Viewing other members' profiles and editing your own profile is not possible until you have reached a minimum of 15 posts.

Cheers,
Seb

and I hope the verification stuff goes away then too.
am assuming it does.
thank you, I've been wondering about this :)
I've been wondering that for ages, and I kept thinking that I had to join a group to be able to put my avatar picture on. So I have to write 15 posts before I can put my face in my profile!

Yes, and please make them real posts, we are a family here and want to have nice and interesting posts, not just stacked.
Oh and BTW welcome to all the newbies that I haven't managed to catch up with :-* :-* :-*. I hope you all have a great time on this site ;D
Hugs
Cindy
Does the 15 post limit also limit sending or replying to personal messages? Because I can't figure out how to do that.

Yes.
Follow the link in the original post in this topic for more information.
Yes it does. Once you get to 15 posts you'll be able to PM.
haha, i was wondering. you should maybe put this in the profile thing in the help section so we're not on a scavenger hunt for why we can't. ?
Thanks for posting this, although it took me about 5 days to find it.
Okay, I'm not trying to be obnoxious here. But if you read the TOS and other, what do you call 'em, stickies? in the Announcements section, you'll find this information right there, in the third entry. I know it's a lot of reading, but at least it's all in one place. (It might not have always been that way, but it sure is now.) Reading those announcement threads is part of your responsibility as a member and can save you a lot of time and trouble later.
I guess I better post a little more. ;D ;D
So in other words you can not put anything on your profile at all until you have at least 15 posts? Eh the only way I have to get on the internet is on my phone unless I go to the libary or an friends house. Shouldn't I be able to go to my profile and put stuff on it by useing my phone?
The rules are simple.
Read the TOS.
We are not responsible for your internet access.
How can we be?????????? ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Although even better would be to be stacked so full of nice and interesting posts that one cannot see through the amount of awesome.
Eventually: all of this becomes boring and one's understanding of 'what is nice' changes to include right on about everything. And then that leaves one bored out of their skull and all angry-like :)
It's annoying to have to Verify each post though... I can barely make out those letters, and that first could be a G, and O, a C, a P... lots of things
(tis no surprise the average computer can scarcely do it). :-/
Edit: just realized I was still living in 2010 in my head when I posted this XD
Glad I found this, I was so confused :(
It is a challenge to find my way around a new neighborhood, so I appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks,
:) Lallie
It all makes sense now...
Some of the rules have been relaxed since 2009. For instance, you can post a picture in a thread now, prior to having 15 posts. I believe a brand new member can view other members profiles too.
So THAT'S why I couldn't PM! D'oh
oops! well that makes more sense.
Good post, this! I was assuming it was just me being my usual techno-fail self with this profile thingy.
...of course, I will quite likely find a way to fail at it even when I am allowed to edit
ok so I need 15 posts? well this is one more. ;)
Finally found out this information!
I was wondering about this for some time and rather frustrated. Thank you immensely.
And I thought I had done something wrong. Thanks for the information! :)
Ah, thank you! I just thought I was doing it all very, very badly. Haha!
Just keep something in mind. If the administrators think you are "post padding," that can be delayed.
Since I need 15 posts to really become a member of this site, this will be my first one. Thx for the info.
Good thing i found this i could not figure out why i couldnt change my age
Thanks!
You're spamming the forum, please stop.
It's good information to know, i've been a passive member only seeking fot information about tg issues but now I think its moment to be more active. thanks
Thank you so much for explaining this. I was about to create a thread to ask why I couldn't view anyone's profile or PM.
Thanks, this was helpful
so glad I didn't give up on this! I was starting to think I made the profile wrong! welp hopefully I can get to the post limit so I can make my own post and really join the community!
Thank you, got a little confused but found my way back hehe ::)
I've been wondering about this, I was started to get frustrated that I couldn't mark my gender or anything. Seems kind of silly to me. I mean I get why you wouldn't be able to see other profiles.
This site is very heavily moderated. Not only are the moderators looking for problems but some of the member, other staff and former moderator are as well. We look at all post but people with low post counts we pay special attention to as they can be trolls or spammers. The 15 post limit allows us time to take a look at new members and make sure they will be good citizens of the site before we allow them access to some of the more advances and possibly harmful features of the site. Enabling the profile opens up more than just the profile so it's not simply a case of giving you access to only one feature.
yeah, I half-figured it was something like that. makes sense. I didn't really realize how little I actually posted on here. I usually write longer things and then don't go on for a while.
Yeah, I just wasted some time trying to get this answered on the chat (the ones there carrying on some cliquey teen group convo and couldn't be bothered to answer until one nice person did). Not a good intro to the site... and now I'm annoyed that I'll need to be spamming the forum with posts just to be able to view someone's profile. I just ran into someone experiencing the same set of issues as me, down to some very unusual specifics, and wanted to see what else they posted on the subject (given their signature, it was an important enough one for them).
Welcome to Susan's Place. I recommend making informative useful post because Spam will earn 180 days time out and post padding will result in the posts being removed. We want to get to know you a little before we allow you access to some of the more powerful feature of the site such as personal messaging. The links will explain the rules and as this is a heavily moderated site, you are being watched.

Sorry that you had that experience in chat. 15 posts will happen before you know it. It's done to ensure that those that would harm us can't access our information so easily. I'm sorry that it seems like it is making things more difficult for you. Hugs

What's the purpose of it though
As moderators, we keep an eye on the members. We don't want people spreading spam by PM, we don't want people using the site as a dating web site and we don't want people who intend to harm others. If we don't learn of your intentions in 15 posts, we will take action to protect the members and the site until we know more about you.
While it will probably take a while for me to hit 15 posts at my infrequent posting rate, the logic behind making sure people are willing to play ball by the TOS is not rare among quality boards that I have experience with. Absence of solid moderation can increase the noise to signal ratio significantly. I will do my time.

Does it also mean that I can only upload my avatar after 15 posts also?

Reaching 15 posts unlocks almost everything other that the ability to smite or applaud a member. That takes 50 posts because smites or applauds should be difficult to earn (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,18960.0.html). They are not to be treated as likes in other sites but are instead marks of a major accomplishment.
However a word of warning moderators and administrators have the power to disable PMs, profile access, karma and posting ability if we see them abused (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,139178.0.html). We don't do it often but we have done it in the past.

Welcome to Susan's Place. You may have seen these scattered around the site but we present all new member with a set of the greeting links. They explain a good deal about the operation of the site and it's best to review them as they will answer some of the questions you might have about the site.

Thanks for this, wondered why!
lol I was slightly confused about this as well because I was able to change my profile information previously. However I left this site for a few days because I needed time to reflect on my life. But then I decided I really needed this site with the hope that it will help my transition go smoother. I'm thinking with all of your ladies help and knowledge it will be beneficial so I came back.
