Title: Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Post by: DawnOday on May 17, 2018, 05:21:38 PM
Mine is the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Banff Alberta. Wow. what a drive. Athabasca Falls, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, Saskatchewan River, Teardrop Falls, Big Bend. Parker Ridge, Columbia Icefield, Glacier Skywalk, Sunwapta Falls, Lake Louise, Lake Moraine. If there is a heaven on earth this is it.

We used to go to Vegas all the time. Now we go to Nicholson British Columbia just south of Golden's and camp in the mountains. That or further west to the Shuswap Lakes.

Another great spot is Kananiskis west of Calgary where the Winter Olympics were held. A beautiful place to play a round or ten of golf.

My boss went to NZ to ski one summer. Have seen a few traveloges on TV as well as Lord of the Rings. I would like the white water rafting. It does look like a wonderland.

I may end up doing that as returning to Banff is on my bucket list. The two best weeks ever. Even went to Edmonton. That was a waste and way too far. The people are so nice. When I went to pick up the RV in Merritt the guy there asked me to move up there. Unfortunately I only had thirty years experience but no degree. Only three years at the University of California Dominguez Hills.

Maine...Ticks ticks and more ticks.

Where my property is, I don't recall ticks. Mosquitos, yes, especially if it's a wet summer, black flies in june. Maine is two states. Down by the coast, it's a new england kind of place where everyone sounds Boston like. Where my property is, it's Quebecois as it's 15 miles from the Quebec border. Colder up that way and fewer people, different accent, different culture. At least when I went up there years ago. I am from Long Island and there are plenty ticks there. I've even had the lyme vaccine before it was pulled off the market.

Gertrude. Sorry about that. I've never been north of Boston. I just read an article that was complaining about ticks in Maine.  https://somaine.mosquitosquad.com/blogs/2018/3/13/2018-maine-tick-outlook/  Better to remain silent and thought a fool... I like eating shoe leather.

The beach!  Any beach with soft sand, cool and soothing water, and warm sunshine.  For me, sitting on the beach and watching and listening to the waves, as well as wading in the water and greeting the sea waters is like meditation on steroids.  I don't go nearly as often as I would like to, but I think that just makes the times I do go that much more special.

Danielle  I agree. Having grown up in SOCAL and having access to a whole coastline from San Diego to Santa Barbara it was like living in a wonderworld. We used to bodysurf at Huntington, hit the bars at Belmont Shore, study tide pools in Laguna Beach and even take a naked stroll down Blacks Beach. Now I have access to the Oregon and Washington coastlines which are colder and rainy but that just makes them beautiful in a different way. While I can't play a guitar I have friends that do and one of the best things is building a fire on the beach and gathering around for a singalong. Taking in the smells and the sounds, bongo's, radios turned to KRLA or KHJ KMET
When I think about it, I really have had a blessed life. Aside from always feeling I was someone else and now I have realized my dream of being able to be me.

The Netherlands. This year's vacation in May was arranged by my oldest daughter, who found and got the bungalows reserved. We all paid our share and got our tickets.

Every year I go to the Netherlands since that's my home country to visit mom and family. However this year was the first time the entire family went, except for my youngest grand daughter who was to young to fly.

The last 2 years we have been in a campground in the forest away from the big cities, but next time will probably be a hotel in or near Amsterdam. We have just spend to much money on train and taxi fare, that it will make up for the added hotel cost.

I would love to go back to the Netherlands.  I once went to Den Helder to fly out by helicopter to work on a ship in the North Sea.  That was my first time in Europe.  I didn't see much of the Netherlands, since I was there for work and at sea, but what little time I got to spend on land among the people was a real blessing.  I was amazed by the architecture and culture.  There is so much history there that I want to explore.  I want to go back.

As an American I rarely leave the States and have only do so on just a few occasions in my life.  There is so much to see around the world, and there really is beauty if we only open our eyes and look.

I am almost in the same position. I always wanted to travel from east to west coast USA, while I was living in the Netherlands. I married my wife and I am in the USA since 1988 and haven't yet seen much, other then visiting family in Buffalo NY and living in Northern VA, RVA etc. Work is keeping me from doing this. :) I guess I have to wait till I retire.

My last real vacation was 8 months ago in January.  We several of my cis-gal pals I went to Australia for a little over a week, and then a 15 day cruise around New Zealand and stopped at many ports and small towns.  It was a wonderful trip and so many things to see and to experience... including driving on the wrong side of the road in a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.......   sounds dangerous to me!!!  But I kept focused and didn't wreck the rental car.

I also love staying in the USA and Canada, I have been to every USA state and every Canadian province many times, sometimes on business and sometimes on pleasure trips....   since I am a Anne of Green Gables fan one of my favorite places in Canada was Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown.

I love taking road trips and there is so very much to see by traveling on the highways and back roads in my corner of the world.

Next vacation plan is to go through the Panama Canal on a cruise with some of my gym girl group friends... which will certainly include my Suitor #4  I would think..... :-* :icon_chick:

Belize......before the rain sets in (early May) before the bugs hatch.
Evidence of Mayan history abounds throughout the country!
Beaches, warm clear water, some of the best diving in the world, the Blue Hole, the second largest barrier reef in the world!
The predominant language is English , they take US currency.
Their beer is good..."You better Belize it"!

Arizona is a tradeoff. Visit now and while its 110 degrees, there is no crowd. Visit in January and while the day time temperature is around 70 degrees, you have the car races, golf, car auctions along with many snow birds. If your coming in January, reserve your room now and get ready for sticker shock.

Gotta be mountains in the deal.
Weekends in the Cascades, full week trips to the Sierra.
Definitely "off trail" as we like to leave our clothes in our pack.

Dana.. Luckily I have relatives in Scottsdale and Bullhead City so all I really need is a relative in Flagstaff. I love exploringing the Walnut Canyon site and HWY 89A is one of the most scenic highways in the country. The starkness of the desert is at once beautiful and when you have a flat tire and no replacement in the middle and it's over 100 degress and the buzzards are circling...

Jin  I love the Trumble lake area of the Sierra. We used to go to Bishop for the Rodeo. On the western side the Sonora area is one of our favorites.

Lexi... I don't like sweating in 80 degree heat. I thought two showers a day were too many until I went there and needed one hourly. I stick with Disneyland in Anaheim. Now, I've been there at least fifty times. It used to be a lot cheaper when I was a kid.

Jessica. Belize sounds very interesting.

Colorado Springs is the best place where I've had a vacation. I rank it above Chicago and Las Vegas.

I remember when I was at Pikes Peak's summit and jumped the guard rails. I was about 5 foot from the edge of the mountain and I will remember the view for the rest of my life. It was amazing.

After decades of travelling to the US - 34 states including Hawaii twice...I've not been to the US in a decade.

We just came back four days ago from two weeks in Spain. It was awesome. How can you not like Spain - glorious museums and art galleries, architecture, history, food, wine, the people...and it's safe.

We already planning our 2019 trip...most likely Scandinavia and Denmark.

Ummmm... staying at home and going nowhere in particular.

One of my most relaxing vacations has been travelling a 30 minutes drive, (still in the same city!) to a caravan park with cabins. But really I don't even need to go that far. If it is a vacation from work, the living room and back yard is enough for me.

I don't like travelling much and when it is January in Sydney and everyone seems to be away on holidays it is my favourite time to be at home.

As for me, I adore Bermuda and Grand Cayman. It's close enough to me that I can enjoy a short flight and still have beautiful beaches, wonderful people, lots of activities, and great sightseeing.. If to talk about faraway destination - then I choose Rome. I just love the city. The history, the culture, the people, the food, the atmosphere, sitting in piazzas drinking coffee or wine... Planning my solo trip to Rome this June, read travel forums (https://travelsites.com/travel-forums/) to find out hidden gems (I mean places:)

I agree with Kylo ! it's like on my bucket list to visit Switzerland.

I agree with Dawn above that Canadian Rockies are stunning, we have friends in Edmonton.

One of my favorite vacation spots is right in our own back yard (we have so much here !!)

Marrowstone Island - Puget sound

I live in Monument, just North of Colorado Springs. Been here over 13 years and still have not made it to Pikes Peak!

My favorite place to visit is Moab, UT. It is close to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, and only a few hours away from Monument Valley. It is scorching hot in the Summer, but Spring and Fall are awesome.
