I haven't photographed in a while...

you could play a bit with different apertures in general and see how much of the foreground and background gets sharp...

and you might try a few different settings of brightness, sometimes a bit lower brightness makes colours a bit more impressive...

all in all really good pictures imo  :)

what is the model of your cam ?
Btw older ones imo can make for more lively pictures... sometimes newer ones have a firmware which can make for too digital or fuzzy pics...

Love your idea, I am a Semipro photographer which is to say I shoot for money if I like the gig, but the real thing for me is to share the beautiful things we find in this world.  I love your center shot, the point of focus and the background leave me imagining the story of that glass and who shared it.  The portrait is really great shot too.

For technical sort I shoot with a D4s and a D810 (nikon),  when I can I'll definitely upload some pictures.

It would be great to know a little about each shot I sort of have the same questions, like camera, lens, methods used or maybe what inspired the shot.

Thanks for sharing some of the beautiful things in your life.

Me too, photograph is like I can capture the beautiful thing I see and share it. And it make my travel excite too. Shooting for the living would be my ideal things to do too ^_^ I tried register Shutter Stock too, but they reject many picture of me. I going to try again with better photo though.

Now I use Canon EOS Rebel it's like 12 years old camera my friend gave it to me so I can learn how to shoot. I only have one basic lens 18-55. All photo I took are taken with this set. And I think I need to get more lens though. It's hard decision to choose lens for me, cause I love shoot all kind of stuffs so I might need a lens that good to shoot both portrait, landscape, etc.

The glass photo was taken at the bar in San Francisco on Mar, I was walking around the city with my camera and shoot everything I could for half day. At the end I didn't really get a good photo from the trip, so I just stop as it getting dark and open Yelp find where I can get a drink and sit down relax. So I find this place it call Sky Bar at Marriott so I stop by and sit at tell Bartender that "give me any drink". Bartender do his thing and give me this glass and said "from your look, this is the drink that would fit you" And that's the picture I see with my eyes, a glass on the bar with the check on the side. So I pull up my camera and I do like five shots with different setting. The one is good is setting with ISO800 aperture 4.0 speed 13. And it end up that this picture is the best picture I took on that day, the picture come out pretty much like what I see with my eyes.

The camera you have is great. You can have a lot of fun with it, and it makes really good pictures.
You could have a look at used Sigma lenses. They do not work with newer cams due to a change in communication protocol.
Thus you could get great quality lenses for a decent price. Usually its written in a description that they do not work with newer models.

Naeree,

You have a great eye better than most, go to DXomark and read the sharpness and stats for you current lens and you will find out why Shutterstock is rejecting a lot of pictures.  They reject a lot of mine to so no big deal.  Sigma makes some really great lenses and and they are usb reprogramable with an adapter if they are the newer models.  The only caveat with third party lenses is in some cases the auto focus will hunt back and forth a few times before it locks on.  This is only and issue with them that I personally have run into. If it's not action then no big deal.

The sharpness is and noise level in the photos is two of the main reasons Shutterstock rejects pictures,  they like them very clean and simple composition like what you see in a magazine they don't do what is beautiful just what sells, so I don't care too much if they like my stuff.  I framed and put out 36 pictures for sale retail they were gone in 3 days.  That told me all I needed to know about what touches peoples hearts, and maybe I underpriced them.

The one lens that is a must have is a 50mm. Canon just did a redesign of their 50mm F1.8 lens it is getting very good reviews and they lowered the price.  The increase in sharpness and the Bokeh of the f1.8 will amaze you and open all sorts of photos.  I had a subject literally standing infront of a dumpster and with my 50mm f1.4 you couldn't even tell what it was behind him.  50mm canon f1.8's can be had for 50us or less on craigslist.

Great work thanks for sharing I will put up some of mine when I am new to the site so I still can't post images

Yeah it's fun to use it,can't believe that it still work fine after 12 years. A lot of scratch on it. I do window shopping on lens last week and Sigma lens are really cheaper than other brand like you said.

Right I also think that Shutterstock may be prefer something use for business, I was think to shoot some nice hand in the well set lighting and simply plain background might work for Shutterstock. And the lens Canon 50mm f1.8 is on my list, it's like really cheap and I check at Canon 50mm f1.4 it is like triple price from f1.8. The price is really different in this two. I think I will get 50mm f1.8.

Anyway looking to see you photos sometime ^__^

Look especially for used ones, as old as your cam... as long as they work and were well treated pics should be good.
Since they can only be used with older canon models prices should be affordable.

Yes the f/1.8 is a good hint. It should be fun to use.

I agree the results are great with your rebel and the newer cameras have some advantages but your doing great keeping the iso low to keep the best image.

I tried to think how to do this so I thought I looked through some pics and after 20 resizing attempts to meet the file size requirements of the site I finally got that to work out I hope they are clear enough

I can't get the option to upload the picture but it will let me post a link to my dropbox for the picture but I'm not sure if this violates any of the site rules I'm going to ask and find out if it's OK or not before do it.

Thanks I found it,  The upload option is not available till you have 15 posts and this is totally new to me using computers for personal support.  I am a SR tech support specialist which makes that sort of funny I guess but I want to make sure to respect the rules that the Admins have set in place.  I coded a test post to see if the picture would go and it did but it is the wrong thing to do.  So Respect and Dignity.

On the other side for those of you who can post I have given this thought to this and thought we could choose photo topics and post 3 pictures on that topic explain what inspired them and if you can remember how they were shot.  I looked through some of my photos and divided them into catagories, such as:
Seasons
Color
Lines
Shapes
Light
Perspective (is the subject not the image)
Nature
Technical (pan, blurr, doubles, hdr,)
Night
Sunrise
Portraits (my worst field of endeavor)

I was posting light in the photos the light is the subject and everything else frames the light such as a brilliant beam of sunlight reflecting off a crystal star that was one of the pics I'll put them up when I can.

Samantha few more post to go  :) I think it's a good idea to start a topic to post the photo with the inspiration behind it. That make the beauty of the picture. When you reach 15 post let's start a new topic with that. :)

Samantha,

You can post into the thread, just not an avatar (at the moment). Use the control buttons just over the smileys on the left.  You need to transfer your pics from a third party such as photobucket or imgur etc.

I look forward to seeing them.

I should post some of mine!

I like close up work. I use a Nikon DS3200 with a Nikkor 60mm 1:2.8 and a Hahnel Giga T Pro II wireless remote control.

Now if didn't spend all my free time Admining the site I may get to my hobby!

Susan BTW is a brilliant photographer, I've seen some of her work and it is stunning!

Cindy,

Thanks for clearing that up for me I'll try photobucket, I already resized the images so I don't think I'll have to constrain them.

I'd love see some of your Macro work, I have not done it in a long time but I used to do medium format film with pentax 6X7 and a 90mm with a bellows mostly flowers loved to do orchids.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad304%2Fsamanthacur%2FSP%2FStarWindow_zpsvykec1bc.jpg&hash=b6ba424de8db040f2c5bd642917dac8cb28fac0f)

So here is the crystal star a morning sunbeam came through the tree canopy and the star lit up like it had fallen from the sky and landed in the window. (the was a D300 with 18-200mm lens) it only lasted for a moment but I had my camera in my hand when it happened.  I sort of see finding ourselves as that ray of light that sometimes reveals to us who we are.  I afraid I am an artist in my heart so I always like the heart of the matter not the matter.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad304%2Fsamanthacur%2FSP%2FLighthsPQ_zps576dqlqa.jpg&hash=383387dd6884b5aa47b08c58b9dca037c3d88e24)

This light house sits atop the rocks in Maine you can't see them here but the stars are twinkling in the background, this is my family roots every generation of my family is here from the 1700's even till now.  The light is the anchor that guides me to where I came from.  May we all find that light that guides us.  This was with the D4s and a 50mm F1.4

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad304%2Fsamanthacur%2FSP%2FIndianHorse_zpswvxpgia4.jpg&hash=229ba4c9506987823950a678cb5653e0e9701051)

The light on the Indian gave him this surreal appearance to me majestic alive it looked like he was going to break his concrete mount and ride to be with his people, it was all about the light.  This was a D3s and I think my 16-35mm zoom.  I felt like him but now I have found my people and broken free of that mount.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad304%2Fsamanthacur%2FSP%2FTreesUP_zpscw6eoibi.jpg&hash=c5b0ce9f6fc9520c77b720057b27dae7f8fbeecf)

The lines of the trees draw my eyes up to the light, it looks like a picture of trees but if you put it on the ceiling and look up at it the light is what captures my mind.  This one is more subtle than the others, it was taken in Mt Rainier Nat Park with a D3s I forget which lens.  It is a lot like your glass on the table picture, I wandered most of the day but couldn't find the picture I wanted I lay down on a picnic table to rest and went wow there it is.  Sometimes when you can't find what your looking for it's because we're looking in the wrong direction.  Humans never look up for some silly reason as a photographer and a person I have learned a lot of the best parts of the world are over my head literally.

I hope some come here and find some peace and inspiration in the work we share....the beautiful things

barbie,

Love the tree shot, the lines and symmetry are beautiful these are shots that can look awesome in color or black and white because the lines of the tree are so expressive on their own.

Thank you for sharing it.  I spent two years in Iwakuni Japan and Misawa and the scenery was beautiful I'm going to date myself but at that time I was shooting with a 35mm nikon FM2 I still love those shoots you brought back a good memory for me now I have to go dig up those albums ...Huh that might take a while.

I wholeheartedly agree I really want to some of Susan's pics too now I am very curious.

It's so true we each see with our gifts, I am curious what did you see when you took those images?

Thank you for sharing them,  I love your close up of the bee, it's beautiful.  I live very close to Mickey's house but only went once.  It is a very cool place great memories.

I took no. 1 in Disneyland Paris with my parents, no. 2 at a Stunt Show in France, no. 3 is the famous white cliffs of dover and the bee was in my garden - and I love it too! Hoping to get a macro lens next summer to do some more insect close ups (mainly for bees - they're so fluffy!)

Yes. My kids also like to travel in Japan. My little daughter said to me that she wishes to live in Japan with her mom. I have been to Hokkaido, Sendai, Kyoto, Tokyo, Nagasaki and Okinawa. All trips were for attending a conference, but I could have at least 1 extra day to look around.

Yes. In those old times, I also took photos with cheap analogue cameras. I lost a lot of old photos that were taken in my childhood. Still some survived. Digital cameras are too much convenient. It was certainly a revolution in human history.

Cindy,

I have never even seen a Eucalyptus Gum Nut really nice macro work you nailed that shot.
Phylidonyris novaehollandiae, I love them, I lived in was in California for and the first time I saw them I thought someone had hung a bunch of Bottle brushes off a tree, so I always called them bottle brush trees,  How much did you pay that bird to sit there long enough to get that shot...that truly is fantastic.  I tried very hard to get a close up of a humming bird when I was in CA but no joy there.

Thanks for sharing some of the beautiful things in your life.

Thanks Samantha.

The Gum nut was the size of my finger nail, buried in a tree. I set up and just waited until the wind died down and nailed it first shot. Fluke!

The Honey Eater was in a bottle brush in my home, I took 300 shots and got 4 good ones. The other three are on display in a gallery at the moment.

Leaf Work is a project I have to see the effect of photoshopping an original.

I'm now also placing photos onto canvas and painting them into a scene, then re photographing and photoshopping to make a combination of film effect and texture - still playing with that.

Beautiful picture.

If someone plans to have them made more easy, there is a way to it:
most cams have plugs for external control.
Its possible to connect this with a motion sensor. The cam can be set to make a few pics in rapid succession.
Its really just a cable, a few connections and  a plug.

Similarly lightnings are photographed, with a light sensor.
It can result in really stunning pics.

QuoteLeaf Work is a project I have to see the effect of photoshopping an original.

I'm now also placing photos onto canvas and painting them into a scene, then re photographing and photoshopping to make a combination of film effect and texture - still playing with that.

I'm interested in changing texture and depth.

Cindy,

It's interesting how painting was imitating photography in the middle ages and later back in the 90s with digital photography and canvas printing photography began imitating painting.  Now the two are becoming fused together into another unique art form.
At an art college class one of the techniques in painting class was to mix the paint with a thickening base and then use various knives, brushes, sticks or whatever gave you the texture you wanted the work look very three dimensional when done.

You could almost repeat the veins in the red leaf to extend out into the canvas ....I think you have a great idea there
another thing that picture brought to mind was it might really pop printed on metal paper the red would shimmer could be cool.

I did some shots that were all about color and texture here's a couple

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad304%2Fsamanthacur%2FColor%2FFoliage%2520tree_zpsgdccy7g5.jpg&hash=ecd5201fbce4ee3bc2d151b32d865e3d22c10e97)

All the different colors and textures caught my eye, it was also breakfast one morning so I suppose sometimes breakfast can be art to and beautiful.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi946.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad304%2Fsamanthacur%2FColor%2FTexture%2520Flowers_zpsxm53uhc5.jpg&hash=89c04057a4c8255abc6fc0cc180548e8421c055b)

I have a pic I wanted comment on but it is defeating photo bucket. I have three laser beams (different wavelengths) being focussed through three lenses until they become unified.

Sadly it is defeating the system

Samantha, I'm interested about printing on metallic paper. How do I do that?

Thanks when nature paints the canvas even I couldn't have messed that shot up
That bird really loves that tree! Bottle brush trees always make me smile they're like summers Christmas trees.

I'm very interested to see your laser pic I've never done anything like that...sounds very cool. I resized my photos in photo bucket to 720x480 sRGB color that made file size around 100k

You can print metallic paper in any good photo printer, the hard part is it can't really be displayed in a glass frame the glass ruins the effect,  which means that you have to mount it.  I am very bad at dry mounting so I pay the 10-12$ to have it done

Nationalphotolabs and tons of others online do metallic printer and also will dry mount it for you the price it very reasonable the red leaf and the gum nut shot would look great on metal,  the tree and bird shot may not complex compositions can start to look weird on metal.  Single subject or things that are metal like cars airplanes all look awesome on metal HDR does also,  the office near me has a 24x36 of a Bengal tiger's head on metal I love the work he looks like he's going to come off the wall.

Nice Matt, what lens are you using?

If you can backlight the spider web.

A great effect for a spider web is wait until it is dark and take the pic with a wine glass in front. The glass throws the light from the flash all over the place, use the glass as a lens. Not for the spider or you to drink!

18-55mm lens on Canon EOS 1100d (the lens that came with it)

Also I like that idea! Might try that some day :) I'm going to buy a mini softbox and a 430 ex 1 flash - not sure if that'd mess the glass trick but will try ^_^

Well Matt-even if it sounds far fetched-
you might try to get your hands on a EOS Rebel like Naeree... its a very good cam to try out things...
there should still be some in good conditions, maybe even coming with a good lens...
you can attach lenses for the fraction of a price which do not work with newer cams... really good glasses...
the sensor and software of this cam give really lively images.
Some of the newer ones have a "frozen" or digital feel...
if you look for it you might see that, too... (no comparison with your cam meant, just in general)
the atmosphere of a photo with the Eos rebel seems to be much more easy to access...

and tbh pixels are imo for sales personnel... you can zoom in or out, and too many pixels can not even be displayed.

The guy I got the idea from is a pro, and his picture is copyright so I can't post it (and he wants $8000 for it). But the concept was to throw light at different angles and experiment., so crystal or glass are worth trying. In the picture he has it was a normal glass with red wine in it, balanced on my friends stomach in front of the web

Gorgeous pics Laura. I particularly like the middle and bottom ones. Very moody and interesting!

I love mist pics, and the rain over the tree and the setting is wonderful.

I just took this. I got home and my vase of Borronia had a flower dangling by a tiny spider web.

I quickly (!!!!!!) got my macro attached. I used the flash to get colour into it.

By the time I took the pic the flower was gone. So I call it Death Fall.

Cindy, Thanks!

My friends have a nice underwater light. In addition, the water quality was excellent on the day.

Just 1 hour ago, I went to the beach to bath in the sea water to kill some unidentified mycete or fungus in my buttocks.
Lights are also used to attract fishes/squids in those fishing vessels.

Laura, love the center shot the mist hanging in the air.  I tried for a shot like that for a while but the temp and humidity is only good for that in October so hard to get here, very nice work.

Cindy,  I don't think I could do the wine glass the way your friend did, all my friends would start laughing or move and there'd be a lot of spilled wine and broken glass.

Barbie, Really great underwater soooo clear awesome...

Alas the area I like in isn't easy to find beauty. We have crows and pigeons, sometime you might see a dove but that's pretty rare. My city is also pretty poor and has been rnaked the worst city to live in in the UK :P I hath been presented with a challenge.

If I had the time I'd travel to get shots, although tomorrow I'm being paid to photograph a dog's tea party at a cafe in a nearby town - I'm sure they'll be cheerful! ^_^

Matt, love that orange spider great contrast on the black pole.
A Dog tea party ok what is that?  I guess if it's a paying gig it doesn't matter  :)

Barbie, I have gotten most of my wildlife shots by finding their trails to water and waiting across the water.  If you're on the other side of the pond stream or river they don't seem to spook and run.  That's how I was able to get the doe shot she just looked up at me and went back to eating grass under the snow.  Deer, and elk are usually crepuscular that is they will go to drink at sunrise and twilight.  Sometimes they will go in the middle of the day if they're looking for food but most often not.

Another photographer and I were talking at a gig and the subject of what is beautiful came up.  When your taking pictures someone's paying you to take but really not what you're interested in these topics come up.  So what is beautiful can be found in the strangest places.  Here is one example.
I was in the downtown area of the city feeding the homeless a man was sitting on the ground in filthy clothes head hanging down...this lost soul, but there is this teenage girl who came with a group to serve bending over and handing this broken soul a plate of food and a cup of juice.  The image of that girl helping that man is one of the most beautiful things I ever photographed. To me it's a perfect image of what love is.  Out of respect for the man I'm not going to post it.
Two people holding hands......so many things.....

Yes. Samatha,

I remember a similar photo a few years ago. Probably, as I remember, a policeman is giving some food to a man in the street.

As I am not a professional photographer, I do not care about the focus or the topic of a photo.

Interestingly, 2 days ago in the beach, a strange photographer approached me and tried to ask me of something. He carried a big camera, but I did not reply to him, just returning to the water. It is very rare that a man approaches a woman in bikini here. Fortunately I have a few friends who are professional photographers, but their arenas are landscape photos or others, not good at taking photos of people or me. Still their portrait snap photos are far better than me or other amateur photographers.

Yesterday night, I failed to take photos of fireflies. There were too few fireflies, and it was very tricky to catch within the lense of camera. And people there did not let me turn on any kind of light, including the smartphone screen, fearing all fireflies will run away. Probably next summer (July or August), I may be able to take photos of them. Fortunately, my little daughter could see fireflies for the first time after birth.

I'll bet that was magical sharing the fire flies with your daughter. I do not think many people can get a good picture of fire flies, I have some idea's on how to set up for the shot let me know if your going to try again and I'll see if I can help give you the correct settings for your camera type and lens.
We don't have fire flies where I live, we had them where I grew up as children we would catch 20 or 30 and put them in a glass jar with holes in the lid and put them in our room at night for a few hours then we would let them go free again.
They are incredible to watch.

You could try to have your lens focused on something in a certain distance... half pressing the shutter...
then aperture and distance are fixed if its set that way in the software of the cam...
and press the shutter when one of them is in about the same distance as the object...

making a few photos that way...
and maybe a digital photo program can help with shortcomings... like brightness, or sharpness...

It is the same here. When I was child, I could see fireflies everywhere, but nowadays only in small pristine areas where there has been virtually no development. Now, being able to see fireflies is a kind of bless, as it represents higher air quality and unpolluted environment.

Naeree,

Wonderful pics. I love the shrine, you caught the spiritual feel so well.

The light globe is a classic - Matt take heart, there are incredible images to catch everywhere, we just have to keep our eyes open!

Barbie, I think that is a Leaf Insect.

Oh and I love Bangkok and the lovely people there, I was in Bangkok for the WPATH conference a few years back. It has a special place in my heart.

I guess it is a kind of exotic species, probably from China by global warming.

A few years ago, I had a chance to visit Bangkok, but I gave it up because of too tight schedules of travel abroad. Probably I will visit there soon!

No it may be impressive but it isn't good. The thing I have about macro lenses is focus, it is extremely hard. Most of that pic is not in the focus i want - yes I want some blur, but I feel I have way too much blur. I like the texture but that is post photo manipulation.

I would like critique and advice.

What is bad about the pic and what may be good? I'm a big girl and I can take criticism.

Slaughter the pic!

Teach the photographer!

Sorry for the dumb tech question here, but how do you go about inserting images as you are? Do you put a link with the image location between the HTML "img" things? Or what?

Use []'s instead of ()'s but:

For example,

BTW, Cindy, your blurred photo look like a painting. Yes, sometimes a tripod is unavailable, making it difficult to focus in macro mode.

Thanks!

I don't consider myself particularly talented or technically skilled with photography, but I do really enjoy it. Self-portraits were a really big part of how I took ownership of and celebrated my new image when I transitioned, and ever since, I'll occasionally get an idea for a series and run with it.

Like, I decided to do a shoot juxtaposing a nice fancy gown I found at a thrift store (very lucky find :) ) with an abandoned coal plant that I'd explored a few months before. Here's a few shots from that:

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FASC00189_zpsonrihrav.jpg&hash=dc0a7d9518350b5de87bd1814f3d5460dad87a6d)  (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FASC00245_zpsanmb55yr.jpg&hash=443c3e4526b75a43ff4c15d34a306a4e21e160ba)  (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FASC00156_zpswyyyj5fy.jpg&hash=cb18d2b0a888b4cb72e154998e5b4974bdd27bd3)

Another idea I had once was to do a shoot with my motorcycle that resembled the way people often get pictures taken with their horses, nuzzling up to them and so forth. Here's a few of those:

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FDSCF4594cropped_zpsogawbirk.jpg&hash=c23e17c8d1a5862055434a49e475f6783b6cc819)  (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FDSCF4517_zpsgwu9jqys.jpg&hash=564ed55e8a50a8a5a8149c98b63a1d81b798da81)  (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FDSCF4577_zpskd6i150k.jpg&hash=bd0d690188dfe5a5d5d5e69de4b8a47e52bbb41d)

And more recently, I got really into a book-length poem by Mark Z. Danielewski called Only Revolutions, which is all about a long road trip taken by two teenagers with lots of neat lines about nature and landscapes and travel and things, and so I decided to take some shots in different areas and print lines of his poetry on the images and then add some borders and play with the colors and lighting a little. Thank you :) That was a really fun day. I was especially proud that I managed to traipse around an abandoned factory for hours wearing a fancy gown and managed to not dirty or damage the gown at all. That took effort and a lot of walking like this, lol:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FDSC00170_zpsigo3ecut.jpg&hash=e47704df678e2b43c8feecbf16066332fa79ee98)

And a lot of hopping from large object to large object to stand up out of the debris so I could let the dress fall without the bottom hem dragging in junk, like this:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi556.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fss1%2Festropunk%2FDSC00236_zpsbno20u0k.jpg&hash=54d3f81948603dc4f9443888ead32b4648f16877)

Thank you :) That was a really fun day. I was especially proud that I managed to traipse around an abandoned factory for hours wearing a fancy gown and managed to not dirty or damage the gown at all. That took effort and a lot of walking like this, lol:

And a lot of hopping from large object to large object to stand up out of the debris so I could let the dress fall without the bottom hem dragging in junk, like this:

But it worked! lol

Did you do the shoot and dress up all by yourself?

I shoot portrait sometime too, I will be great to shoot the model that willing to wear a fancy gown and pose in this kind of location.

I live in an island, and there are also several smaller islands.

One is literally called 'tiger island'. And it is a female, as it has a baby tiger.

Just snapshots on the boat.

There are two eyes, an anus, a belly button, two nostrils, and etc.

Behind me is the baby island.

Yes. We have both seas and mountains. There are many parks and museums here. Today I visited a 'stone park' near my home with my wife.

I take an assistant with me to hold the camera. I find angles and take care of settings, tell them how to position, etc., then I position myself into the shot. This time, it was my sister.

And Barbie, your stuff is fabulous.

Yes. Nice photos!

I used to rear cats when I was kid and teenager, but I had to bury more than 5 cats thereafter. For the first cat I buried, I cried a lot. Nowadays I do not rear any pet, but my little daughter is eager to have one at home, but apartments do not allow it. I am still afraid of rearing any pet.

Don't be... think of the nice times they had with you.
Its positive for them... you look after them and they can have a good time.

They simply have a different time span.
And every one of them is different... they all have kind of different personlities so every one of them is like a new character...

It's all in the angles ;)

Reminds me of my graduation from basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo in 1985.  I was the Platoon Guide and I had just got my guys outside to formation so that we could march to the graduation.  Just as we were about to head out a pigeon flew over the top of me and left me a present right on the shoulder of my Class A's.  I had to run back inside and had about 30 seconds to clean up.

Ever since then I try to keep a pretty close watch on them there flying birds. ;)

I had my own darkroom since 1968. The enlarger and the wet stuff has been replaced with my old desktop attached to a photo scanner. I do run the gamut of photography from scenic, panoramas, people to astrophotos. Here's a Grand Canyon.

I really don't know how to add pictures here.   I tried dragging a picture and copy and pasting and they did not work.   Would someone tell me how to put images on this page.

You need to use an image hosting site, they're free and easy to set up. I use photobucket, they give you a link to your pictures which already has the image tags attached. (or you can get a set of them by clicking the tiny Mona Lisa button and inserting your link in between them. The code should look like this, I added the asterisks to make it non-functional.

[IMG***]http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y537/DevlynMarie/20150215_135502_zpse4ee09a4.jpg[/img]

Take out the asterisks and it displays like this. Isn't he gorgeous?  :)

If you can't get it figured out, message me. You can also post pictures in our Gallery without the hosting site, you can even add pictures there straight off your phone.

Hi Michelle,

I use Photobucket. You can open a free account with them. Some advice. Tick the boxes to make your account private, so only you can see it. You select from your photos which you want to download to photobucket. It the transfers them.

To post select your photo and next to it will be a series of boxes, select copy image (I think it is the last box). Go to your account and the thread and just paste into the thread. Your pic is then then there.

You can always delete your pics, either by deleting the image in the thread, or removing it from Photobucket.

When you save pics into any third party software the information on that pic, time place etc transfers with it. You can strip that out to maintain privacy. I don't bother but some people feel it intrudes upon their privacy.

Love to see your pics!!!

Lovely; damn I miss my dogs so much. Bonnie was a long hair collie who was mistress of the sofa. I sat on the floor ::)

I rescued her from an abusive family, she was terrified and so nervous. But it didn't take long for her to realise she was safe. Then she took over!

Lovely contrast. The tree being very skeletal and your tall stature sets it off. It is a bit dark to see the effect of your skirt and the flower in your hair on the overall pic. But lovely idea.

Extremely!

I have bought myself a programable remote so I can try and photograph the electric storms that roll in when the cool changes come in. But at the moment is is too hot and the UV too high to go out safely for any length of time.

If you think so, then you should be a talented photographer, too.
I do not have any knowledge to evaluate the talent of a photographer, but I heard that a professional can evaluate the professionals.

Yes. He is a professional photographer, usually taking landscape photos, and No. 1 in aerial photography here in my country.

I have loved photography since high school but did not have the time to pursue it much afterwards. Lately I have been involved with digital photography. portraits mostly. See my signature message below. With the software I have I can adjust the picture from true life to flawless.  But it does not work on everyone. Of those that MTF that have asked "Do I Pass" by programmatically reconfiguring the picture they submit. Ninety Percent of the pictures  where the ladies  ask "do I pass? You also use Photoshop for digital photography?

My friend recommended me to learn Photoshop, but I am not good at it.

You may post a few photos in this thread.

It's not as easy as it looks. It took me like a year of how-to books and practice to get up to speed on Photoshop back in the 90s. There are lots of non-intuitive hidden obstacles in PS, but once you learn it it's very useful. A lot of photographers these days prefer Adobe Lightroom, which is a bit easier to use. I also use Gimp, which is free Photoshop sorta clone, but it's no easier to learn and is missing some of the best PS features. For photo retouch beginners, I usually recommend Paint.NET, a free Windows program that works like a very early version of Photoshop-- thus is much easier to use. It's features are limited, but I find it good for many quick photo adjustments.

Lyric, Yes. I have used Paint.NET for simple edition of photo, which is great.

Today morning we went out to take photos of sunrise, but it was too cloudy.
Anyway my friend took several photos for me.

It is a native species here, and its scientific name is Dendranthema coreanum. In the mainland, the similar flowers are Chrysanthemum zawadskii subsp. latilobum (Maxim.) Kitag.
Yes. All of them look like daisy.

The daisy in your photo looks having more petals than the Chrysanthemum here.

Thank you!

I use a Nikon D3200 DSLR body and a variety of lenses. I recently invested in a Sigma 105mm f2.8 DG Macro which I am really enjoying trying to learn to use. I took the Monstera picture with it.

I'm very much a beginner and I also use photography as therapy. In my case I use it for a bit of pain management. I'm a bit bent, stiff and twisted from the side effects of therapy so I need motivation to get out and about and be active and I find photography good for that.

How about posting a few of your pics? Don't worry about standards, if we did I would never post. It is the joy of sharing and getting ideas from each other about topic etc. Most phones have very good cameras and that is plenty to use for this thread. I think Barbie uses her phone and her pics are great!

I like how you captured the day so well, I get a sense of it being a beautiful day...with a beautiful lady enjoying it  :)

Lovely to see some nice pics.

I'm searching the water in Devlyn's pics for tea leaves! (I'm not sure who will come to the party on that.)

Emilia, Happy Birthday!!  I've only just started taking pics as a hobby and I am doing some courses  on-line that are interesting for me. Let me know what sort of camera you have and if you are interested in the links. I like the first pic most of all maybe the depth of field could have included the details of the ball a little more?

Barbie, beautiful pic, I love the balance of the field of flowers and the sweeping clouds and the hat on the gorgeous woman of course!

I haven't checked lately, perhaps Australia has drifted close enough to Boston that you can just scoop up a nice cup of our famous saltwater tea?

Hugs, Devlyn

Thanks, Elizabeth, Cindy. Actually it was my friend who took that photo. He is a professional photographer.

I just once visited Boston about 15 years ago during winter. People there were very kind and polite.

Yes. I have read some books on the history of colonial America including tea and cod fish, especially in New England. Particularly, "Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World" https://www.amazon.com/Cod-Biography-Fish-Changed-World/dp/0140275010

Hope to visit again, especially Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Gloucester.

That picture is soooo cool.  I watched something about this type of cloud burst on one of the cable channels, totally trippy.
