles, though, because the contrast of my skinny ankles with my long feet makes them look really big, which is why I'm wary of wearing leggings with regular shoes. That said, what are some good options for non-jeans pants that are thinner and form-fitting higher up, but flare out and cover your feet a bit at the bottom?
